Comers?
Being ironic?

Show on road.
Text a lot?

I like your comers ... even if they aren't correct Engrish.

I think "greatest number" sounds more elegant "most" would be the most economical. "single" is also redundant. "Who has the most files at an Agency?" I would suggest is optimal.

Very efficient indeed, but I wouldn't capitalize "agency".
Yes I thought about that one I think you are right which goes to show it's never a good idea to correct someone's English on line unless its a grammar forum ;-).
Yes. I thought about that one. I think you are right. Which goes to show it's never a good idea to correct someone's English online, unless its a grammar forum. ;-)

Off Topic / Re: Stop The Hate - VOTE!
« on: November 09, 2018, 21:27 »
If I was American I certainly wouldn't vote Republican, but I also have doubts about the Democratic party. Luckily in the Netherlands we don't have a two-party system, but various political parties to choose from.

In the Netherlands you are ruled by Jean Claude Juncker and his unelected technocrats  :(

In the USA you are ruled by your unelected POTUS. Remember, you don't vote for the President, you elect your Electors.

Just like we Europeans don't vote for the President of the EU, but we elect the EU Parliament which elects the President (who - by the way - has way less power that the POTUS, unfortunately).

This is how democracy works on both sides of the pond.

You skimmed over the details while nit picking electors, we voted popular vote for what the electors are supposed to vote.

We are not ruled by the President in the USA. With checks and balances, each of the three branches of government can limit the powers of the others. Legislative, Legal - the Supreme Court and The President. POTUS has much less power than some people imagine and can be overruled by the Legislative or the Legal branches. The President does NOT make laws, Legislative does, of course the President can issue Executive Orders. Which can be ruled illegal or improper by the legal branch.

We are ruled by the three branches of the government.

Just a note: my message was in reply to someone (not you) who said that we Europeans are "ruled by Jean Claude Juncker and his unelected technocrats".

This is clearly untrue, and Juncker has certainly no more power than POTUS.

Mine is not an attack on America. I truly believe that both Europe and America are true democracies. Even when I disagree with electoral results.

No No, I was only referring to the "In the USA you are ruled by your unelected POTUS." We aren't ruled by the POTUS, we do in effect vote for him/her = nothing more. I know nothing of Juncker. Now for nit picking, USA is not a democracy it's a Representative Republic. But then again it is run in a democratic fashion and a democracy.

http://factmyth.com/factoids/the-united-states-of-america-is-a-democracy/

I still think we live in a democracy, but all that technical political jargon gets in the way.  ;D

You're both wrong, it's a bureaucracy.

I voted but still feel the hate  :-[

In Utah they were up late celebrating in the streets for the Med MJ turnout. Now we can let the theocracy ruin pot too. lol.

Being rude is not his job the others seem to get it!!

He wasn't rude, he was asking legitimate questions that needed answers. The other reporters ask the same questions. Trump is just biased against CNN anything not fox, and acts like an * to them. Really wouldn't expect that kind of behavior from anyone in public ... let alone the POTUS.

Voter suppression continues, I see.  >:(

You believe the lies

Voter suppression laws are very real and very observable. It's hard to tell how much they affect the outcome of any election, but there are definitely targeted laws that affect specific groups of voters.

gerrymandering is just the start of this one.

Ah, I'm blushing Mat!  :-[

I do care about contributors and building a great marketplace that services customers and contributors alike.  Now that I've got the "official" stamp, I hope to hear from more of you.  Love to hear your ideas and fix your problems if I can.  No doubt Mat is your point person but if you're passionate about video, I get you...

PS - best way to see more about me is to connect with me on LinkedIn or Twitter.  @dradadobe is the twitter handle.

Holy crap?! Two actual people to interact with?! That's not the way this microstock thing is supposed to work. You're supposed to ignore us and treat us like poop! This is intense. I don't know if I can handle it.

Adobe Stock / Re: Important Fotolia Announcement
« on: November 05, 2018, 22:18 »
Hello everyone,

I have important news to share with you. One year from today on November 5, 2019 Fotolia will close.

What does this mean for you? If you have already synced your Fotolia account with Adobe Stock then you are all set. No additional action is required on your part. If you have not synced your Fotolia account with the Adobe Stock Contributor portal, now is the time to do so. Go to https://contributor.stock.adobe.com and create or sign in with your Adobe ID. You will be asked if you are a Fotolia contributor and then prompted to sync your account.

