Good idea, I will be adding the Sym network search also!

Well, I'm hoping, maybe a bit naively that Sym takes off at least a little. If we can sell enough images a month from say $6 for a blog to say $50 for a large then it would not take many to replace selling hundreds for .25. At that point I could see people going Sym exclusive as they would be undercutting themselves by offering their images all over the place. For that to happen we need clients to use a centralized Sym search. This would be a snowball effect. As more photographers come on board Sym gets larger. As more photographers make their images Sym exclusive the the less places the images are available the more clients will come. Granted this may never happen or it may take years but if it starts working and other photographers come on board you basically have a large stock photo site owned by each individual photographer without having to pay any commissions.

Always nice to dream....

Thanks Shazam for taking the time to explain the search, but alas I think that is way too complicated to use daily. We need an easy search mechanism on the administration side of things to keep things easy and moving along.

I understand the need for a simpler way of modifying batches of images, but at this time there isn't one.

In addition, when someone posts a question, there is no way to know their technical expertise (or lack thereof).  So I provided the info for those that have the technical knowledge (whether it would be you or someone else that reads this thread later).

PS Where do you enter this Database search info, certainly NOT the "Search Images" in the Dashboard's Royalty Free Images tab.

You would enter the statement in your MySQL database (which is usually available from your hosting service via a phpMyAdmin front end application).

Ah, thanks for explaining that. Certainly a bit more convoluted than it needs to be for the average user here.

General Stock Discussion / Re: light room move folder
« on: August 18, 2013, 12:14 »
Not sure of the differences between a Mac and a PC so I'll respond on what I know, Mac.

You can drag the entire folder from within LR to the new location. If it does not move, check the read/write permissions of the folder you are trying to move it to and make sure you have read/write permission, not just read.

You can also drag the folder in the finder, but LR will lose it. You would then need to right click on the folder in LR and tell it the updated location of the folder. Doing it within LR is the preferred method.

So my first request is to show MR info with the images as clients NEED to know.

I guessing (hoping) with so many reporting 0 sales since last night that images are selling but there is currently a glitch in their system of reporting the sales. Hopefully we'll all of a sudden get a bunch of sales listed at once. (fingers crossed)

I can't figure out a way to bulk add that there is a release for a number of images. If anyone knows a way please let me know, if not, this is a VERY important feature request.

To add to this. I marked an image as Model Released in the administration area but cannot find it anywhere on the client side. I've looked at people on a few other Sym sites and and again could not find any MR info showing. Any ideas?

SHAZAM!!!! THANKS!!!! That "tool" was the key. As with LesPalenik they kept saying it was installed. As soon as I had the "tool" to show them it wasn't installed the online chat escalated it. Woke up this morning to an e-mail saying he installed it. Sure enough it shows in Symbiostock as being used!!!!

Thanks to Shazam getting somewhere. With the script in hand I could show them it was not installed. Imagemagick is installed but the module was not. They are working on getting the module installed. To be continued.

Shazam... Thanks for the info!!! Finally getting somewhere. That code is very cool and unfortunately it shows ImageMagick is NOT listed. So now I have to figure out how to get it installed etc.

After weeks I still can't get it to work :'(
WebHostingHub says it's installed and working and I need to talk to the Theme Developer.
I would think it has to be a php.ini thing, but have tried many variations to no avail.

Above was stated changing the setting to php single in the cPanel. When I go to the PHP Configuration tab, I only have 4 popup options. PHP 5.2, 5.3 5.4, 5.5. I have it running 5.3. There is no single option anywhere.

I think the tech is getting close. Seems part was not loaded by default. Was told to do the following but got errors so tech is looking at it.

1. Login into your cPanel.
2. Go to Software / Services > Perl Modules.
3. In the Find a Perl Module box type "Image" and click Go.
4. You can find ImagMagick in the list and disable and enable it in there.

« on: August 02, 2013, 14:47 »
I was on GoDaddy but got tired of all the upsells. I did some investigating and moved to WebHostingHub a few years ago and if memory serves they went down once since then. Very happy. The only problem is I can't figure out how to get imagick (ImageMagick) to work.

I still need more of an explanation.

Is this replacing wordpress?
What about our plug-ins and widgets?
Will this require a rebuilding our sites from scratch?

Same here as I have zero idea where to start. Do I download something etc?

Hey everyone. I still have some link room and only have 4 links coming in so I figured I'd send a request for some more linking.
I have almost 1200 images online including some exclusive ones.
Images are travel, people, sports, conceptual, food, interiors, architecture, lifestyle, beauty plus others.

My site is:  http://landwehrle.com/stockphotography/
Symbiocard is:   http://landwehrle.com/stockphotography/symbiocard.csv

thanks!

Actually being tired out of my mind, I think I'm going to release the batch operator by Friday, since I can't seem to push myself any more due to fatigue.

You will like it :D

Yes, mass price changes are possible with what you have now in the "Author Options" area.

Glad to hear about the batch operator!

The problem with changing it in the author area is it appears that it would also change the other settings which I do not want to do. It is preset to be Not Exclusive, Live, 2nd etc and there is no way to turn them to ignore so those setting don't change.

Just ran into another need for better batch operations. i'd like to change the price of all of my images. As it is currently set up I cannot do it as it would also change other settings such as exclusive which I do not want to alter. So another reason for improved batch operations!

....

The only thing is it is not what I was suggesting. I need a better way to find files to organize into categories on the administration side. If i search for landscape in the client side of my site I get hundreds of images because I've used the keyword landscape. If I search for it in the administration side I only get 16 because it is only searching the description, unless I'm missing something. If this is included in the Premium site option or a paid plug in I have no problem with either as it is a small price to pay for all of the work involved.

yes, that is a feature of the bulk edit in the premium version - and you can display 200 or more images on one page, then select and edit

Awesome, sign me up!

.....

Improved searching options, i.e. search by category AND/OR keyword AND/OR exclusive AND/OR original filename etc, not just by description/title.
Improved sorting options, including being able to see and sort by the original filename.
....

these are good features -- when we have 500,000 images -- right now, it's a rare search that comes up with more than 100-200 results

even if you do a 'silly' search like 'beautiful woman' the results are manageable --these are 2 of the most used keywords  with 13,000 and 12,000 results in the global search http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=401
but the combination gives just 3000 images and eliminating similar you get about 500 with 2500 similar

so even for this extremely broad search the results are reasonable.  the search is getting better, but at this point i'd place it lower on the list of priorities  (right now sym is competitive with SS -- for 'bald soprano', sym gives 0 and SS gives only 1 result!)

You missed the point. This is on the administration side of the site. We need these kind of searches to be able to manage the images. Even with 1000 images it is already unwieldy.

sorry, missed that -- you didn't say admin -- I keep a spreadsheet with all my keywords, captions, etc so it's easily searchable

http://symbiostock-search.com does let you examine all keywords, by frequency, alphabetically, etc across all sites and for specific sites

Actually I did split the suggestion into two parts and even stated it there although I called it the "client side" and the "processing/organization side of things" which I guess I should have simply called the "administration side" instead.

Yes I love that search function!!! Excellent job.
