Microstock News / Zoonar with new, fresh design
« on: December 07, 2015, 05:21 »
I like the new design of Zoonar and I wish, it should run well for Zoonar. From time to time I achieve very good sales there.

Everyone thinks the world is ending, because Shutterstock facilitates the entrance test. But what about Fotolia?  They never had a test. And I think the quality of the image material is not so different.

People upload the same pictures everywhere and the agencies take what they want. Entrance exam does nothing if the reviews are like they are on SS. Now people who can't pass will upload and get rejected and find out why they don't pass the exam.

As I mentioned earlier, the question is really "why" they are doing this.  If in the end no more images make it into their collection due to tough inspections, why lower the criteria? There is cause and effect built into this decision, meaning there is an end game as to why they changed the criteria. In my mind they are trying to encourage more contributors to apply in order to grow their collection. Why on earth would they loosen the acceptance criteria if their inspections block most new content? So, I have several theories but the most obvious one is probably to let in more newbies so they pay out less. It's about revenue and operating income. How better to reduce payouts than simply cutting our royalties when they can dilute long term contributor income with contributors getting 25 cents a download or whatever. Looks very good on the financials when they can say we added X new contributors, X number of images and gross margins are up 10%.
Sounds pretty convincing,. What else is possible?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Which gender sells more in general?
« on: December 01, 2015, 19:33 »
Don't know, but I beleave, that pics of women will always sell better, because generally more females are represented in advertising. However, my bestseller is a simple shot of a granite pavement, and I've always wondered why  8)

It's probably a female rock, but you take it for granite.

Ha ha. ... ha.

LOL  :D

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Canstockphoto - is it worth it?

Stopped uploading some month ago, but then suddenly I've got more and better sales. So maybe Canstock could be worth a second trial!

Photoshop Discussion / Re: PSCC and NVIDIA GeForce drivers
« on: November 07, 2015, 20:55 »
Had a lot of troubles too some month ago and could solve the problems with downgrading the NVIDIA drivers to the 2 or 3 years old version I've got on CD-Rom with the NVIDIA card.

I've got the same message. Wondering, if it could be really necessary to confirm the email address after almost 7 years (in my case).  So I think, this must be phishing!

Saw this old thread pop up again. Is https://www.scanstockphoto.com/photo/index.php the only Scandinavian site out there? Just wondering if anyone knows of other sites that cater to Scandinavian imagery at traditional rather than micro prices?
There are some more, but ... for example YAY-Micro from Norway, with almost the lowest prices on the market. Stockphotomedia, located in Malm, Sweden I believe, with better prices, but sales are down for me there. And of course Mostphotos, there you have the opportunity to turn off the subscription-sales. However all these agencies are low earners and not worth any effort in my opinion.

2-3 Downloads per month, but I have just a few pics online there. So it isn't soo bad. And thank you for your thread, I had really forgotten Scandinavian Stockphotos untill today, and when I checked out the agency a saw my sales  :D 8)

I am wondering, if I'm shooting with a camera that has 28 mp, and in 3 years new cameras are probably going to have 40mp, are my photos today will be obsolete in 3 years?

How are you handling the technological advances in terms of old photos?

Back to the topic. I'm still using a Nikon D700 (12 MP) and a D300 (12 MP) beside my newer Nikon D750 (24 MP). The Images I shoot with the older Nikons sell well, even the pics I shot 5 or 6 years ago. Very few buyers want to make huge posters, but are looking for images for illustrations on the net and in print media. And for this purpose you don't need more than 8 or 10 MP.

Apart sharp images they prefer clear bright colors on Shutterstock. Maybe this will help you. Choose your best pics with bright, vivid colors and you'll getting in!

It's just the middle of the map. Every time a file is purchased and the buyer is not located by a lokal IP-adress, the pic will be shown in the middle of the map, somewhere in the ocean near the Canary islands  :D  8)

Hi,

I have about 300 images on Shutterstock and am starting to upload the images to Fotolia.

Does anyone have any idea or experience if it could mean a drop in sales at Shutterstock?

Don't worry, 300 pics are not relevant. It will probably generate more sales for you, if you load your content up to Fotolia too.

Does light room have anything like the "U point" technology or something that produces similar results for the same very low effort?
Actually not, but with the correction-brush and the radial correction filter it comes very close. But you can always add the NIK-Filters for a cheap price with Lightrooms. The U-Point-Technology was originally developed by NIK and the NIK-Filters works fine with Lightroom. The NIK-Filter Viveza will give you the same feeling like Capture NX.

Thanks helpful answer thats the way I'm thinking I might go do you think its actually any better/worth switching though? I think what I've got works for me but given its age I can't help wondering if I'm missing out :-\

Absolutly yes! You will get a whiter range of possabilities!

The next step will be that the EU introduces the light-tax for all fotographs!

96
um, not that I want to interrupt the discussion about the presidents of the US, the civil war and history of wars and US an Russian intervention in Europe.

Does this mean I can't sell editorial or commercial stock photos taken in Europe ?

Still you can. But no one knows how the bureaucrats in Brussels decide. Europe is developing into a great Soviet Union!

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Fotolia Stock Fail?
« on: June 17, 2015, 15:52 »
Almost 48 hours have passed since the great news published by Adobe Fotolia.

From yesterday till now I have 60% less sales at Fotolia. Even worse as the weekend sales! Even "Low Earners" Stocks are better. And the others?

Check your earnings next year in june, then you'll see how your sales developed!

I think, what you're recognizing are the constant ups and downs as always. Nothing unusual.

They changed from the fastest review times in the whole stockmarket to the (almost) longest at one point last year.

But what about the FB user agreements? FB claimed the right to use any uploaded content for its own purposes. I would never upload any picture in full resolution and without watermark to FB!
