Thanks for the tips guys. Yes its a little daunting at first and I guess the trick as you say, is working out which librariers work best.

What I was finding with othe rmethods I was getting 33% of my uploads were getting lines thru the images. Which meant I had to manually reupload those. Taking ages and very annoying.

MicrostockSubmitter / First Impressions of Microstock Submitter
« on: October 29, 2013, 19:15 »
Hi,

Thanks to this forum I fell upon this piece of software and have been testing it out over the past couple of days. I found it a little confusing at first, mainly because I wasnt expecting it to be able to upload and submit.  It is a very powerful and fully featured product. I find uploads very reliable and I dont get the image failing on uploads I was seeing previously. Im not sure I trust the categorizing enough to submit and I find the submitting hit and miss. For example I uploaded 10 images to all my libraries (10 of them). They 95% uploaded but maybe only 25% actually submitted. All randomly across libraries. one did all and the others maybe 1 or 2. The application then crashed which probably upset the submission process.

Does anyone have any tips? Im thinking Ill not submit as it causes confusion. Just let the software upload. Mind you if I work out the right hand side of the software for categorising then it might be better. Seems risky letting it submit for you though.

General Stock Discussion / Re: My 6 month Stock Assessment
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:48 »
Haha thanks guys. All good discussion and I dont mind if it went off topic:)

I suppose I meant that it gives my photo taking added 'credibility' with the family. For example I got to go to Grand Canyon this year on our roadtrip from New Orleans to San Fran (from Australia). It allowed me to better validate getting up early and more of an excuse. But yes photos will never be the be all and end all with a young family. It just helps a bit. Plus it can also be used for tax reasons to a point. In my eyes of the family gets to travel a bit on photography (finances can add up), then I will take photos obviously:)

Thus far most of my images are fairly standard travel ones. Not that I think one can make money from that more than anything else, but more because images are sitting on my PC from the last 6 years doing nothing. At least now Im actively doing something about this and putting them out there. If they make $10 or $1000 over 5 years then so be it. I am fully aware I need to switch my mindset to more conceptual stuff to actually be successful. I however shoot weddings, portraits, music (http://filedimage.zenfolio.com/f815182337) so time is of the essence. I know that travel photography is what I love, as well as landscape and this is a good avenue of earning. My next step is making prints for local cafes etc. But thats just more time required...

General Stock Discussion / My 6 month Stock Assessment
« on: October 01, 2013, 23:17 »
Hi All,

6 months ago I decided to jump into stock seriously and read ltos about it and started applying for libraries. 6 months later I thought id give my results to see how others compare and I wanted to say thanks for all the help I have received on here. A great community.

I am signed up to ShutterStock, iStock, Alamy, PhotoDune, Veer, BigStock, Dreamstime, DepositPhotos, Fotolia, 123RF, Canstock and my own SymbioStock site just recently.

I have made around $1000 from approx 400 images online. Numbers range from 271 on Fotolia (worst for approving) to 470 on Dreamstime. Shutterstock is on 360 and by far my best selling library. I sold 448 images in September and both sales and revenue have been increasing at a static rate. I try to get 100 images a month submitted from my extensive library of mostly travel images.

ShutterStock is by far the biggest of my earners at about 60%. iStock is next with approx another 20%. The other libraries fill out the final 20% so not very good. I have been very diligent to fairly upload to all to get a fair comparison. ShutterStock kills it and with the recent increase to 0.33 a download I expect this to further improve. Scary reliance upon one library though.

As for where I want to go its tough. I will keep going and I get great satisfaction selling older images that were doing nothing. Selling a big $28.00 download is highly satisfying as it makes the effort at that point in time fully worthwhile. I have sold hundreds of images done whilst on a corporate job which has essentially doubled that income. Amazing. From a wage per hour point of view I wouldnt even want to contemplate. Its poor. Very poor. But, who knows how long these can sell for. Its essentially years of earnings and that per hour wage value will increase.

Probably one of the best outcomes is turning my wife around to the idea and being able to structure family holidays towards awesome travel photos. Always a struggle. She was totally against 25 cent stock but as numbers have increased she is slowly getting the point. Its not a per download problem, but more the quantity. The fact that Shutterstock is one of the worst payers but is 60% of my income proves this.

