General Stock Discussion / Re: lost partition recovery
« on: September 05, 2015, 14:10 »
this SSD is my laptop hard drive which i had run on windows 10..

actually i wonder is it related to windows upgrade, didn't think of the partition may have issue.

Try to put your SSD on a desktop PC and see if you can find / recover your files. But I suggest after to delete all partitions and make a full format.
I hope you will succeed !
 :)

The biggest downfall of SSDs :(

HDDs are magnetized disks of metal ... even after a mechanical failure one could recover data if they had the funds for it ... I'm not entirely sure what length you can do that with SSD. Also, most information sources say that SSD performance degrades rather quickly but, I haven't experienced any issues with mine.

Definitely try hooking your disk up to another computer to see if it will recognize the partition.

I finally rolled back to Win 7 ... Windows 10 didn't like my Wacom Tablet or my software and that bitch Cortana would jump up in the middle of my game if I said anything even close to "Hey Cortana" and get me killed.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe / Fotolia sale - commissions unaffected
« on: September 01, 2015, 12:42 »
This just in from Adobe / Fotolia:

"As you know, Adobe acquired Fotolia earlier this year and later launched Adobe Stock, a stock image service integrated into Adobe Creative Cloud. As a result your images are now available to the worlds largest creative community.

Were pleased with the early adoption of the product and were happy to see that many of you have already shared your feedback of increased sales.

We will be running a promotion from September 1st to September 20th to further ensure that your images are receiving the maximum amount of exposure to potential new clients and to accelerate awareness of the site.

For a limited time, we will be offering a 50% discount on all single images purchased, 2.99 per image instead of the usual 5.99.

We wanted to inform you that, regardless of this discount occurring, your commission will be unaffected and you will continue to generate royalties at the current rate.

Many thanks
Fotolia/Adobe Stock Team"

Thanks!

Perhaps the post is about their policy of allowing images to be part of the free section.   The default changes to YES option on its own but not 100% of the time so  it is easy to assume.  It is important to check each image before confirming upload.

That setting really seems to bounce back and forth by its own. The conspiracy theorist in me suggests it's not a complete accident :(

Is there a way to check if any of my images has accidentally been put to the free section?

At least he chose to come in to the forums and face the music. That takes some brass ones for sure.

Meh, the handy thing about the internet is it can't transfer fists ... yet ...

That seems like so much work in all reality ... Setting up the scene and recreating the objects nearly exactly like that ... I mean, I think for most logical people if they see a concept that they like or think will sell well, they try to illustrate it their own way.

I mean, I think most people still will drag reference files onto their desktop and get a feel for what they're trying to create but, to flat out sit and copy every detail like that seems very time consuming.

You get what you deserve bro. That's flat out theft.

Mat comes in here and remains calm, speaks factually as possible and is probably the voice in the new Adobe structure that seems favorable for contributors (for now anyway).
Is this favorable to contributors in your opinion?  Even after 200,000 sales you'll get 10% less than SS at around 10-15,000 sales.
Sales                     Royalty Rate
0-99                      .25
100-999                .27
1,000-9,999          .29
10,000-24,999      .31
25,000-99,999      .33
100,000-249,999  .35

Are we just derailing the thread on purpose or ... ?

Seems that everyone is up in arms all of the sudden (typical MSG) I for one think it's an amazing idea, and using a preview of an image during the process of projects is going to save a lot of people headache, tears and wages (clients sometimes are a bit ignorant as far as design goes).

Seems that my images are already integrated to Adobe Stock, and if it starts bringing in anything I might start uploading again.

I am hopeful its a good thing. So far so good!

I also hope it's a good thing for you folks, too. My frustration all along is what I consider retaliatory management. Just because we voice real concerns and, in my case, frustration, some of us get our accounts closed. I blame Chad for that, a management role who is playing a bad game with suppliers, an inappropriate game, one who is unwilling to participate here and interact with us to resolve complaints.  Mat, on the other hand, is probably a real good dude caught up in having to deal with people like me. I am sure he is a stand up guy and would be willing to iron out differences between contributors and management.  Mat comes in here and remains calm, speaks factually as possible and is probably the voice in the new Adobe structure that seems favorable for contributors (for now anyway).

But this isn't about me. This is about the industry. None of us knows the repercussions yet and that will simply take time. I wish everyone who has stuck it out with FT success in the Adobe Stock adventure.

I also commend Mat for coming in here to help smooth relations, after all the D-day drama and everything else, I doubt that I'd want to talk to us.

In order to access Google Webmaster Tools u need a gmail account. They r linked, so when google send u a msg through Google Webmaster Tools, that message is redirected to your gmail account too.

a gmail account isn't required anymore, a google account is ... all of your google stuff basically ends up synced though ... (especially if you're using Chrome) they know absolutely everything about you. Webmaster, analytics, adsense and even your g+ page pretty much end up being a big cluster of ... googliness?

and use an android ... even worse ... lol

Dallas , i don't know if u have a site of u're own or if u manage one....but i do and it has just one problem : it is not mobile friendly.
Do u want to know when google announced me that I will be penalized ?
18.03.2015 i received that msg from google...not in 2014 or 2013, and I felt on my skin what that means.

