Doesn't look so i impressive when you look at the longer term chart.
https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=SSTK#symbol=SSTK;range=5y

What caused that huge drop during mid-august of 2015?

Adobe Stock?

I only clicked on this thread to figure out if it was about garden tools.  :'(

Not on the list but, my lcd is pretty much useless when it's bright out and it's difficult to tell what some of the settings are.

You could try warping it out in Photoshop, if your shots are all similar you could even create an action to do it for you ... I'd be inclined to downsample it quite a bit before submitting afterward though but, idk ... get a ladder and a taller tripod ...

Wow, that was incredibly prompt. Fiverr support is taking care of it.

I've been getting quite a bit of photo editing work through Fiverr recently but, it's about ... once a day or so that I run in to something like this and can't find a simple way to report it (the intellectual property support thing asks a bunch of questions about, copyright and trademark). Where this is not only unethical, immoral and against the ToS of all parties involved. It's also illegal in most countries, seems like there should just be a simple way to have an admin take one second of their day to look at it. Maybe someone up there in the chain of supporty type things can find a solution.

I haven't even tried to sell anything there yet because I mostly do silly illustrations n stuff but, that really is about as good as most of the microstock deals that we're getting ... and I was really hoping that 500px wouldn't really take the micro route and be ... well kind of a bridge ... like an array of micro to spectacular ...

I love the community there though, and they've now introduced some contests which might get me out shooting more ...

I don't know, I do stupid drawings ... would it make sense to submit my not-amateur-just-not-pro photos to just 500px? I mean, only a few purchase per month is still a decent payout right?

So far, model and content releases have been nearly too big of a pain to even worry about photos, I mean some group shots of the kids even doing something ... marketable ... like easter or something ... would take at least a day to sort photos, edit photos, fill out releases, upload photos, tag and keyword photos ... and that's being generous to most of these websites ... around half the time I give up on the slow *insult removed* and move along ...

Honestly, it's sometimes cool to check the emails and see that I've gotten a few bucks here or there but, to be honest guys ... It's ... dead ...

(however, for the first month in like four months 123rf got sales ... that sinking ship sucked in like $.53 this month, let's be optimistic about that)

So like ... not that I needed a real reason to delete my portfolio or anything but, you're going to let the contributors bear all of the weight of poor reviews over a copyright issue? I'm not entirely sure who this company is (though I think I've seen that on soy sauce before) ... your agency, reviewers and other employees need to bear as much of the weight of this as any single person. That's ridiculous.

Dear Contributors,

In light of the above, 123RF would like to inform all our Contributors to not submit any content containing or pertaining to Kikkoman products and design.

Content comprised of or containing Kikkoman Bottle and Cap Design, the wording KIKKOMAN, the Hexagon and Kanji Design, and other registered elements used in connection with Kikkomans products, should not be submitted, and be removed if previously submitted without any delay. Also note that full responsibility will be beared by the Contributor should any of their content are still available, displayed and available for licensing on 123RF after this notification should Kikkoman decides to take further legal action.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Good Companies To Start With?

Fotolia seems to be on the rise ... having a couple quarters rolling in is good motivation ... I guess ...

337
October - winter is coming + it`s the end of daylight saving time in Europe, so everyone is depressed.

it is also the date of the discovery of America, not sure if you heard about this indigenous curse made by the Incas on stock photographers of the XXIst century

Halloween, October 31st ... People are spending so much on decorations and candy in preparation that they can't possibly spare a quarter for the image on their blog.

fotolia is on fire

Fotolia has pretty much been my #1 since re-uploading there ... (I closed my account during the boycott, and went back after the Adobe deal)

I think that's going to be my goal from now on. Drive posts off topic. We've already covered every microstock topic at least a dozen times to the point where the off topic responses are more interesting.

Sounds like someone already has their new years resolutions in place.

you cant make any assumptions as difydave already correctly said. you will become a technically better photographer but not a better photographer per se because stock photography is limiting the photographs to adhere to the standards set out by the agency. famous photos sold for millions at auctions would never have been accepted by stock agencies

On that same token, most designers in groups that I follow have begun steering clear of the stock agencies because the photos are "too stocklike" or "crappy stock photographs", with many of the higher paid designers and agencies even hiring or contracting a photographer, it takes me a bit by surprise that they reject any technically correct photo. Silly on the agencies part really ...