Beginning February 5 contributors will not be able to submit new content through Fotolia. All new uploads must happen via Adobe Stock starting on that date. You will however still be able to access Fotolia with your login credentials to view your sales history, the tax center and to submit payment requests should you prefer to do so up until November 5. After that, there will be no access to Fotolia in any capacity. Your content will still be online at Fotolia up until November 5 so customers can continue to purchase licenses to use your work through Fotolia. As always, any commissions earned through Fotolia sales will be paid immediately into your Adobe Stock Contributor account.

You will find additional information including how to sync your account here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html

There are many advantages to using the Adobe Stock Contributor portal. You can edit keywords and titles on approved content. Free access to Adobe Portfolio where you can share custom collections created in the Adobe Stock Contributor portal along with your non-stock work, Adobe sensei generated auto keywords, auto title and auto categories to streamline your indexing process, contributors outside the US paid in USD can receive payments through Payoneer, top 10 contributors of the week displayed to show you what type of content is in demand from customers in real time, Creative Cloud members can upload to Adobe Stock through Lightroom Classic, Adobe Bridge and Premiere Pro CC. There are many new and exciting features being developed. Migrating everyone to one site will allow us to focus more on Adobe Stock development to provide these new features faster than ever.

Im sure you have many questions. I will be checking the forum frequently and will do my best to answer them in as timely a manner as possible.

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

Thanks Mat, I'm wondering what this means as a Fotolia Subscriber as well. I've got a herd of credits chilling in there.

I changed it anyway ... because it was an old password but, bruteforce targeting of user accounts isn't a "hack" so there very well could be some attempts ... but, it'd take years for them to even make a dent.

85
From an agency point of view the commission system is genius. Nearly  all the risk is taken by the contributors hence agencies can limp along on a shoestring selling almost nothing.

Commission is great for all sorts of things. Screw fixed costs, especially when your just starting and sales are low.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS worst Spammed Portfolios

This is, what SS is accepting now.

I wouldn't keep that kind of blurred photo not even on my CPU.

How are you storing things on your CPU?

87
The whole microstock thing is ... basically pennies now anyway. lol. Just leave it alone and collect the royalties.

All of our digital work is stolen, used as logos and whatever . else they can even dream of. (I actually argued about that specifically on a logo design forum yesterday).

I'm moving ... most of my creative endeavors elsewhere. It's too time consuming to sort, tag and upload photos to Micro to even worry about. :/ I'd rather sell them direct and make 10 than keep contributing to this crap show to make 15.

General Stock Discussion / Re: shutterstock earnings question
« on: October 13, 2018, 18:59 »
Okay, interesting.

Have you found the portfolios that 'spam' certain types of content (i.e., say 40,000+ images of a boat, or 15,000+ images of a piece of furniture) have affected discoverability of some of your items? Or somehow you still seem to perform well in spite of that?

tbh, those portfolios are hurting themselves even. Nobody in the middle of a project with a deadline wants to scan through thousands of incredibly similar images. I'm sure, like me, they search ... grab the one that will work, and proceed with their work.

89
Meh, tried to test out Lightroom CC but for Windows 10 only. :-(
Am i that old fashioned with Win 7?

It works fine on 7 for me

I used bluehost in the past when I had a site selling my images. It was slow then, too, because there are many, many sites crammed onto their server. There are some things you may be able to do to speed it up a little, but if you dont pay the money for a better hosting plan or dedicated server, you might be stuck. I know I didnt want to spend the money for a better hosting plan, so I went with the basic plan. Its a dilemma...you dont want to spend the money if you arent going to make any back, but if you dont spend the money, the site is difficult for buyers to navigate.

Better hosting? Like what for example?

Ah updating the blue host plan. I thought you were discrediting them for another company.

Bluehost is like ... premium-budget hosting. lol. Not the best and certainly not the worst.

