Adobe Stock / Adobe stock/Fotolia confusion
« on: June 27, 2015, 14:21 »
So, if I am already on Fotolia should I open an account with Adobe stock or are they one and the same?

iStockPhoto.com / Remove vector...just raster?
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:27 »
With the prices for Vector work being so low these days, I am choosing not to put vector files for sale, unless the royalties are well enough. I think there is very little lack of understanding how much time it takes to create good vector artwork. For now I will sell raster versions of my illustrations in iStock, I just can't give away the source or vector versions as low as an image. There is a great unbalance in pricing out there. This is becoming the same with HD video/animations...the royalties are becoming so low that the time and effort that goes into them is greater than the return. It's just sad to see the industry devalue its own commodity.

Strange, today I recieved two email stating two of my files on Fotolia sold. Strange thing is, I removed my portfolio there a long time ago...what gives?

iStockPhoto.com / Improving?
« on: June 05, 2014, 21:18 »
Anyone else seen improving sales? The past two months I have had a lot of iStock credit sales and got stronger Getty and PP sales. I haven't had a single iStock subscription sale yet, but that mixed with new China market, I have to say I'm excited.

Stocksy / Is Stocksy interested in 3d rendered stills
« on: March 08, 2014, 11:30 »
I'm just curious, looking at more options these days for obvious reasons. I am a animator and I like creating realistic scenes in CG. I am a trained studio photographer and a lot of the techniques and lighting translate. I like to do things in CG that aren't easily photographed as I have complete control.

Note: my current port is based on what sells in microstock and have less time put in than my capabilities

Shutterstock.com / How are video sales at SS?
« on: March 01, 2014, 12:05 »
SS is definitely my most consistent agency for selling my images. My sales and $ grow every month. For videos I am currently exclusive at IS. It was going well, but the past two months I haven't had a GI sale (which is odd). This past month I had some decent normal IS sales which is typically rare...however, I'm wonder if I'd do better branching out. I am looking at SS specifically because they seem to be on their game and I couldn't be more pleased with image sales there. With that said...for those of you animators and videographers who have work at SS...how are sales?

Photography Equipment / Advice on lenses
« on: January 06, 2014, 14:45 »
Hi all,
I have an older Nikon DSLR which I love. I have a stock 18-55mm lens as well as a a few manual lenses (85-200mm and a 50mm f1.8). I am looking for lenses that won't break the bank that are AF. I want an AF 50mm at the least that is f1.8. I am open to OEM non-Nikon lenses as long as they work. Any suggestions?

General - Top Sites / image of US currency issue
« on: January 02, 2014, 09:40 »
Hi,
I have some 3d renders that have money in them. The money images used to map the dollars is a scan and I removed some of the serial info, however it was rejected by iStock for possible copyright infringement. The money is apart of the image, but not the main focus. What else do I have to remove/change to get this accepted?

Pond5 / What's up with Pond5
« on: August 25, 2013, 20:09 »
So I recently added many images to the t
Op sites to the right. They are all doing well on every site but Pond5... Any ideas why? My pricing is in range of most images of the same caliber...but no sales and zero views on my top performers even...am I missing something?

I am mostly a video guy, but I do have studio photography experience. Previously I did not put much effort into images as I couldn't produce the numbers to get a decent return. However I have been dabbling lately and decided to put images on iStock, Shutterstock, Pond5, Dreamstime, and Depositphotos. They all have approximately the same images, however there were a tiny portion rejected from Dreamstime...the rest seem to accept all of them. The images have now been up a couple of months...here are my thoughts on each agency from someone just starting. Surprising getting accepted went pretty smooth at all places as I have read some struggles on these forums, so that put a +1 on my ego :).

iStock - Sales are okay through iStock main site, however most image sales are coming in from the Partner Program. Now the PP has only about 30% of my images ported from iStock, which is disappointing as it could be a bigger source of revenue...all in all sales are decent, but if they could address some issues they could be better.

