LuckyOliver.com / News on PayPal for paying Photographers
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:51 »
Hi all,

I just e-mailed LO support to ask about when they plan to start using paypal for paying photographers. Within 5 minutes I got the reply:

Michael-
We'll probably have something in place before the end of March.  Thanks!

Bryan

Definitely soon enough for me, given my current sale rate :-)

All the best,
Michael

Microstock Monitor / Microstock Monitor: Some Statistics so far
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:42 »
Hi all!

Let me share with you some statistics. Microstock Monitor was so far downloaded 118 times by unique users, based on my web server logs. I do hope that there are as many satisfied users of the software.

Microstock Monitor was also mentioned in some blogs - many thanks!

From today on it is also available through google search. That was awefully quick. I think the blog entries and the exposure from Microstock Group (thanks Tyler!) really helped it to get indexed fast in Google.

Please spread the word friends. As you notice given the frequent feature additions, I'm quite hooked with the implementation and I'm already thinking about many new nice features to add.

All the best and many thanks so far,
Michael

ps: Please spread the word! If you do so please feel free to post in this forum about your efforts. I will love to read about them and this is heavily appreciated.

All the best,
Michael

Hi jjneff,

cool work. Gotta apply at iStock for Video as well - seems to run better there than on Shutterstock.

fotolia is really starting to happen for me now. SS is by far the seller, but getting them to accept anything is a nightmare. For me, I still use DT as my benchmark.

That's strange. For me I'm getting ~90% acceptance rate with SS. Dreamstime and Fotolia are easy too, but not as easy as SS. The only agency which constantly rejects my photos for "Please submit better quality photos" is StockXpert. Dunno why they don't like my shots.

All the best,
Michael

Hi Tyler,

I've been having 48 videos online for 3 months or so. Got 1 sale so far. Doesn't sound like much, but that single one got me 50 USD ... .

However, my focus is still on taking photos...

General Stock Discussion / Re: What site does Rinder review at??
« on: February 18, 2007, 13:43 »
Hi all,

without looking like a fanboy - I've also always appreciated Rinder's posts. He even took the time to e-mail me some information personally.

He tries to teach, however, not everyone can appreciate that (I know that out of my own experience - my daughter :-)).

All the best,
Michael

Hi!

Ahhh...I see. These are supposed to be the number of your photos which have been downloaded by customers at these agencies. I.e., the number of the photos which you sold.

Are the correct?

Many thanks,
Michael

183
Hi!

Many thanks. What exactly do you mean by "download numbers were off". Do you mean a) They didn't show ("ToDo" instead) or b) that they were wrong (if yes, for which agency?).

I've not implemented current downloads yet, because I got no downloads with those agencies and therefore don't know the format which they use...

Many thanks for using Microstock Monitor,
Michael

StockXpert.com / Re: New rejection reasons
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:55 »
They have not been too picky on what I submit. Not as picky as Dreamstime thats for sure. Occasionally I will resubmit a photo/illustration they decline because I thought it was good enough and the 2nd time some are accepted.
Most of my submissions are illustrations so noise is never an issue.

I agree, they are accepting 80-90% of my illustrations / computer renderings. It's just my photos with which I have no success at all exclusively with them.

All the best,
Michael

StockXpert.com / Re: New rejection reasons
« on: February 18, 2007, 09:52 »
Hi Tyler,

wow, looks like they are getting piiiii-cky.
what camera were they taken with?  Could it have something to do with the image size?

I'm using a Canon Powershot S3 for these photos and the photo size is 6 MP. I'm not going DSLR yet, because I like the compactness, as I travel a lot.

With a DSLR I'd get better glass, but as I said...these photos are doing fine on dreamstime, shutterstock and were even (succesfully) used for applying at iStockPhoto. So I think the glass of the Canon is ok...

All the best,
Michael

StockXpert.com / Re: New rejection reasons
« on: February 18, 2007, 08:48 »
I don't know...I don't think that stockXpert is compatible with my photos :-). Any photo which I upload there gets rejected with the "please submit higher quality pictures" reason. First I was a bit angry about this. However, every other agency which I work with (shutterstock, fotolia, dreamstime, ...) mostly accepts these photos and they are selling fine there. Most ironically stockXpert recently rejected photos for the "please submit higher quality pictures" which I (succesfully) used to apply at iStockPhoto ...

I'm not talking about 10 or 20 photos here. They rejected about 300-400 when I initially uploaded my portfolio to them, mostly for the "please submit higher quality pictures" reason.

