I think that $100 is too much for them to hang on to. Yes, it is in their terms, so you really don't have much to go on. But they should consider lowering that mainly because it takes so long for many to even achieve $100.  Its just stingy. Most contributors don't quit correctly, though. Know the terms and them quit after you reach your threshold.  I know that's too late but just for others' future reference who don't know better.

They really do need to decrease it to like ... $25 I don't think I've even sold anything there in a month or so.

It's pretty clear when you sign up what the threshold is ... thresholds are everywhere. Even Google won't pay out under $100 through adsense. Read the * messages when you sign up.

When you pull up at the ATM (not sure what you'd call that where you live, a machine to dispense funds) Does it let you pull out $5? No, it doesn't because those machines cost money, transfers cost money, and money in the account makes money ... If you had a savings account with 100 dollars in it, that doubles in a year. Would you withdraw it for $10?

With that said, even if you pull your IRA or something they'll pay it but, you'll take a penalty

Um, how about the signed document stating that you are now the copyright owner provided by the original shooter as you said in the OP?  Why is this confusing?  You said in your OP that you had the document they are asking for - just send them that.

I never said I had any document. What I wanted to know is how other composite photographers source and obtain ownership of their images and what kind of experiences they run into. The OP is hypothetical.

If you're doing a composition I don't think that microstock has any license that allows the image for direct resale, in your example ... placing an isolated person in front of a photo of the London bridge and marketing that as your own work is going to be frowned upon, and depending on the license possibly illegal.

Your best bet is A)Take your own photo B)Have someone who lives in London go and take a photo of the bridge give it to you and take no ownership.

Totally gotta diffuse your lighting a bit too. I bought quite fruit and veggie files a while back and though I love avocados, this would not be the image that I'd be putting in any publication or ... really anything that I wanted mine or a client's name on.

https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/five-avocados-isolated-on-white-background-604563089?src=hTW49e1SaFFeuWkWnrxcfQ-1-65

And that's not to say that it's a poor photo but, the harsh shadows are ... sinister ... Like, the avocado has a plot and bodies in it's basement ... :/

1. No, there is no point in deleting images.
2. No point working with just one subject unless it sells really well (for now).
3. It is normal for a beginner and for a seasoned contributor. Some work just misses the target.

To 3.:

But if my work missed the target, wouldn't there just some views but no buyers?
I think nobody ever saw my content, if its good or not....

It's been seen as a thumbnail around hundreds of other similars. Nobody is clicking on it because there are hundreds of other similars.

I don't see anything that I wouldn't buy persay but, it's quite different when shopping ... I'm generally just looking for the image to convey an idea as efficiently as possible.

I wouldn't delete anything ... sometimes it takes them a few years to sell but, eventually it may make a few bucks. Just keep shooting and maybe try to diversify a bit.

Incredibly easy ... when people purchase just write a cookie ... Ever been shopping on Amazon and then see the ads for the same item on Facebook?

Not when you're spending hundred of $ for a clip.
When you're looking for something of 100$ value do you just click on the first ads choice? I don't think so.

And you're talking about manipulation from the buyers point of view. This is absolutely normal, it's marketing.
Manipulate the contributor side is a completly different thing.

If it's something that I'm in the market for, you're * right I click the ad.

Then explain me, why we see in three year analysis number of sold files per month slowly rising with number of uploaded footage, and those sold files per month are always in +-10 %. We've never seen one month being sold 10 files, and another 100. There is always between 50-70 files sold. This is clearly their capping system that gives priority for some factors we don't know yet.

This means nothing, it's perfeclty obvious that on long terms the numbers tend to be more stable, much more than day by day numbers.

Another important thing is that your assumption means that agency changes clips ratings in search results to adjust number of sells and earnings.
But the assumption has no strong basis: maybe for photo a buyer stops on first page and choose the image paying few pennies, but I don't think that this works for someone who spend hundred of dollars. This person will probably search very well and deep before buying a clip.
So it would be quite impossible for agency to push some clips and change the buyer direction in easy "search results" way.

