Wasn't all the wars what bankrupt the old USSR?
I thought low oil price did it

Why not get rid of the voting ?
I think the voting system is a great feature of this site.
It is very simple and powerful feedback mechanism.
I miss it very much on sites like FB. Where _anything_ can accumulate _positive_ likes with a time.

Alamy.com / Re: Check your opt out/in status - mine changed
« on: June 03, 2014, 15:58 »
I opted out of NU in April but had 8 NU sales in May. There is a thread on the Alamy forum about a sudden spate of NU sales and some speculation about them being old sales finally being recorded.
I've opted out in April 2013 and got the "Novel use" sale dated May 28,2014

I can definitely control my video files on Pond5 (including changing the price)
as opposite on Getty the only control I have is to end contract and get _all_  files deleted.
all other agencies are somewhere in between

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia D-Day (Deactivation Day) - May,1
« on: May 28, 2014, 14:25 »
Sorry if this  old 2011 email from fotolia was posted in the topic already
Quote
Over the last few months, we've seen new competitors offering pricing
and commission rates that are lower than our white ranking levels.
This is a threat to our business, for the market as whole, and for
you, our contributors. This is an issue that must be addressed for us
to remain competitive.

We have been obliged to modify our pricing and payment policies to
allow Fotolia to adjust prices/commissions on a case by case basis.
When a contributor sells on sites with significantly lower pricing and
commissions, we will reset their rank to white to allow for
competition.

Together, we'll work towards building a stronger stock photography
market, and continue to enhance Fotolia's reputation and
competitiveness as a leading microstock agency.

what about people who missed the email for any reason?
They are automatically in! This is a dirty trick
The participation should be in full consent with "I agree"

General Stock Discussion / "Free" images
« on: May 27, 2014, 21:33 »
the following link is good illustration of  general public understanding of "free" images  coming from stock http://blog.bufferapp.com/free-image-sources-list
Who will really read license terms of those FREE images

I just took a look at this. If you go to Behind The Scenes on your account and click on Premium Features you get details of your account with an Update Credit Card button. I tried it and got to a page where I could ammend (or remove, I presume) my card details then hit save. To be fair, I didn't actually go through this procedure, so maybe it blocks you from removing if you actually try it? But it should work, despite what you were told! Try that and let us know what happens. Regards, David.

ETA I have used that feature to update my card details a few weeks back and that certainly worked fine.
you can not override your CC with zeros or some random number they have verification after you submit, so old number stays until you provide new valid one

110
there is no way to remove a Credit Card from FAA by yourself
you need to contact their support (or close the account completely)
And if you doing it in advance you loose some (paid already) benefits
Their functionality needs some upgrade

111
I deleted my credit card from their site
trying to remove my credit card - looks like it is impossible without contacting their support

General Stock Discussion / Re: Time for a new startup?

I think we always have to keep uploading to newcomers with fair conditions. ..
as long as they guarantee [written in contract] to keep the conditions

I don't think that is true. I'm always on the look out for some small but good selling agencies. They don't have to make an impact on the market to make an impact on my wallet.
I  don't know a way to check if small agency is good seller except uploading my work to many small agencies and watch them. Very time consuming and not effective so I tend to ignore them.

I don't think that Microstock landscape change can be made by some new start-up company starting from the bottom.

Some major player [like Google] entering the market and changing rules/concept - can.

So you need big money to invest and really fresh approach.

the 90% to the contributor or allowing out-of-focus-over-filtered images will not make you a new Microstock place  to go

is there a way to see who are the biggest contributors presented on the DPC and try to ask them if they aware?

will it be considered impolite?

announce exclusivity I'd see no wrong. (mass exodus)

Thats my first idea, too and i think this is the next big step.
exclusivity is a way to stagnation

Alamy.com / switch alamy's Novel Use off
« on: April 29, 2014, 14:33 »
Just a reminder that you can switch off alamy's Novel Use only in April of each calendar year.
You still have time if you want to do it this year.

isn't MS just a one of the Global World reflections?
it is objective and natural

the boycott will bring more publicity for Getty, free advertisement about them providing free content, who cares about those "starving" London photographers, except other photographers

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - higher prices
« on: February 19, 2014, 10:54 »
will not resume uploading as long as their subscription is lower than [also not not so high] $.38 of SS

121
My personal experience is:
Getty is not going after RF infringements, after RM infringements in Blogs/social media, after infringement in countries different from US and few others
They are going only after very straight forward cases promising big $. Think their costs & benefits

122
some numbers here sounds more like a hobby, and I guess can be legally handled through Premier or even Individual account but sure, just ignore my comments then

123
You can certainly have more than 2 PayPal accounts.
but no more then one "Personal"

124
The most of POD services dont really care about copyright. Because ignoring the issue bring them content and money. And their business can run  in cheap  automatic mode. They assume that contributors submit only their own copyright work. And they even take any work down if you send them DMCA notice.
Thats why all POD sites are crammed with tons of badly traced copies of Somebody Else's intellectual properties. It is not feasible for individual artist to pursue all copyright infringements on POD sites using DMCA notice mechanism. And if the thieves are not from US you cant get them any other way

125
Just curious if anyone's gotten a 1099 from paypal yet.  I have two accounts, neither of which met their stated threshold for getting a 1099 for 2012, but I got them for both accounts anyway.
BTW You can have one Personal account and one Premier or Business account
but not two Personal. can be a big trouble for you if found by PP
