Anyone have experience on Snapwire as a stock agency? I found an old thread, but there is not much info. Not interested in the brief part - just the stock agency part. Thnx.

Brilliant from the perspective of extracting as much money from us as possible. 79

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy- Any success??« on: August 27, 2015, 16:36 »
I have roughly the same photos on Alamy as on micros. One just sold for $150 ($75 my cut) that sells quite regularly on micros for much, much less. I don't have a portfolio that sells with regularity on Alamy, but I certainly like the sale prices and royalty level a lot.

I believe the current rule is that they will not take an image of a camera if it is the main element of a photo. Someone walking with a camera around their neck is fine, or taking a photo, but straight product shot images of cameras are not being accepted.

Stocksy / Re: Call to Artists 2015« on: August 08, 2015, 00:58 »Got refused again... Not very sure what the stocksy look is that they want. Guess will have to build more images of that sort and try again Sorry to hear. What is looked for now in new members is filling "holes" in the collection and not more work that duplicates existing members work. That might be the best strategy for getting accepted. Look for areas that are not well covered and try and direct your work into those areas. 84

+1 on Cobalt. I earn more from Stocksy than all the other micros combined. It's a great group of photographers, editors and support staff. Very small community. That said it is not for everyone. Editing is very tight. There is a very distinct vibe the editors are looking for.

Too strange for me. People vote on your images, and most of mine were voted out. Never got passed that. I have a few images there, on sale last time I looked, but I have not even logged on in months. I could never figure out what they wanted.

The occasional sale with 1,200 photos. I like them because of the 50/50 split but sales are pretty slow.

I am thinking this is because the buyer only imagined using the photo, thus the imaginary royalty payout!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Warning about Demotix« on: June 15, 2015, 14:32 »
You could always invoice them for the appropriate amount and sell it to a collection agency or use small claims court if they don't pay. I'm not sure if you are in the same country or not, which would help. I was in a dispute with a large company and once I told them I was filing in small claims court they immediately capitulated.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy images for sale at CreativeMarket - Royalties?« on: June 15, 2015, 10:09 »Stocksy is a big failure on many levels, and now it seems they are getting desperate for sales. 90% of the the failure is the curation, it is done by 12 year old hispterfan teengirls recruited from random instagram accounts. They are extremely good at picking out the useless, chaotic stuff - to be "so different"... I guess. Just look at the opening page, it has become an ugly mess. Huh? From the inside looking out, I can tell you you are dead wrong. Substitute "big success" for "big failure" and you would have it right. Like it or not, Stocksy has been nothing but a success story. You don't have to agree with the editing and content choice, but I can assure you failure is not a word you can associate with this company. 91

Not a fan of IB. It reminds me of the workers hanging around a corner waiting for the dudes in pickup trucks to come by an make day work offers,, everyone scrambling to get a job.

Alamy.com / Re: RM prices same as RF« on: June 05, 2015, 09:06 »
I used to be in RM many years ago before iStock and yes everything was RM. Much more lucrative, but a different era. And we used to complain bitterly about the agencies taking 50%!

Alamy.com / Re: RM prices same as RF« on: June 04, 2015, 14:08 »
Thanks Sue. I am still amazed they would sell RM that cheaply. I am a buyer in my day job and I know all about the discounts, but even Getty does not sell their RM for prices that low. I had a small sales burst at Alamy so that inspired me to try the their RM route. We'll see ....

Alamy.com / RM prices same as RF« on: June 04, 2015, 13:34 »
I put a few photos on RM on Alamy as a test and when I look at the pricing on the images it is identical to the pricing on the RF images, right up to the "Marketing package: Large business " option. After that there is "Or choose another rights-managed license" My sole reason for trying RM was to have the photos not sell at RF prices. Am I missing something here?

Off Topic / Re: Ireland votes YES for equal marriage !!« on: May 26, 2015, 16:49 »
I know people have strong feelings on this issue, and I am strongly pro. To put it statistically in perspective, in Canada, where it is legal, there are 10 million male/female married couples, 1.6 million common law male/female couples and 20,000 same sex married couples. The number of same sex marriages is such a small percentage of the population that any economic or other impact is very low. Live and let live. We have bigger issues to worry about in my opinion.

Photo Critique / Re: Food images, Critique please« on: May 07, 2015, 09:42 »
I think you either need to go more "rustic" with more dramatic lighting and textures or super clean with crisper lighting and better detailing on the fruit etc. You are sort of stuck in the middle right now.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Game is on - agencies want high quality content. I am falling behind« on: May 06, 2015, 09:14 »
I think there is a mis-conception about Stocksy and filtration. The emphasis is on good photography, not on filtered images.
