Microstock News / Re: Zymmetrical User stole my images
« on: March 07, 2009, 19:25 »
Before closing this thread, I'd like to point out that when some artist (here Lynx) tells everybody that he owns copyright of photos when he does not, to me it is very close to a thievery.

One way of avoiding this situation might be to show a generic mention like Copyright by Various Artists or something like this (I'm not a lawyer...).

Zymmetrical, I'd like to have your point of view on this...

And for what I understand, we are talking about agencies, not artists.  Here, Lynx is identified as an artist, who did all the photos in his portfolio.

Obviously that is not the case.  So why don't you identify clearly Lynx as a re-distributor or anything else but NOT as the photographer who did the photos?

Claude

Edited to add: Photos from Lynx's portfolio (at least the ones that I checked) are copyrighted by Lynx.  That is not the case , am I right?

One of my photos sells very well... In fact, sales of that particular photo represent more than 30% of all my sales  :-[

« on: March 02, 2009, 17:31 »
Sorry to hear that...  >:(

I will get some money, but not all, for my camera equipment because they consider it "business property" and only cover up to $1000.  Double grrrrr!  Note to others...if you ever have your stuff stolen, NEVER tell them you make any money using it!

When I renewed my insurances last fall, I did mention to them that I had some revenue from my photos.  So yes, I had to insure my equipment... But the good thing is that it cost me 28$/year to insure all my equipment (5 000$).  So it might worth to ask!

That said, try to focus on all the new stuff you HAVE to buy  ;)

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Woah - new upload system from canstock
« on: February 22, 2009, 19:53 »

yeah, i still get a number of sub sales (aren't they $.30?)  but there is also the odd fotosearch $20 sale which makes up the difference.

Yes you're right  ;) , my last sub sales gave me 0.30$ but untill last year, they earned me 0.25$ each.

And I agree with FD that I don't understand why one would close an account somewhere...  Stop uploading and forget about it! When you check couple of months later you may have some interresting sales!

I stopped uploading there because 95% of my sales are 25 subs... What about yours?

I'm ready to upload my photos but not at this sub's price!

I have to say that it will take some time to get used to see photographers with a microphone in place of the flash...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do categories matter?

It would be nice if categories were standardized by all sites so we could put it in IPTC...

But I think I'm dreaming  ;)

I would add  that for a model, being on a frontpage of a magazine must be very rewarding, no matter the subject of the magazine.

Ths man must be proud of it!

Not only there is no benefits for stock sites, but I think they would lose some money because many contributors never reach payout levels so this is good profit for the sites...

Lighting / Re: Are dedicated flash really unique?
« on: January 14, 2009, 19:18 »

The manuals say not to, as it will damage the camera(s).

And I'm pretty sure they're right!
Different cameras use different voltage and different connectors, so mixing everything will ruin either the flash' circuitry or even worse the camera's one.

I have an old 300EZ flash from the first EOS models, and it is NOT compatible with todays EOS camera. So even from the same brand you have to be careful...

Off Topic / Re: Rechargeable batteries.......
« on: January 14, 2009, 18:12 »
What are your favorite rechargeable batteries (especially AA-size) for your photo equipment, cameras, lights, etc?  I finally got an education in rechargeables, and realized that there's so much more to them than just buying any old set of chinese aa's and popping them in the cheap Walmart chargers I bought early last year.  What a waste of money those were!

This sounds a lot like what I do... :-[

So I turned back to regular alkaline Duracell.

So I'll follow this topic, I might learn something!

I agree, don't buy the 220EX: you cannot tilt the head and this one is not very different than a basic on-camera flash.

Looking for an elegant lighting solution for my studio shots (objects, not people yet), I've recently purchased 1 580EX and 3 430EX as well as an ST-E2 flash trigger instead of studio strobes : this is an extremely portable and inexpensive lighting setup powerful enough for objects studio shots as well as 1-2 people shots.

T

Why did you get a ST-E2 unit if you have a 580 which can be used as the master?

I do have a 430 and I'm planning to get a 580 shortly...  Are there some limitations on the 580's master capabilities?

To the OP, I did exactly what Leaf said here, I first bought a 430 and I'm looking for a 580 2 years after the 430.  I never encountered a situation where my 430 did not the job, I'll get a 580 only for that master capability

General Stock Discussion / Re: Color photos of WWI
« on: December 30, 2008, 21:56 »
Wow, I did not even know that there were color photos back then...

I thought that color was painted directly on the photography, as I saw on some wedding photos from that time.

Thanks for this link!

We have to get use to it because winter officially kicks in tomorrow!

But I'm off for two weeks so I will enjoy it!

I had 3 files pending since nov. 15.  Send them an email via Contributor Relation support page on 26th, they answered me (on 27th) :
quote: Unfortunately, there was a database error with these files which was preventing them from entering the inspection queue.  We have re-processed the files on your behalf and they are now back in the inspection queue.  We do apologize for any inconvenience.

They were reprocessed last night.

However there is a difference in off topic threads which are fun breaks from microstock, and off topic threads which are looking for an argument.

You can't say it in a better way!

Great move Leaf

There is also this gadget:
http://www.jobo.com/web/photoGPS.447.0.html

From what I understand, it takes a reading when you take a photo, so the tags are unique.

But as you can see, you cannot use your flash...

According to Popular Photo Magazine, (December), it is easier to use than other GPS system.
