Shall i seek medical help or get a change of identity and emigrate to a remote island where once again i can enjoy my peace of mind.

Go for the remote island.  And make sure there's no Internet access on it.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: The end of the video cameras -5D MarkII-
« on: November 23, 2008, 17:45 »
Interesting; but the fusion betwen photo and video can also come from the other side too.

Imagine a video camera that could take 20MPx still photos while filming; you will never more have to wait for that perfect timing.  Just shoot your continuous video and then extract from it perfect photo shots...

With the jumps we see in technology theses days, I see it in a near future!

You are right Adelaide, refund given by iStock were for these 3 reasons (quoted):

We regret to inform you that a refund has been issued for a purchase of your file #XXXXXX:
Member was charged twice for image downloaded on the same day.

We regret to inform you that a refund has been issued for a purchase of your file #XXXXXXX:
client downloaded this size in error, refunded as first time user and made exception, large file purchased instead.

and:
We regret to inform you that a refund has been issued for a purchase of your file #XXXXXX:
Member realized that she only needed small size.

So until someone else has that kind of refund from iStock (credit card fraud), I think we should remove iStock from that list.

I had a couple from iStock also.

Sometimes Credit Card thieves will run small sale tests to see if the card is active before making a large purchase somewhere else. It could be that Micro is a safe place for them to test their stolen info first. Just a guess.

Best,
AVAVA

Yes, you could be right...

Sorry but I can't imagine someone stealing a credit card to buy ..... stock photos...

Thieves are not that dumb!  They could steal the images more easily from some sites than a card number somewhere!

And with a valid stolen card number they can buy much more valuables items!

So maybe we are asking the wrong questions...

Usually I don't bother...

I live in Montreal and I think the only thing you have to remember is when you bring back inside your camera, wait some time to let the condensation disappear.

Compared to the film era, there are not that much moving parts in the camera and the batteries today are much more powerful than few years ago; so even if it's minus 20 or so, they have plenty of power available.

And remember, chill factors only apply to your body, not to objects...  ;)

When you change the settings only you will see it in that order.  The buyers will still see it in the popular order or whichever method they choose.

While on your "my images" page, click on the "square" symbol on top of the photos ID number.  It will sort your photo in that order, which is not exactly by date but almost...

Canon / Re: Canon 5D Mark II in stock anywhere? ..
« on: November 13, 2008, 20:28 »
From what I remember from the mid september press release, Canon said the the 5D MKII would be available in late november.

So I think it is premature to talk about problems with the camera...

I remember when they launched the 40D, they used the same tactic by creating an artificial shortage so buyers put themselves on a waiting list (which I did!).

One month after the launch, the store where I bought it lowered the price by about 200$ !

So my bet is a top price from the end of november (with few cameras available per store to justify that top price) followed by a 2 - 300$ lowered price right after Xmas...

We'll see!

I don't see how it could drop? If you enter a search, all the images with this keyword comes up. Then it's sorted by the most relevent using the best match criteria (dwl/month... views..). I don't see how to rank all these files with the same keyword with only keywords?

I get it!

claude

138

best match gives each file a value depending on whatever the current criteria are, relevancy to a search term is not one of them, so when you look at your own portfolio by best match  you see it ordered in ranking according to the current formula.

Yes, but don't you think that these ranking criteria must drop when the search by keyword comes in?

Claude

139
The easiest is to click on your name, than on the portfolio link on the right and make sure Best match sorting is selected. The question is: Do you have any images that have less than 10views/dl. If not do not worry about it because it just means that your images are flying below the penalty threshold.

Sorry, I don't get it...

How could your portfolio be sorted according to a Best Match; best matching what? There must be a reason why my photos shows in a given order when I look at my portfolio, but I think it has nothing to do with a search with keywords.

Am I wrong?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stamps as hot selling stock photos?

It can lead to some bizarre competition:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/industry/manufacturing/5315093-women-at-work.php?id=5315093

(these two stamps appears on the first 2 pages of my search; I could have used many more examples because there are lots of.  So please do not start a debate on which one was the first one!   ;)   )

it sounds like he is saying it is still a couple weeks yet from being in the stores.

I preordered here in Norway, will be interesting to see if there is a price chance there too?!  I hope not!

Looks like the Norwegian Krone is following the same path as the $CDN...

Canon / Re: Using Canon CR2 files
« on: November 05, 2008, 21:09 »
Hello Adelaide,
To answer some of your questions:

Should I install the software provided with the camera?

I think you have to because I think Canon offers only upgrades of their software on their site.

Would there be an updated version in Canon website?

The actual version of Canon Digital Photo Professional is 3.4

Is there another application (free or very cheap) better to use with CR2 files?

I don't know of any.  Before I used PS CS3, the RAW converter made By Canon was known to be very good.  Why would you choose a third party software when Canon has a good one?

Anything I should know before using RAW conversion?

I guess so  ;)
But I can't tell you much more than what I said here!

to keep me going...

the excitment of checking my graphs in the morning and seeing how things are changing
the joy of being self employed and do exactly what i want every day.
the fun to take pictures and trying to take ones that sell
being creative
getting to travel and take photos and have it as part of the job

And I would add the fun of getting new photo gear with the money I make!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is this allowed?
« on: November 01, 2008, 16:23 »
It looks like this member used your image as his avatar.

So I guess it should be ok.

It reminds me of one of my photo used in a template for  a photographer's site.  The company who did these templates (and selling them) used my photo (and others) on a faked site, something like John Smith Photo to illustrate their templates; imagine my reaction when I found it!

But navigating throught the site I realized what it was, and I know that TOS on many sites allow use of photos in templates, programs, etc...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Five days without a sale
« on: November 01, 2008, 16:06 »
When you only get one download every other day or so, that's pretty close to no downloads at all, so there really isn't any conspiracy.  Just the way things move in the great macro world of sales.

I may only have 1 to 5 dl a day but 5 days without any ( which also happened to me last week) is the first time since I joined 2 years ago...

So it must say something, but what?

Claude

149
Thanks, yes, it seems like they are taking stats from fotolia.

I don't get it, from my portfolio in this site, there is no correspondance between their so-call downloads and downloads from Fotolia...