Shutterstock - Sales a super strong...only thing is $0.25 an image is low, however if I was able to boost the amount of images, this could provide a nice return. All in all I have way more sales at Shutterstock than iStock(minus PP). This was the most surprising to me and sales started almost immediately, while a few years ago when I had content on SS I had no sales for a long time...So I hold SS in higher regard now.

Dreamstime - Sales are poor even thouigh views are decent, but I get a high return per images...more than 4X what I get per image from SS it seems. I find they reject a lot of images for odd reasons, but do allow appeals. Their review times are long, but they do provide a countdown which I have not seen elsewhere. I'm hoping things pick up, but overall SS and iStock are blowing them away as far as performance.

Depositphotos - Sales are poor, but views are up. The return is small, but a bit better than SS. Overall, I love the back-end uploading process...seems to be the best I have run into...just wished the site performed much better.

POND5 - No sales...no views...this is very disappointing as the returns at Pond5 are great, but sales are non existent and views just aren't showing. It is by far the one I want to perform most, but it doesn't seem like a pl;ace buyers go for images as videos is their strong suit. Oh well :(.

I have looked into Stocksy, but I don't feel my style of images match their motif. I did have content up on Fotolia a long time ago and it did okay, but I just wasn't happy with them overall and decided not to go back. I may try 123RF, but I'm not sure how far I want to branch out just yet.

Shutterstock.com / SS Stats
« on: July 16, 2013, 12:03 »
I'm pretty new to Shutterstock. I had some content on there a few years ago and recently started uploading there again as it seems to be a good earner now. I am please with download although royalties are very low, but It is my understanding that is typical at my current level.

Anyway, the stats don't seem to update on my main overview...the download stats page is up to date, but the other seems to take days to update...any logic behind that?

Also, is there anywhere to look at views?

Dreamstime.com / DREAMSTIME
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:09 »
I recently decided to put some of my best sellers on Dreamstime. A lot of them were refused. I find it comical as they are all approved on the other top sites and selling well. I'm just not going to waste my time at Dreasmtime...it took ions for them to inspect and then their notes seems like they want me to over saturate and blowout my images. I guess my work just doesn't fit into what they are looking for.

iStockPhoto.com / IStock stale
« on: June 03, 2013, 22:53 »
Sales have stopped over the past few weeks for me at IS. I'm thinking the floodgates have opened with the unlimited uploads and now those of us with smaller portfolios are buried in the sea of additions. Anyone else noticing this?

Shutterstock.com / Recieved an email from Shutterstock.
« on: April 23, 2013, 15:38 »
Hi Guys,
I just received an email from Shutterstock. They saw some of my video work online and invited me to join. I am currently exclusive at IS, but have been debating on branching out. Is this something Shutterstock does often? I actually had work on there a few years back, but pulled it once I went exclusive at IS...I guess I am just looking for some insight into Shutterstock as far as video...

General - Top Sites / gaps in stock images/footage
« on: April 03, 2013, 14:58 »
I know iStock puts out what they call "creative briefings" which highlight specific subjects they find are wanted by customers and lacking in their collection. Is there anywhere that puts out a more general version of this idea? Something that spans across all stock sites?

17
So...iStocks sales have drastically declined over the past few months(drastically more than then they tend to be this time of year)...views seem to be down as well, although they are often broken (like most things seem to be with their system). Are the declining sales to stock in general or is this specific to iStock?

Either way the bigger question is why are they down. The lack of transparency on IS has only led to speculation.

General - Top Sites / Exclusive or Branch Out
« on: February 12, 2013, 14:38 »
I am currently an exclusive for videos on one of the top sites, but I recently started uploading photos and illustrations. Originally with video I was spread out across the big 4, but sales on one site lead me to go exclusive. It was odd because that site had the highest rates...making me assume buyers just weren't shopping around. It has been about a year since I went exclusive with video. It started off well, but over the past 6 month or so sales have become stale...even with a growing portfolio. I'm out of the loop at this point on the other agencies, but is this drop in sales across the board for stock video or is it just that agency...how well are photo and illustration holding up?

So I'm probably going to test the waters with photos and illustrations across multiple sites. In short, I'd like to hear everyone's experiences with exclusive vs branching out. Is there more money, exposure to be made branching out?