These are some of the shots which they recently rejected for the "please submit higher quality" reason:

I still upload to them, because it is a very quick and easy process (FTP the files in, and usually they get rejected within 1 hour), but it's more for amusement than for doing business ;-)

All the best,
Michael

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Future Big 5
« on: February 18, 2007, 05:39 »
Hi!

I think it will be:
- Shutterstock
- Dreamstime
- Fotolia
- Bigstockphoto
- StockXpert / Lucky Oliver

I've signed up to both stockxpert and bigstockphoto at about the same time (about 1 mounth ago). StockXpert's recent rejection rate makes it a worse performer than Bigstockphoto for me.

I just signed up with iStock - so I can't do any predictions for them yet. But the fact that they make uploading hard for photographers makes me think that they won't be in the top 3 in the future.

All the best,
Michael

Hi Opla,

Great guy, learned a lot from his posts at ss. Shame he doesn't post here anymore.

Just curious, was there a special reason why rinder doesn't post here anymore?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi!

Thanks...I managed to edit one of my posts but the other keeps giving me debug errors. I'll try again tomorrow.

Anyways...time to get back on-topic I guess. Did anyone test the new release of Microstock Monitor, in particular the rf123 and featurepics support?

Thanks,
Michael

Microstock Monitor / Microstock Monitor: Is this safe?
« on: February 17, 2007, 12:27 »
Hi all,

some people expressed their concern whether Microstock Monitor is safe to use. I fully respect this, since many photographers do extraordinary work and have very valuable portfolios.

In order to react to these concerns, I've spend the better part of the day to write a guide which enables anyone to monitor and control any connections which are attempted by Microstock Monitor (or any other windows program).

You can find this guide in a new section of the Microstock Monitor website:
http://microstockmonitor.unfolded.com/index.php?pr=Is_this_safe?

Please note that Microstock Monitor is a hobby of me. I do not run a business or anything else. I have a full time day job which has nothing to do with Microstock Monitor. On this site I did my best to enable you to guarantee that Microstock Monitor is safe. If you are still not feeling secure with using it, then please don't use it.

All the best,
Michael

Best luck! They are though to get into but make the most money for me.

All the best,
Michael

Thanks...I tried, but I'm getting SQL errors when I try to edit my posts in this thread.

Hi!

Shutterstock doesn't allow photographers <18 either. There was a thread in their forums recently about that.

Michael

Hi!

Ok! I'll work on a section on my website which is dedicated to this issue.

Edit: The section is here and was announced in a dedicated thread in this forum.

Michael

Hi all,

after another motivated evening of coding, I'm happy to announce that versoin 1.2 of Microstock Monitor is available. It got support for RF123 and Featurepics! It only displays the balance at the moment and not the current downloads. I'm not sure if they have a concept of "current downloads", as I did not have any sale there yet *g*.

Can you guys please head over to http://microstockmonitor.unfolded.com and test the new version? I'm really looking forward to your feedback.

Ah ... and if you don't contribute to any of the supported agencies yet, but plan to, please consider using the links from inside Microstock Monitor or from my website. This will make me your referer and might give me a little compensation for developing and maintaining Microstock Monitor.

Let me know how this new release works for you.

All the best,
Michael

Microstock Monitor / Re: Introducing Microstock Monitor

Hi Adelaide,

that's very reasonable of you. From my side I can only guarantee you that I have the best intentions. I hope that user reports will convince you that Microstock Monitor is safe.

All the best,
Michael

Hi Kngkyle,

which agencies allow you to work with them at 17?

Thanks,
Michael

Featurepics.com / Re: Featurepics - which license are you using?
« on: February 17, 2007, 02:39 »
Hi!

Hmm...maybe my prices are too low and people therefore think that the photos are lower quality ;-)

(I'm currently selling at 1 Dollar / Photo).

Michael

many thanks for your input. Does Microstock Monitor work for your Fotolia account?

Many thanks,

Microstock Monitor / Re: Introducing Microstock Monitor
« on: February 16, 2007, 17:31 »
Hi!

Can you try to log out of fotolia.co.uk and see if they still redirect you?

If yes, then they are redirecting you based on your IP, which means that there is no way around this.

With my fotolia.com login I can login at fotolia.co.uk without any problems. I don't know if it also works the other way around.

If the login works both ways, then it might still be that the fotolia.co.uk page uses a different layout than the fotolia.com page and that this confuses Microstock Monitor.

Maybe you can ask in the general forum if there is a way for a fotolia.co.uk user to use fotolia.com?

All the best,
Michael
