One more question regarding partner sale: I have a smaller port on Depositphoto, what then happens to the duplicates? I definitely do not want my own pics from Deposit to compete with the ones i upload directly on Pond5.

Just let our support know your user ID's on those three sites and they'll deactivate the ports from external partners. On YayMicro you can deactivate it on their site as well. I'm not sure about Feature and Deposit.

Thank you, i just did.

To asmai: linking of files JPG+EPS will be added later as a feature, first launch will not have that feature yet.

As for reselling: Pond5 currently distributes microstock content from YayMicro, DepositPhotos and FeaturePics. 123RF content is not there anymore as the partnership was terminated in the past. We also distribute traditional RF agencies.

Thanks, Zager

A small note: Vectors are completed, we've tested it and right now we're only making some database changes so we can accept vectors in large scale. Give us some days/weeks hopefully. This step redefines the DB structure a bit. And once that's done, we have a green flag for vectors.

Personally, I can't wait :)

Thank you Zager, we cant wait. Please confirm that we have the possibility to add vector format to already uploaded jpegs. Thank you.

thanks everyone for the info!

@asmai,

where would you place pond5 in terms of revenue? better than bigstock and/or canstock? if it is, then it's worth it..

(it might be different with my illustrations though.. some styles just go well as rasters)

It is about the level of Bigstock for me  before (i closed my account there), not as good as canstock, but it is because canstock doing pretty well for me. Pond5 is consistently better than Alamy for me, though. Also, the thing is sales at Pond5 are less often, but they give me the best satisfaction of all agencies, as i set a good price and i know exactly what i would get for a sale. Also, they give the buyers opportunity to contact you directly, i got my biggest sale ever through them, if i count that sale, it would be at the level of FT, and canstock for me.

If your files can sell as jpeg i would suggest you just upload jpeg first, they are probably running much behind schedule for this. I wrote to them and they said i could upload jpeg first, when the vector format comes i can just add it in, so i did, and they sell while waiting for the vector.
And of course you really dont want to upload via 123, instead of 50% your price (which i wouldn't set below 20$) you would get cents at 123!

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Offering Free Images
« on: August 27, 2013, 19:57 »

As far as offering a few free images, it gives you a way to advertise and rank for "free images".  I'm not sure if anyone doing a search for free images can be turned into a customer or not?  As you say, however, it might give potential paying customers a way to check out a couple of your images and increase their confidence in purchasing either now or at a later date.

Yes, at least i had one instant for sure that someone looked for "free medical images" landed on my site (because of royalty free ), and half an hour later ended up with over a 100$ purchase, and did not even used the promotion coupon i had advertised on every page. It was for an university so i guess they dont care much about how much they have to pay, but i could not get it why they look for "free" at the beginning, probably to report to their boss that they did look for free but none available?
Also, i guess people look for free first, why not, and then if they can not find what they want for free, a reasonable option would be next.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: google deindexing images?
« on: August 18, 2013, 10:30 »
Hi all,

Need your expert advice. I had 138 images indexed but for last one week it became 135 and now it is 133.

Any idea what should I do and why is google deindexing?

I am no expert, but i dont think you should worry about the exact numbers, mine are 1080 one day, 960 the next and 1120 the third, i think google reindex them all the time. As long as the number does not fall off the cliff, i guess it's normal for it to go up and down a little.

I got exactly the same situation here, and it's not only because of different definition of  a visit, from Bluehost server i get visits from more countries than google, and they count robots , but separately so you can see the portion that is not from robot, they even count search from google , for example as 60, and on goggle itself it's reported 2. Very strange, if anyone knows anything about this it please share.
i know for sure for one instance that i have a buyer from Serbia, the sale gone through perfectly, the user also registered on my site a few days before the sale, and google did not register any visit from this location, nor any sign- in page or check- out page.

take a look at symbiostock.com   you could probably set one size to $.00 and keep the others at whatever price you want

Thanks, do i have the option of putting ads on every page and set the smallest size to whatever i want?

default size is 250 for blog size but you can set it to whatever you want.

you place ads by putting text (eg your adsense script) in the header or footer

Thanks, cascoly, looks like that the way to go.

when you're ready just leave a note in the symbiostock forum here & you'll be added to the global search network

steve

Thanks, Steve, will do.

So, from the frustration of selling from your own site, i have quite a lot of visits with very low sale (low conversion rate). Apparently people just want free stuffs. So i am thinking, i am gonna give them free small res of my images (say 300px) with a link to my site for those who want to buy higher resolution versions, and make money from advertising instead, and also adding a "donate" button for those who feel like paying a small amount for what they have for free.
Do you guys know any platform i can build something like that easily?