Incredibly easy ... when people purchase just write a cookie ... Ever been shopping on Amazon and then see the ads for the same item on Facebook?

They're just capping lower contribution margin sales, grocery stores do this by moving things in the store, like the $1 or whatever they keep from subs isn't as nice as the on demand buys, ELs and stuff ... and they have to toss smaller contributors some quarters to keep them playing the game.

They've got these numbers down to a science, you can be goddamn sure that they're capping sales and changing search all day every day. Much the same way airlines adjust ticket prices daily ...

In fact, if you've been in business for a few years ... you probably know your breakeven, contribution margins, and possibly even have those broken down by category.

These threads are always a bit depressing. On one hand I kind of want to sort, keyword and upload images and hope to get enough to get some monthly payouts ... A few per month alone would cover my fixed costs and everything else is nearly profit but, then I get on msg and start doubting the thought ... The quarters per day aren't really worth it. :/

copyrights protect artistic works (drawings, paintings, literature, photos, movies, etc). they do not protect anything that has utility (the shape of a guitar). guitars are not creative works. guitar shapes are NOT protected by copyright.

trademarks protect brand names and sources of manufacture or services. they do NOT protect guitar shapes.

the image should not have been rejected.

uhm ... doesn't Coca Cola have a trademark/copyright on THE SHAPE OF THE EFFING BOTTLE?! Are you just going around arguing copyrights and trademarks with everyone? Are you a lawyer?

General Stock Discussion / Re: about fonts using!
« on: May 20, 2017, 15:35 »
Do as you please as long as they are not editable fonts but outlines. If this is a vector illustration make sure to say that they are on a separate layer/group, in case someone wants change it into another font.

Most of the micros tell you to NOT use layers.

And yes, while there are some free fonts out there, you might want to check the readme. Some are outright free, some are free for private use with an additional fee for commercial use or whatever, so on and so forth.

Best bet, if you didn't buy the font, come by it legitimately, or it came with your system, then you shouldn't have it anyway. Font design is kind of like microstock in a way. They just kind of sit there and make these delicate, complicated little art words and then give it to the world and hope it sells. (Though, they've never really stooped down to our penny per barrel type market, I'd imagine that the good type designers are doing quite well, except the dead ones.)

you can use standard fonts. You just need to convert them to outlines.

Standard fonts (what do you call standard fonts?*) are free to use but are they free to use when you get some profit of their use?

I think you can use any font that you have licensing to. I have quite a few illustrations with text in them.

Be sure to outline the font though. It will be declined if you don't.

Been shooting Saturn all week. I've got about ... 300 terrible shots of that ... I should call up National Geographic.

on the same note. I'm about to take a piss, and I notice that the bowl has a pool of water in it. While my urine falls into there it breaks the hydrogen bond and creates somewhat of a splitter and a splash. I should video that in slow motion.

267
holy crap?! Is this the same topic from like ... a few months ago with the water and surface tension? I'm honestly going to put some water on a * spoon tomorrow, and shoot it. I didn't realize that those shots were worth $100.

I'm considering contacting some magazines and book publishers with an image of mine that has some scientific interest. Obviously, I would like to receive payment for the publication of this image. However, I do know there's always the chance that your image may end up getting published for free. For example, there is an Australian science magazine that accepts content without payment. And once I submitted an article and photo of mine to a newspaper and I was under the assumption that I would get paid (if the work got published.) I never got a reply from the paper but they did publish my work without payment.

As such, I'm a little reluctant about submitting my image upon my first / initial contact with the publication. So what would be the best approach here? Give a description of the photograph (and explain what makes it special) in the initial e-mail and state that I would be happy to negotiate on a price when I send the image? Or alternatively, send a low resolution image complete with watermark in the first e-mail, negotiate a price and then send the full res image later on? Or should I simply send the full res image straight away and say I'm happy to negotiate a price?

By the way, there was a very small magazine that I used to submit articles and photos to a number of years ago. They only paid for the articles (and a very small amount too.)

