I like the changes and I am excited they are gearing up to move away from Flash so videos will be viewable on mobile soon. I do agree the subtraction of the description is an odd choice...but simplicity is good. My sales at iStock have been decent and steady over the past few months now, so I think they are making the right moves.

General Stock Discussion / Re: A COPYCAT
« on: February 19, 2015, 19:29 »
It is straight up copying of the concept. Sadly they didn't even put their own spin on it. Since the images and assets used are not the same I don't think you can do much about it. This is just common place. The best you can do is keep creating. Let him be Burger King to your McDonalds...

Sounds like they owe you 28 cents. Are you sure the subs were calculated for the timeframe the image was purchased? IStock only calculates them the following month at no defined schedule. They are the hardest to track

Image Sleuth / Re: Fiverr

There is no excuse for those just giving the stock images away for a price.

However those performing graphic design on Fiverr and utilizing paid stock image in their work for a client are not necessarily doing anything wrong. In fact there is no difference than doing freelance work for a client project and using stock.

They are in the wrong if they use the same stock design.template on multiple jobs, as many of them do. They'll buy some stock logo templates, for example, and then just crank out tons of the same logo just with different text.

I agree, but that isn't the norm. That is folks cheating the system and I agree Fiverr does nothing to stop it, which is certainly upsetting. I have to say there are some hacks taking advantage, but there are others offering some real services.

As a side note: The whole $5 thing is a gimic as most services start at something very basic for $5, but the rates quickly go up.

My main focus is video, but I also have a share of images. Most of my Image sales come from the partner program, which exclusives are not s part of. For video exclusivity works for me, but images no longer seems to make sense

I had shutterstock do the same thing when I posted a demo reel of my istock videos on youtube. Not desperate, just recruiting contributors.

NFL is right.  If there is a more tedious underpaid job than image inspecting I can't imagine what it is.

Umm...they seem to fair better than a micro stock contributor...

you are very boring people.

Istock remains between 85% and 55% of photographers money.

This large percentage is to pay INSPECTORS to control exclusivity among other things besides eating oysters and light cigars with money.

Do not be so foolish as to make them work for free. Those photos are clich millions across the image banks.

Although I don't think the folks here are boring, I have to agree that agencies need to earn their huge commissions by doing their part...again another time they are not living up to their end.

35
To me exclusivity made sense at IS just for my videos. My images are branched out across agencies. I just don't see exclusivity with images worth it at IS any longer. I get way more downloads at SS..the only reason IS beats SS is because of the partner program...which you lose with exclusivity. That is from my experience anyway.

Thinking about the amount of work that goes into most vector illustrations the royalties are way too low to be worth while for me. I did a few and the returns just aren't worth the effort especially with vectors. It's sad as they should be selling for more than photos...especially when considering subscriptions.

It was a real hack job image too, I guess I stock really does accept anything anymore

iStockPhoto.com / Remove vector...just raster?
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:27 »
With the prices for Vector work being so low these days, I am choosing not to put vector files for sale, unless the royalties are well enough. I think there is very little lack of understanding how much time it takes to create good vector artwork. For now I will sell raster versions of my illustrations in iStock, I just can't give away the source or vector versions as low as an image. There is a great unbalance in pricing out there. This is becoming the same with HD video/animations...the royalties are becoming so low that the time and effort that goes into them is greater than the return. It's just sad to see the industry devalue its own commodity.

Anyone else notice the iStock logo is blurry on the desktop at full screen on the new front page now?

It's also rough on a desktop...looks good enough on mobile. Kind of an issue with a lot of responsive sites is the elements are awkwardly large on desktops. And why aren't the videos mobile ready yet?

Strange, today I recieved two email stating two of my files on Fotolia sold. Strange thing is, I removed my portfolio there a long time ago...what gives?

« on: June 10, 2014, 10:47 »
My sales have continued to be strong...at least for iStock standards. Been getting a few credit sales a day...a few months back I was lucky to get a few a week. Typically GI and PP sales have keep me alive, but if credit sales continue to pick-up I'd be happy. I also noticed the images are of a select group...so maybe they have gotten a decent placement in best match.

one agency or many? All photos?

Anyone else seen improving sales? The past two months I have had a lot of iStock credit sales and got stronger Getty and PP sales. I haven't had a single iStock subscription sale yet, but that mixed with new China market, I have to say I'm excited.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS moving content to Site in China
« on: June 05, 2014, 21:13 »
Uh, isn't the internet worldwide?  If China wanted iStock content they can already get it.

Of course this probably halves any royalties.

Chinese government controls the internet and restricts content its people can see. I only know this as I used to handle the website of my previous employer. Their Chinese office had to have a local hosted site separate from corporate as anything outside of China is heavily censored and what does get through is painfully slow. They used to use the analogy of a blocked pipe.