I did get the message ... and I can't say that my sites couldn't use an update but, at least the important one is mobile friendly. ;)

There are many changes that google made to its Penguin algorithm (search engine)...But I can give you two examples which effects ALL agencies:
1: all sites with "duplicate content" = Google's penalty (i think this is a huge problem for all agencies, since all agencies have duplicate content)
2. all sites which r not "mobile friendly" = Google's penalty (this type of problem can be solved with a new look, but it takes time "months" to regain the position you lost it in google)

Duplicate content has been penalized for years ... it's kind of ... their way of keeping up with re-bloggers.

Also, mobile ready sites have always been given priority ... on mobile devices ... I don't know if you know this or not but, Google developed the android operating system, and Chrome ... having a site data that displays well on all devices and browsers is just ... a given.

and I hate to be the * broken record carrying this thing on ... but, wasn't penguin implemented like ... LAST FREAKING YEAR ...

I like Segoe and I'm a graphic designer too.

It fit the bill really ... If I had it at home Bradley Hand would have been my choice but, Segoe fit well also. (and I doubt many people could tell the difference)

Thanks guys!

Silly late night thought after probably one or two too many beers ... I'm not entirely sure that I'd even like to start selling them and that might even kill it for me. Quite a few were oversaturated on purpose, dark rainy day, shot terribly underexposed ... Ron, it isn't Comic Sans ... it shares some similarities, I just needed something that showed some sort of ... character ... It's Segoe. ( and no, it hasn't gotten me a new job yet ;) )

I suppose some of the people here that I talk to already know but, I have never really planned on selling photography. I'm a designer, I just ... don't intend to be a photographer but, I've been getting a bit of attention because I have a little herd of models. Is this sort of thing worth any money? I mean ... some of the location oriented spots and others (clothing and things) would need to be editorial but ... I guess I've all but given up on stock so it really doesn't matter much ... I've just been grooving on shooting the kids. lol.

and that at first it kinda sounded like it was going to be a logo ... in my mind anyway ... I've already caught a couple of the local designers tossing stock images into logos ...

People sell stock graphics as "custom" logos all the time. Usually to unsuspecting clients/customers. I got an email from a guy who was given one of my stock icons and told it was a custom logo. He even had it tattooed on his arm. Poor guy had no idea it was a stock image that has been sold thousands of times.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do about it. It's going to happen, and we won't ever find out about it until after the fact when a client/customer of one of these "designers" contacts us wondering why we're selling their logo.

I've recently resigned myself to the fact that by working in this business you have to let go of your rights to your work. There are some cases where you can successfully pursue a usage that goes beyond the intended license, but more often it's just not worth it. I hate to say it but for how much money we make from our work in microstock, if I found someone using something of mine as a logo today I probably wouldn't do anything about it, even if it came from somewhere with a license that prohibits it. I've gone that route before and it doesn't help me. In fact, it usually causes more stress. I just let it go now. Microstock is the wild west, and when I throw my work out there into the wild I don't retain any expectation of defending my rights to it.

I know that's a sad and sort of defeatist attitude about it, but that's just where I'm at with it. I've tried the other way, many times. Most recently even having to get a lawyer involved. Again, it's just not worth it. Even if some monetary settlement comes out of it, lawyer fees eat up a good chunk of that settlement and the whole process eats up a lot of your time and energy. It's stressful, especially in a case like mine when the other party starts making vague yet ominous threats against me. I just don't need the hassle, not to protect microstock images.

If I want to care about where my work ends up, how people use it, if it's used improperly as a logo, etc., there are proper distribution options for that. Microstock isn't one of them.

Well, I'm not terribly concerned with someone using mine either ... I mean, like I told her mostly I just like to see my stuff being used ... I'm not a big, or even good illustrator. So really it's just entertainment but, I definitely don't like to see people tracing someone else's work, and passing it off as their own. Like her shady response to my first question "Who owns the image?", "I do" type of a deal. I don't know ... maybe I'm just in a bad mindset for this sort of thing ... lol.

373
Thanks for the info @DallasP

I looked at the FB post, sent her message and giving you 4 likes  :D

lol. I still just can't believe that VectorStock allows logo usage. :/

374
Sorry, I read too fast and thought she wanted a logo, which is normally not allowed with stock licences.
If her 'graphic designer' licensed the image, why can't s/he make the simple changes? No problem, no issue.

It was shady mostly because when I asked her who owned the image it was "I do" ... and didn't point out that she'd purchased it until later ... I don't think that I'd want someone tracing one of my images ... especially since she now probably has a bw vector and had what appears to be a medium size .jpeg ... Just seemed a bit fishy to me ...

and that at first it kinda sounded like it was going to be a logo ... in my mind anyway ... I've already caught a couple of the local designers tossing stock images into logos ...

I don't know how many other agencies allow logo use. I'd never had cause to look at Vector Stock before.

Yeah ... It is kinda odd that they do allow logo usage ... I messaged her to apologize just because I'd come off a bit abrasive (few too many beers maybe), and it turns out that ... she kind of is using it as a logo http://www.froglilly.com/ ... but, through vectorstock it's totally legit. So whateves.