Well, with my port the situation is a bit different, mine are all educational pictures that some time i feel i can give educational institutes in poor countries for free (but dont know how to do that), most of them would be good at that small resolution.
This would only work if the photos were culturally relevant. Trust me, I was a teacher who used Microsoft pics and bought these bumper CD sets, and most of the images were so American they were unusable in the UK.

yes my pictures are relevant for most if not all countries , that is for sure, science does not have cultural borders, except in extreme cases, i am a science teacher myself and that what i would use, i have also lived in all parts of the world. Infact, if i could afford it, i would like to do like Wikipedia, to which i donate regularly, but ofcourse i can not, i still have to earn my livings.

And, i could get good advertising business with just number of visits, so it's not for free, strictly speaking, and i would definitely increase traffic to my site , too, hopefully.
Are you sure? Do you often click on adverts when you're visiting sites?
[/quote]

Ofcourse i can not be sure, but i see many of medical infos website make money out of generic infos, and my images, that even though they dont give them for free per se, people are free to just right click and get them, and as i said, they are good in small resolution. You dont know till you try.

139
Please dont give your images away for free dude.

Anyways, if someone knows a platform, it would be helpful. Thanks

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - Unsold contents (ANNOUNCEMENT)
« on: July 29, 2013, 13:22 »
Deleted all the pics that i care about and that had less than 5 sales (just to be on the safe side), they can have all the old generic junk though. I can see more of this kind of things coming. At some point in near future my port with them would just contain pure junk that dont sell anywhere else, well, that exactly what they want, they got it.

I really want to join. But it's definitely too complicated for me (i have no idea whatsoever about coding and dont have time to learn now) and i am nervous every time something does not work. I have a site with Photoshelter and am happy with it. I would be ready to pay the same  monthly subscription (without the sale commission bit) to have another site with Symbiostock if one day Leo can offer some service similar to that. I dont really need all the features that Photoshelter offer, but i need someone to take care of the coding part and  take care of the maintenance and bugs.

Leo does provide this service. He can take care of getting your site up and running for you for a fee, so you dont need to know coding

remember seeing that a while ago (http://www.symbiostock.com/symbiostock-site-setup-services-maintenance-assistance/)

I saw that, but what i need is not a one time start-up service, i need a regular maintenance and trouble shoot, that's why i am ready to pay monthly fees instead of one time starting fee.

Pond5, you set the price,  and  if people would like your photos on posters or canvas prints, try Zazzle , you set your commission.
Alamy is an disappointment for me, got all the micro price lately, you have no control of the price whatsoever.

Adobe Stock / Re: 9 sales from same image at once
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:11 »
I got that many times at FT, and only at FT, always sub sale, and for one time it's was like 20 sales of the same image. I am sure it's the same buyer. I dont think that is accidental, though, probably a cheap way to get an EL  >:(

I have noticed this shuffle for the first time, very clearly, since about 5 days ago, still going on until today, all my old  useless junks are selling, surprising, but not complaining here.

Same in NY - if it's electronic no sales tax is due. However, if I sell a print to someone in New York, my site is set up to collect sales tax. I have my site with Photoshelter and they have it set up so that you can go in and charge sales tax by location. I'm not required to collect sales tax for out of state sales.

I contacted the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and they directed me about how to become a sales tax vendor, explained that I didn't need to collect tax on electronic downloads, and now I pay the sales tax that I've collected each year to them once a year, and get a partial refund for collecting the taxes. It takes less than half an hour to fill out the tax forms online. It also gives me a tax break (i.e. I don't have to pay sales tax on certain purchases used in connection with my photography business). You need to keep careful records (as you do with any income) but it's a pretty easy system.

I'd call your state taxing authority and ask them how it works. I found them very helpful which was rather unexpected. Like me, you might be pleasantly surprised. And once you know how it works you won't have to be concerned that you're doing something wrong. You'll have peace of mind & it's probably less complicated than you think. Good luck

Thank you so much, wordplanet, very useful infos, i guess i will have to call them soon.

I hope it's not a bug. Having a heart attack right now and will have another one if i have to return them.

Probably start looking here:

http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/sales,_use___hotel_occupancy_tax/14487/taxability_lists/580900

You may have to contact some one from Pennsylvania's Dept. of Revenue or your accountant.

Thanks a lot.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Easy money....
« on: April 18, 2013, 10:00 »
It's extremely easy. I have spent my entire 6 weeks full time building my site, SEO and creating exclusive content for it, and yesterday i got my first sale that net me roughly 5$, Woohoo. We went out for dinner to celebrate and spent 30$. Easy! :)

Please invite me over for the party when you make your first $100  ;D

Sure hope you can wait till that day  :). With this rate of celebration i may go bankrupt before that  :)