The site looks good man. I'm glad you answered the question about selling designs though :) Good luck.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Backgrounds
« on: October 07, 2018, 12:33 »
Hi DallasP. No I don't. I don't do composites. And no, I don't want to use someone else's photo that's on the stock websites. I haven't ordered from Ink and Elm yet either. There are wood panel backgrounds and I asked if it is okay to put it on my table and lay for example fruits on it or a cake etc. and upload that. It all started when I saw a vinyl snow background a view days ago on eBay. The seller has stitched two photos together but I saw the top part of it on SS. I went on SS to see if I can maybe make my own snow background or if I am just not good enough. I was shocked to see that image on SS and asked here if it is okay to use it if I put a still life on the part that lays on the table but the sky with snow would be visible. It didn't feel right to me to do that and so I asked. I do very few images and certainly not composites. There is a lady I know who makes here own backgrounds and before I bought one I asked her if I am allowed to put cake etc. on it and sell the photo with her background on the stock websites. I am not a low life rat. I asked here because I know of a lot of people who buy for example on Ink and Elms website and they sell backgrounds to photographers. It worries me, that's why I asked. I am a photographer. I don't want to do harm to others. And I don't know what GTFO means.

Wait ... so you're selling the table?

Why do I need to contact Ink and Elm? They bought the backgrounds and are printing them on vinyl as photography backgrounds. Are they doing something wrong? My question is if I can buy such a background and put a still life in front of it and upload it to the stock websites.

You want to use a composite of other people's images to sell on stock? GTFO.

Adobe Stock / Re: Minimum Payment Commission Increase

Hi Everyone,

This morning we updated the minimum commission structure. You can view details at this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/royalty-details.html

The breakdown detailing the changes can be seen in this chart. Let me know if you have any questions.

-Mat Hayward

Thanks Mat!

Thanks for posting. I have very few jewelery shots, but I did take a look .

It still beggars belief that with all the automation SS has introduced into the review process, they don't match against the existing collection (and flipping or scaling shouldn't be an issue for finding matches).

It really shouldn't but, they use that technology for the similar images function ... t'would be silly to run the same function to find duplicates :/

I still find it amazing that google can pull up exact matches and 10,000 similar images yet, the companies working in the ACTUAL IMAGE INDUSTRY can't.

I've no respect for anything that guy currently hawks around seeing as he likes to call other microstockers "clowns"

I quote "All these doom and gloom clowns just need to work harder."

He's got a fair point, but to be honest clowns do work pretty hard, unlike many who post regularly in the doom & gloom threads.

Not easy keeping those kids happy!

The doom and gloom guys just expect what they had 10 years ago and want to pay their bills. It's all just slow and hopefully steady now.

96
This isn't a criticism of your photos, only an assessment of their likely usefulness as stock images, but I can't think of many uses for these types of portraits (which is essentially what they are).

I'd suggest you do searches on Shutterstock to see what you're up against in terms of the market for photos (looking at what's popular) and supply - looking at how many images are already there. This is a competitive and well-supplied area. If you look at bride there are over 1.2 million items and wedding over 5 million. family wedding has less than 300K and more variation in the results (clearly releases are are bigger issue the larger the group).

I'd look for some niche areas that you might have a good supply of images for, many of which might not need releases. wedding venue has about 20K; wedding cake has about 19K. Even wedding dress detail, which has about 7K items has things that get used a lot for backgrounds.

For the people shots, try and figure out what message or mood or story the picture could tell as a stock image. Pretty brides are a dime a dozen, but a family hug, or a jilted bride or someone holding a little kid's hand could be a good topic for stock.

So, no home runs where you get to clean up with any of this, but there are potentially some solid items (particularly good where they sell long term as there's nothing trendy about the subject)

Good luck

Summarized ... great photos but, maybe not good stock.

97
Well, those are more fine art than wedding.  Not what I was expecting.  I dont think theyll have much use for wedding advertising.  How would you see them being used?  How are you going to get releases from people who have already compensated you for you work?

I legit was expecting event photos. lol. Thinking "Who would really want their wedding sold as stock" bahhaha

Shutterstock.com / Re: Slow server
« on: September 13, 2018, 18:10 »
Same here. Shutterstock servers DO HAVE A PROBLEM. Uploading takes ages and creates errors in Filezilla and other software I use to upload. Often files arrive corrupted.
Other sites I upload to, uploading is fast and no problem.

It's always slow ... I assume that it's because the server is in mass.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe sales in past two years

My sales in the last two years on Adobe\Fotolia did not change much (flat line), but I increased the portfolio size over 3000 files...

what is your statistics?
Thanks!!!

Something must be up with that, I'm getting more sales. I even thought about starting to illustrate for stock again mostly because of the adobe sales on my rather shabby illustrating.