Contracting photographers for high end campaigns is exactly what they should have been doing all along.  Foolish to think mass produced images would be right for every situation.  But to say micro is crap is only because recently the top sites are accepting more crap and pushing it to the front of searches.

Obviously, however ...

With the pricing structure and licensing deals they've set up though it kind of seems like they've branded them self "purposfully" into groups like ... (honest one's who actually pay for images) bloggers, scrapbookers, the dying newspaper industry and ... very poor designers who are trying to just trying to make enough to buy a cup of coffee themselves. lol.

and it keeps falling ... Even without a subscription getting a small blog sized image for a buck or less? Hard to understand why there are so many thieves but ... easy to see why the market keeps "sinking".

General Stock Discussion / Re: Holiday slump
« on: December 30, 2015, 21:52 »
I'm not sure what is happening, but I had 15 sales on the 25th and another 15 today, all non christmas related editorials.
My port is really small and I'm quite new to this business, so it might be some noise, or maybe editors are burning their annual budget and stocking up for next year

lol. I purchased a photo of a guy texting, and another of a woman being pulled over.

Both for a news related blog, both small from fotolia (as for some reason them and dreamstime are the only sites that allow me to use my earnings for purchases)

I've slowed illustrating down a ton, still getting a sale or two a week and the blogs have been making a buck or so a week ... I might illustrate more in 2016 but, not sure. Fotolia has jumped to at least on par with Shutterstock for my silly little things and waking up to a few extra quarters never hurts ... especially when you have nothing else to do.

Well, if it's any benefit to any of you ... I have purchased 2 photos in the past week or so. lol

I didn't like the concept of Symbiostock, everyone hosting their own site but I gave it a shot anyway and I never really liked it.  Having a single site that is majority owned by contributors would interest me.

I liked the idea of it significantly more than anything that's actually come of it ... I'm staying with the Leo version or moving to another platform but, I will not jump into Robin's boat ... dude hasn't been very honest right from the onset and doesn't really seem interested in supporting contributors or standing behind his product. The only reason most people installed Symbio to begin with was the community and the support from Leo ... with that gone well ... let's just say that it's a different project all together.

They were no more refugees - or Muslims - than I'm a fish if I swim in the sea.

So-called IS has seen the easy way to panic receiving countries by having false refugees staging attacks, to make it more difficult for people to escape from their strongholds.

What I would like to know (but I wouldn't like endless speculation and theories) is where all their money is coming from, and indeed from where they get their weapons. Many of our countries have dirty hands in the arms trade.

Dirty hands indeed.

Is the work automatically enrolled in prime or is it somehow specially selected? I am contemplating trying them for a second time since they offer an opt out and are working on a better watermark.

You can upload anything to 500px ... think of it kind of like a classy instagram ... with a marketplace ...

It's kinda been my test route with photography, as my skill improves it seems I've had better success and have a whole 2 images for sale. lol. No sales yet obviously but, when I get so many "likes" or whatever 500px sends an email kind of suggesting that you should put it on the marketplace, so I just go in and toggle the box to put it up for sale, re-upload if I need to and I'm done ...

Mostly because I don't want to sort a terabyte of files now and figure out what CAN even sell because I'm kind of lazy ... but, I'm looking more into getting a fire started and uploading more now, seems that between the Adobe deal and 500px I could actually make this work.

Sorry to say this sounds like possibly the only time I would have considered allowing them to use the photos.  It is an article about the photos you've taken rather than using them to promote another product. Could be one of the few types of exposure that doesn't  kill you! It could add to your rep as a go to city scape guy. Of course I understand and respect your response though. It's  what I'd  normally do.

They promote their product which is their magazine. It is not a free magazine (80 for 13 issues)
They promote camera manufacturers who advertise in it.

Following the same logic, the freelance journalist could also write the article for free, in exchange for credits and exposure, since it is about the articles she writes.

Moreover, their audience is made almost entirely from other photographers, who have no interest in purchasing my photos, but most probably selling theirs.

I probably would have done it ... I mean, even if they got an EL it's not like you see all that much benefit ...
