It depends on everyone style, I have totally different. I had also folders organized by names, but it got messy with bigger ammount of images. If you have pictures organized in folders already, just import these folders to LR as they are. And see how it will work for you.

I will put here my way for inspiration.

I keep all files, even bad ones on NAS (external storage) sorted by years and dates ("2013/2013_01_01"). Then I copy to LR the new ones from the last shoot e.g., and delete bad ones. (I got instantly 2 copies, good as backup)

LR is just a database, so I try to keep it smaller, so it operates faster, and I put LR (both program and catalog) always on SSD disk.
In LR I have the same folders by date, and if I need, I create collections upon these folders.

Maybe not ideal, but I like that :)

My workflow after the shooting:
1. run Canon EOS automatic import to NAS
2. Open LR, import the selected folder
3. Go through the shoot, and delete bad ones from catalog and local disk
4. If needed I create collection upon these folders

Hope it helps.

If you sent link to your portfolio, and have google analytics on, just checked them. I saw a visit from BC, CA on Monday. But since then no new mail, no response. But my portf is kinda basic, I dont think I will get in. Have to work on my techniques.  :)

Do you use the 70-200 for outdoor shoots? (I find too long the closest focusing distance)
I use it outdoor, but also in studio, but as you said, the focusing distance is huge. I have smaller flat, so when I shoot with that in kitchen it is almost impossible :D I have in my scope that 100 macro L lense, and actually I can buy it for the money I save on the 24-105 :) cause as a kit lense to the 5D it is very good value for the money.

Anyway, thanks a lot guys. The order was sent :D

For the MkII to be worth twice as much it would need to be able to make the tea and clean up after the shoot too.

Haha  ;D love the comment, yea it is my part time job actually, but not the main source of income. So I guess you are right.  I saw also the old one is selling now for 1k$. This could be also option in the future.

after 70-80mm (until 105), the image quality isn't good.

Yeah this is what I thought, for these cases use the 70-200, which is great.

Thanks for comments.

Haven't shot much low light as I've mostly done studio stuff since getting the new rig, but in testing, it seems to do fine.

Thanks for info.

I went with the 24-105 and love it. OTH, I have the 70-200 f4. If you are used to the 2.8 on the 70-200 and use the extra stop, you should probably go ahead and spring for the 24-70. I would have had to wait another month to budget the 2.8, plus I wanted the extra reach.

I've done a few videos but don't have the experience yet to give advice on that part.

Thank you, well im used to that 2.8, but if i go for portraiture, i can go with the 70-200. For some super bokeh I can use 50/1.4 , so Im somehow convincing my self that f4 will be fine. Im glad I hear you love that 24-105, what I heard all videograhpers love this one. Some people are somehow sayin that with slightly bad light the 24-105 has focusing speed problems. Any notice from your one?

Easy question hard decision to make. :/

Im gonna buy this week (as I have holiday discount) 5D mark III, but it is really hard for me to choose between these two lenses.

The thing is, I have money for both options, but with the new 24-70II im reaching the budget limit (camera, second flash, lens, grip). With which I dont feel so comfortable as if I buy the 105 with IS, I have like 1k$ to spare. But I will probably miss that 2.8 :/, got 70-200 2.8 and love it.

I saw all the videos etc. but I want to ask also here, as Im shooting a little bit of stock photos, but im gonna make lot more this year.

I know it is evergreen probably, but I will appreciate any advice. Thank you.

1. Like most companies they reserve the right to change their T&C whenever they want. (I'm not so keen that they don't undertake to give users a certain amount of notice of changes.)

2. They own all rights to their software and whatever else makes the service work, soyou'd better not hack, reverse-engineer or anything else.

Ah I see, ok thanks a lot

« on: February 18, 2013, 12:35 »
Hi guys, I just received invite to Canon1709 project (cloud for images you shoot). I was thinking about it e.g. as a backup, or some online storage. I know there are tons of other ways, but as I am Canon shooter, why wont try it. What caught my eye is Terms of Service, as Im not native Eng, it is little bit hard to get it, but I dont like the bold part. Is it something to worry about? I don't like someone own my IP.

interesting reading

I can't get the page to load from the link or from the CNET site itself. All I get is "Whoops! You broke the Internet!" Anyone else having this problem? Did it get taken down?

Same for me, maybe they pull it off after call from Getty :D
