General Stock Discussion / Re: Pocketstock
« on: March 12, 2013, 22:43 »
There are only a few that have been a complete waste of time for me.  I wish more people had got behind some of the small sites instead of spending so much time complaining about the big sites.

If the big sites hasn't cut commissions, I doubt I would of tried many of the smaller sites but I don't see any point in being loyal to sites that are slowly making microstock unsustainable for me.  It was great selling an EL with Zymmetrical and getting $70 commission but because so few people gave them a chance, they've gone now.  I have no regrets giving them a go.

I agree too. A healthy competition is needed in this industry. We don't want to see certain sites monopoly the whole industries and we have no choice but to follow the giants' rules. Sometimes new sites are good way for newbie contributors to start up as all the giants has overcrowded, provided the site is well developed, not a scam. Just my opinion.

It's unhealthy competition and a waste of time, all they do is cut prices and ruin the marketing.

I strongly agree with you. Simply cutting price is an unhealthy approach which will ruin the stock photo market. But not all of them, there are some those cheap price sites we should certainly avoid.

I see, that's the market.  :D

Indeed. I think some images are used in skin care product markets and dermatology, etc, but the images are used otherwise mainly, I think.

I can see that skin care usages should be partial ("safe") nudity.   :)

I see. That's good! Did you found out where are your those shots used in?
Btw, I see Getty selling price quite high.   ;D

I have some nudes RM and some RF, so the price points are different and also the info about how/where they're used. But I know one rather artsy image was in a European edition of Playboy and another on the cover of a magazine that seems like Maxim or something.

Getty's price points vary, however RM is the most variable and RF changes often.

I see, that's the market.  :D

Hi all

I believe I've seen a topic about this recently - Pocketstock. I've just received a mail from them, where they state that they would like to represent my portfolio, and if I upload before this and this date, they will set the royalty rate to 40 % on all future uploads. Anyone else received this email?

Anyone of you in here represented on Pocketstock? Any sales?

Please enlighten me :-)

Oh, and my 50 cents regards Stocksy..... No answer yet for me either.

Brian

How did they get your email? I am wondering.

This is fine as 1000x1000px images shown in Google search result are watermarked images. It is like when user click to enlarge the image. Google robot did that as well. So I think it is not a problem at all, instead, it helps to promote your image, as it will provide searcher the original link back to your image page.

However, of course nonono if an agency site fail to protect our original images from being retrieved by Google.

Ya, I wonder if nude photos sell well.

A couple of my shots at Getty sell regularly and almost exclusively in Europe.

I see. That's good! Did you found out where are your those shots used in?

Ya, I wonder if nude photos sell well. I also wonder if nude photos can sell well in extended license. Because extended license might be needed for resale purpose if the nude photos are used as the main focus in prints or any art or adult content.  ::)

Newbie Discussion / Re: What's you strategy on testing new sites?
« on: February 28, 2013, 02:19 »
I feel don't focus the high commission %, like up to 70%, we need to focus on how much we can actually earn, and focus on whether the sale is high. If the selling price is too cheap, such as 50 cents per image, 70% is not interesting at all.

And to be honest, running a business is not cheap, how can a site offers for 70% commission and survive? Maybe they can, but very hard. Just beware most of them offering such high return might be scams.  :o

Newbie Discussion / Re: Refusals must be costing DT money.
« on: February 28, 2013, 02:06 »
The last three weeks or so I have had nearly all my submissions refused at DT yet strange to say  SS accepted many of them . DT must be losing money ? The reasons are spurious - focus, composition, etc etc whem in past the same type of pics were accepted. I am glad I got on to SS as I am thinking of foregoing my exclusivity on DT. What does everyone think as I am a newbie.Thanks.

Spread your eggs in many baskets as you can.

Agree. As long as we can reach wider market, earn more, why not? Unless we are selling exclusive images.  :D