I wouldn't expect much compensation especially from newspapers with a lot of content submissions from readers/locals, if they've got a "letters to the editor" don't expect anything. I would definitely get an article and supporting photographs together, and then contact the editor or publisher with your idea and explain what you want to be compensated. If you just send it to them they'll just publish it with COURTOUSY/YOUR NAME.

I still send my photos to the local paper and get a few in per year. I used to work there though, so that might help.

In normal circumstances you'd throttle or shut off a country if they are trying to attack the site in some way. But, in microstock circumstances .. they could be throttling or blocking to slow down submissions or thefts ... as well as the regular brute force attacks.

Also, exchange rates are different for each country anyway but, also worth noting is that different imagery will perform differently for each ... so it's quite possible that they would do it to maximize profit as well.

I think most hosting services have a blocking mechanism, and ... wordfence? In WordPress does as well I believe. It's pretty handy if you've got a small store and only ship things inside the US or something just to shut everything else off.

ISPs and media providers do this garbage all the time. Throttle down the higher usage user so that some stupid child can watch hentai. Meanwhile I'm sitting here staring at an upload ready to throw my goddamn computer through the window.

Adobe Stock / Re: Call for content

Hello All,

Not a week goes by where I'm not asked at least once what type of content Adobe Stock is looking for. The general, catch-all answer is that regardless of the subject matter, buyers are looking for authenticity. Real looking people in real situations with genuine expressions and interactions.

That remains true and I expect it always will. That being said, a more specific list of content needs and requests has been generated. If you are looking for some motivation on what to shoot next..look no further than the list linked below....

 https://adobe.ly/2pdvHeB

That's funny ... I was out on rainy old monday and had decided I'd shoot textures. So I shot some tree bark and stuff, I don't think I put them in the folder to upload though ... and here is bark on the list. I'll have to give it a go.

Double post, so while I was out today I kept the list of needed content in my mind but, there are tons of pretty similar images in there already. I'm thinking this is more of a ploy to keep us submitting fresh stuff than an actual need of content.

The list states they also look for all kinds of cars, rv's etc. but when you submit these (I do a lot of vintage cars photography), with brands etc. removed they are almost always rejected for Intellectual Property Violation.....

Did you have the car sign a model release?

i dont want hints for the old cam :)
It`s not the best however i use it.
iso 100 - 800
raw

"My lumix made noise pictures and on the edges even worse."

What ISO did you use and what aperture? Do you shoot in RAW or JPG?
If you downsize your photos, you can improve the visible image quality to some extent (reduce noise).
Your camera can shoot in RAW. If you shoot in RAW in decent light, use some noise reduction in post-processing, then noise should not be a problem at all.
Without seeing some samples, we won't be able to help you much more probably. Your camera is from 2013, it should not be that bad for daylight photos.

Yeah, you shouldn't have had much noise at all ... maybe a poor sensor or something.

Anyway, like someone mentioned above, you can get a pretty good body and lens for under $600, or possibly even a kit if you go looking about. All the Nikon amateur kits are right in that range, and the semi-pro bodies I think all just went down in price. I'd imagine you could pick up a decent semi-pro body for 200-300 and then spend 200-300 on a couple lenses and be on the right path.

I got the mail but no credit were added  :(

Did you check the menu at the left? In the "MY CREDITS" part you can see all of your sales and transactions. It shows the date and says "Positive adjustment" and the credit added too.

Oh, lol. +.28

It all helps I guess.

Got this today:

Dear contributor,

We'd like to inform you that we added credits to your account today after discovering a technical issue that made it necessary to make a positive adjustment to your account.  The underlying issue was limited in nature and has been fully resolved.

We take our commitments to our contributors very seriously. We sincerely apologize, appreciate your partnership, and look forward to seeing new content contributions from you. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to  contact our Support team
.

Anyone else, or was it just my account?  I have zero idea how much was involved since I don't check my balances that often.

I log in almost every day and couldn't really see what the difference was. Figured they'd charged me too many for something. idk.
