I checked one of tasks on Scoopshot few days ago - "Was your baby born yesterday, just like the Royal Baby Boy? Please record a short VIDEO clip of your newborn and tell us a bit about him or her - name, birth place and date, height and weight and, perhaps, a few details about the birth"
There was lot of PHOTOS - full page of babies and children - 1, 3, 5, 10, 12 years old, cats, dogs, parrots. I didn't check all photos but at first sight I haven't seen ANY VIDEO with newborn baby as described in brief.
Being client I doubt I would come back to Scoopshot again.
Crowdsourcing is basically good idea but let's face it - crowd includes many idiots.
It is not crowdsourcing, but trollsourcing :D and we all know, how many of them are on the net :D

The technology is moving fast, and don't get me wrong, I love technology and the progress, but the mobile talks just remind me those fake Nokia ads :D

Yuri,

It is a very confident blog, maybe too confident (being diplomatic). I have no axe to grind with you and I am not jealous of your success as stock is a hobby for me. You earned your success.

I don't see mobiles being the future as you do. Quality is not good enough. There is money to be made if you are in the right place at the right time like citizen journalism.

My experience is when a leader in a field leaves that someone fills the gaps. Everyone is replaceable. The world moves on and adapts.

If you can take loyal customers with you and earn more money when the stock industry appears to be racing to the bottom, then good luck to you.

I have some prototypes of Nokia phones that we are testing in the excess of 40+ mpixel. Even if downsized to 46mb uncompressed tif (8bit, or 16mpixel) they produce better quality than any DSLR. Hardly any fringing. Trust me. Now if you combine that info with the huge amount of apps available to further enhance your images, we are looking at a real game changer.

Well one thing to really consider, is where the business is moving overall. Not sure how in your country, but in ours we receive tons of flyers every day. All are in that box for old paper in front of the house. No one is reading it anymore. No one (from the young population) needs a newspaper/magazines at all. If you are looking for sale/news/prizes/magazines/pictures/photos/designs and whatever else - you look at internet via smartphone/tablet/your pc. What resolution is needed ? Very small for an add.
So yes, the projects for mobile phones will have future just because of this. But that doesn't mean, that dslr content will be obsolete. Not yet.

Well I saw stocks rise and fall, lets wait for Shutterstock To Announce Second Quarter 2013 Earnings Release on August 7, 2013.

And I dont think it will be a disaster as they are the only site for me that is selling images on daily basis even with small portfolio.

131
Ah ye that picture. The first one could be a problem. The rest is regular official league match. So it should not be a problem. Same as athlete wearing nike t-shirt.
Anyway the point was if it is sellable when it is not nfl on SS.

132
The only thing maybe , email agreement from the trainer or manager of the team. Thats all you need to shoot the match.

133
I have for some, as it was 1st league.

But few matches were in 2nd league and there are no credentials at all, no media accreditation. You just come and shoot :)

Shutterstock.com / Should I upload these editorial to SS?
« on: July 22, 2013, 08:25 »
Hi,

I was just wondering, if I should upload my editorial images from american football to SS. Im not sure if they will sell at all. I have few of them in local agency already. You can check them here : http://www.petrtoman.com/

The thing is, it is league in Czech Republic, and it was already somehow covered in media. Do you think it has potential for selling on SS?

Thanks

Quite motivating

This figure also shows that discipline and patience is necessary to have the success Stock Photography.

Have to work on this :)

I got similar problem, I changed memory settings, ftp upload works, shows file for processing, but no preview and after processing no image in draft. File is standard sRGB 11MB jpg. Not sure where the problem could be.
After I hit process image, only header appears  : Process Images. and the page is blank.

Update : Oh I take it back, now it works for sRGB, seems not working for AdobeRGB

Pond5 / Re: Pond5: What should we improve?
« on: July 19, 2013, 02:41 »
Not sure if it is bug on my side, but in the new layout, I cannot delete photos in upload section in Chrome. The link under the cogwheel is pointing out to "https://www.pond5.com/index.php?page=my_uploads#" instead of the delete page.

So the page just refreshed and nothing happens .. annoying. In old layout it works fine.

i have 24-105 f4 and love it. ye you miss sometimes 2.8 but with good camera like 5d3 you will be fine.

142
The local agency is a good idea. I also register with one of the biggest in Czech Rep. They still sell the smallest image for $25 and you get 50%. But it is mainly about editorial images. But worth trying.

SS the only one that sales for me. IS, DP, FT - 0

How is the Stocksy doin? Never saw sales numbers. I still hope they do well :)

144
Did you guys try to sell elswhere as RF and on alamy the same stuff as RM?

Any luck to sell stock image available on SS for $0,25 on Alamy RM for much more?

Maybe if you get into RM.
RF you can sell for less than on iS (or a lot more; deals are cut same as Alamy)

in a thread that seems to be problematic (technically) (below)

There are still some old style RM agencies which may still bring in good money for specialist photos. Normally they are very picky, you have to provide either different subject matter or a distinctly different style, you have to provide a lot of unique photos to start with (that you don't have anywhere else), often e.g. 200, and you often have to agree to supply them with 'so many' more unique images in a particular timespace. Some of these may not even consider you if they find you're selling even other pics on Micros.
You should relatively easily be able to find the agencies supplying your specialty.

Thanks a lot for these hints. I really appreciate it. I will try to gather such collection and lets see. :)

Newbie Discussion / Where do you sell photos for big money?
« on: June 06, 2013, 15:43 »
I do upload photos to different stock agency, but sometimes some photos are really exceptional, and I dont want to sell them for $0,35.

Any advice where you put really great pictures or pictures that actually cost more money for production.

Maybe RM Alamy ?

Thanks for any advice

I think real identity could bring less negativity. And quoting Larry: "Being negative is not how we make progress."

Even if we don't like some steps from agencies, we don't have to go throwing crap around.

If agency is doing steps against anyone based posts on public forum, are they worth our time ?

It could bring some more light into the dark sides of forum :)

So why not I'm in ;)

ps. but take my post with a pinch of salt, as i'm so small in MS business, that I shouldn't even post here haha :D

I have 8 gb ram 1116

Anyway I suggest you install it on the second drive. It is more probable that the system one can crash, so it is more safe. But test it for yourself. Create catalog on main and on the other, import photos and see if there is any difference. :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: death of istock postponed?
« on: April 15, 2013, 05:00 »
I'm more frustrated with the lack of action on site issues and the overall lack of transparency. The heavily moderated forums is just annoying and has only brought their contributors here to discuss the issues.

Dont invest your time and money to area that gets you frustrated and annoyed. If you feed bad feelings, they will only grow. Feed good ones, and you will be happy and rich.

150
Thanks. Seems like a lot of work but I will import images in the folders they are in for now. I don't have an SSD disk, just a 1TB storage and a 500 GB system disk. Would you install LR on the System disk ?

If the system disk is the same as your swap (as usual), I would rather install it on second drive.

Some things in LR are still quite time consuming, if you have enough RAM, like 8gb or 16gb, it should be almost the same. But check which one of them is faster (RPM).