Its been fun

Thanks

StockUploader / Image Upload Issues - Truncation
« on: September 25, 2013, 21:23 »
Hi,

I am trying to get used to stock uploader and I find it works mostly well except that maybe every 4th image is truncated and I have to delete and reupload. This happens across all libraries. Is there a way to stop this. Its costing me a lot of time to sift thru what hasnt uploaded properly and what has

Symbiostock - General / New User Registration Spam
« on: September 02, 2013, 05:49 »
Since ive joined Symbiostock ive noticed a sudden increase in registrations. Obviously people have to sign up the site to purchase. Is there a way I can check this or should I be concerned? Can I do much to stop this. I had maybe 5 in 3 years just on Wordpress. Ive had 10 in a week since joining Symbiostock

Symbiostock - General / Re: Critique wanted - Am I over saturating?
« on: September 01, 2013, 20:21 »
I think your images look great. I personally use Lightroom and pretty much add punch preset and saturation to every image At thumbnail size it has to shine off the screen which yours do. No point selling flat images when you can boost them up

62
aha I see. I have that installed already and its great. Look forward to it

63
HI,

So sorry is this coming out in a future version of Symbiostock theme? If so ill wait too!

That version 1.9.9 is for the theme or a plugin?

Yopur site looks great and amazing customisation

64
Thanks a lot. Yep think we are pretty close to agreeing:) The system you have is good and better than I thought it would be. Mainly because when you apply the image category in 'quick edit' it appears next to be main category making it easy to apply.

I did one here:

http://www.filedimage.com/photography/image-type/australia-images/

Thanks

65
Just to confirm I dont want to go crazy with image categories. After a search from keywords of the image

Thanks

66
Hey,

thats exactly what im after. So how did you achieve that. Unless im missing the obvious from within Symbiostock

67
Does anyone know of a way ( I have Googled lots) of having a keyword search term in an image as an image category. I was hoping that under the 'cities' preset category I could have a further option for 'Chicago, London, Rome' etc So that the menu item would look at image keywords and return a gallery of images of that city. Not keen on setting up more image categories and having to mark off for every image and city ive been in.

Wow thanks for great detailed responses. My system in terms of stock (10 libraries) is to go thru my images and mark as flagged and green colour (had issues with just colours in past). I then upload equally to all libraries. No exclusive so thats easy.

My Zenfolio smart collections work entirely off combos of keywords. So when ive edited images for my stock libraries a London image would have 'europe, landscape' in its keywords. This is then added straight to my Zenfolio gallery. Its brilliant. I can make all kinds of changes and just sync perfectly

Obviously the Wordpress side is different, hence my asking. Its a very tricky thing getting this right because it has to be robust, backed up and applied from the start. At present  ill just upload to Symbio as I so for other stock. How I approve images is another matter, I average maybe a 75% so I wont upload images that have failed on most sites.

Hi,

Thanks for everyone's help thus far. Things working out well.

Currently I have Zenfolio really well setup with smart collections that I publish and everything auto uploads/deletes etc to Zenfolio from within Lightroom. Its great. Obviously Zenfolio has poor SEO and I want to join SymbioStock for the community it has. Not sure if its going to replace my Zenfolio (http://filedimage.zenfolio.com/), or supplement it. Ill decide in time:)

Does anyone have same dilemma and has any form of uploading from within Lightroom? I guess one can FTP from within Lightroom but I was kinda after some form of syncing with smart galleries. Like I have with Zenfolio.

Ah thanks for that. Of course. Once again i knew id seen it but couldnt remember where. So obviously that sets it to the side or footer as a widget. One would need  another plugin to make it display in main content?

Hi,

Thanks to help here and lots of research I have got this far in a couple of days:

http://www.filedimage.com/photography/

Lots of formatting and cleaning up to do. Had issues with watermark for ages but happy with it now. Kinda need to get it right first time.

Some quick questions if I may?

1.) Can someone recommend a recent uploads plugin for my home page. I want a quick spiel and recent uploads below that

2.) Im thinking Ill have small pictures with direct links to image categories. Obviosuly thats manual creating a table and adding images etc.

3.) If I want to change fonts, colours and the look of the search button that is done in the CSS of the theme right?

Believe it or not I used to make webpages. No doubt Wordpress makes this simple. Its just where to find options that is not intuitive at times. Then you add plugins and it confuses it more.

Alright ive taken the plunge. Setup the site and thrown some images for testing up. Will try and do all logos tonight. I was wondering if many are using the child theme or the official plugins and for site analysis etc. I see the sitemap tool looks great. Ther clean theme looks good too. Just wondering if people are sticking with base setup or going this.
