Adobe Stock / Re: My images always refused by fotolia
« on: May 08, 2013, 04:45 »
I had 4 landscape images accepted 3 weeks ago. I'm still recovering from the shock!

Sounds like a great plan.

1. Yes, I'm shooting with a DSLR as well, I'd always use the highest quality setting available. The minimum should be 1080p 24fps since you can earn more with HD footage.

2. Not sure about Movie Maker, but most people are using Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Marco.

Most of my images have the GPS coordinations embedded. The direction should speak for itself when looking at the map.

I agree Xanox.
I don't expect to make any profit with travel stock, it is hard work, but then nothing and no-one can take away the experiences of a lifetime.

Marco,
What is the payout minimum? Are you using PayPal, Moneybookers and/or bank transfer (for euro countries)?

85
Anyone willing to share their price levels? Is anyone filling in keywords and description?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Fotolia and Travel Pics

I think travel pics could be the act of travelling or places which attract tourism.

FT has so far been the only agency which sold EL for my travel pics, they do have travel agencies as their customers.
I've had ELs on iS on 'travel photos', but I don't know if they were used in a travel context.

Ah yes IS, I took down my uploads after reading on MSG .

The funny thing is, I only sell travel pics (the ones that got through) on FT  ::)

I sold all the few they accept too
So it means that they really know what landscape photos will sell and what will not  ;D
Haha I wouldn't say that, they rejected the ones which sell better elsewhere ;D

This topic is old, but it has no sense to open a new one

Yes, I can confirm that Fotolia hates landscapes and outdoor photos.
I just had an almost full batch of very nice river landscapes rejected (about 80 images), while the same images have been accepted everywhere without problem.

I don't understand them.
I know that it is their business and that they manage it following the considerations that they have done (I hope for them even if at a certain point I am not quite sure), but I should be very happy if somebody from the Fotolia staff could come here to explain the reasons why they almost systematically reject this kind of photos.

Their policy is fine with me, most of my pics come on top in their search database.

General - Stock Video / Re: Which smaller sites are worth it?
« on: April 07, 2013, 09:07 »
Anybody know the royalties for footage at 123RF?
I can't find it and I don't upload images there because of the low royalties.

I've 3 footage sales at 123rf, 2 x revenue was 1,80$ for 240p each and 1x 8,87$ for Full HD 1080p. What I don't know, if these are subscription or "to go" sales. Even if they are subscription sales, it's much less than the half you get at SS for subscription sales. So I'm thinking about to stop uploading there.
Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I won't be uploading there.

91
Don, how about asking Shutterstock if you could be included in Offset?

found this:
http://www.123rf.com/contrib_structure.php

Thanks, Ive found that one before, it just doesnt seem realistic to get paid $0.216 for footage. If thats the case, theres no way Im submitting anything to them.

still no sales in well over a week now, starting to get a bit worried, maybe i should stop uploading here for a while and put my time and effort into fotolia etc for a bit (where i  stil need to upload my whole port to!)
Not sure if FT is any better, they reject images which have been accepted at all other agencies for unknown reasons.

cant be as bad as some of the shutterstock rejections haha

I hope you'll do better in FT than I do. My approval rate at FT for the last couple of months is 50%, comparing to 94% for SS and 100% for DT. Footage is even worse at 20% for FT and 100% for SS.
Good thing FT is my number two earner, otherwise I would've left already.

« on: March 31, 2013, 05:53 »
No wonder my editorials haven't been reviewed for a week now, they have been up and running with other agencies already.
Oh well, I guess I don't submit editorials to SS anymore.

15% single, 45% subs, 40% rest. No pattern in subjects.

Am I correct to assume Offset would be the place to offer images considered too artsy by SS?

Not exactly.  It's in the FAQ, but we're looking for images that meet a few criteria:

  • They're "authentic." I.e., they're aspirational, but the lighting and situations look perfectly real and naturalistic.
  • They tell a story and they're immersive. In other words, images that as either a single image or a group of images tell a story that you want to spend time with.  Some of the best images from National Geographic, for example, are images that you can spend time with and pore over.  They have an intensity that focuses your interest, even as a single image.
  • They've got contemporary art direction and style.  Food images, for example, will be carefully styled for catalog use or use in gourmet magazines.
  • They've got high production values.

Searching through the collection right now, you can pick a single keyword and get all aspects of a particular topic.  If it's food, for example, it can be from the farm, to preparation, to the plated meal, to sustainable agriculture.

The idea is to do more than simply showcase amazing images - it's to curate a collection of high-quality images that work together to be really engaging and immersive.  That's one reason that we're not just relying on existing, traditional stock to build the collection.   Curation is much more than editing and we're giving image buyers the ability to tell beautiful stories.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your explanation Scott! It certainly helps. So far in my experience (I shoot mostly nature and wildlife), those kind of images have never sold well in stock agencies comparing to the straightforward kind of images.
It's great storytelling images now have found a home, I hope Offset will be successful!
