Just listening to hunky dory - first time in a while.  When the icons of your youth are dying off it's a reminder of your own mortality.

Adobe Stock / Re: Duplicate Rejection Notifications
« on: December 11, 2015, 18:23 »
Thanks for the explanation.  Now ... I do not want any image going into the free section as everything I've uploaded are all selling well elsewhere.  I looked at the site and cannot see where I can opt out of the free section.  How do I take images out of the free section (I just got a notice that some images have been moved there) and how do I prevent this from happening to future images?

It's an option when submitting - make sure you set to no. Rejecting from free section must be where the expression "adding insult to injury" comes from...

« on: December 11, 2015, 18:06 »
I would say the standard needed at alamy is way lower than SS or even DT - don't submit shots taken in difficult conditions for the test - use 4 technically good ones cos that's all that matters to them.  Personally, I wouldn't sweat it as sales, even if they fetch a much higher royalty, are like hens teeth.

Credit sales are not dead, Credit sales are murdered. Murdered because GI wants to squeeze the lemon even further in detriment of contributors pockets. Greed murdered credit sales in IS.

Corporations exist to make money for shareholders not suppliers or workers - murder implies they're interested / care but it's more like collateral damage...

If you're getting rejects at alamy you're probably pretty much screwed for SS

I agree

But remember what I said here the last time you asked for a review and were given this advice. Be very, very careful.

Ain't that the truth - need a thick skin to look for critique here

Actually 2 of the top 4 are really middle tier - DT have dropped to 5 because pond seems to have moved higher than I remember

If you don't do it, you have no right to complain about low royalties!

Some of us are not at the level where we can do it. So I guess that means we still do get to carp about low royalties.  ;)

Yes, please go ahead with your "carping"!  >:(
But don't forget to maximize your prices as soon as you get that promotion, if you don't want to lose your "carping" rights!
 ;)

I agree with this - we don't have much control and should exercise it where we do have it and I seriously doubt it would impact the low volume of ELs.  When I went to Bronze FT did a bulk update for me but at silver they suggested I change a few manually to see how it goes.  I ended up scripting a bulk update and glad I did.

« on: October 03, 2015, 07:32 »
The solution is fairly simple.  Forum software is the same that AM uses but, there, the first post is moderated.
And who should moderate at SS? They don't do night shift and they are probably fee for weekends.
Where's the problem?  It just means a new and otherwise unverified poster might have to wait until someone can have a look at the first post.

When SS "cuts" royalties I still get the same per download, when IS does it I get less per download.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Payouts - Paypal Overhead Cost?
« on: September 29, 2015, 16:54 »
If your PayPal account is linked to your bank account and you transfer the money to your bank account there is no fee.

Yes, that's how I get my payments too. No charge to me.
And me - FT pay 100 I get 100 in my account

Does nobody else have a problem with folks pillorying someone who can't answer back while, at the same time, boasting that their own (invisible) material is so much better?

« on: September 06, 2015, 08:08 »
DT doesn't compare to SS or, much as I hate to say it, IS.  I find that, even though volumes are lower, $ value is generally better than FT or 123 which are more appropriate sites with which to compare.

« on: August 24, 2015, 16:14 »
Perhaps the post is about their policy of allowing images to be part of the free section.   The default changes to YES option on its own but not 100% of the time so  it is easy to assume.  It is important to check each image before confirming upload.

That setting really seems to bounce back and forth by its own. The conspiracy theorist in me suggests it's not a complete accident :(

Is there a way to check if any of my images has accidentally been put to the free section?
Isn't that checkbox just for rejected images?

I'll be happy to submit your request.

Cheers!

I wrote to support and was told to change a few manually to see the effect (not great advice given extended sales are like hens teeth).  Was easy enough to do with a simple script fortunately.

iS drops exclusivity.

And drops everyone to a straight 20%

20% would be an improvement for me :)

There's a lot I like about DT but going exclusive would be just mad.  Apart from lower overall revenue your images aren't really your own anymore.

123RF / Re: 123rf - reviewed status for 12 days now ?
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:39 »
I can beat that ;D I had two batches of uploads pending from the end of May/start of June until today. Emailed support today (with the file #) and got a reply within minutes saying they would be assigned to a reviewer. Couple of hours later they have just been reviewed (and accepted). Credit to 123RF for responding to and acting on my email very promptly.
This subject came up before on MSG and I remember that the answer was that large batches of images get priority -smaller batches get left. Not sure what the reasoning was behind that - but there it is. Hope you get your images reviewed soon. Kind regards, David.

They do act if emailed but wouldn't it be better if they just reviewed in some reasonable time?

...To me the whole thing was the change from someone with an entrepreneurial mindset at the top towards people with calculators and spreadsheets leading the company that was the main cause for all that has developed from then on.

Nail on the head.  Once the guy with vision is replaced by bean counters companies tend to go into a downward spiral.

I wouldn't see it as viable way to make a living but, as a pure hobbyist, I could just build up files on my hard drive OR find an audience for the stuff I produce and make a few bucks in the process.  Micro provides this.

Edit typo..

Today is a Monday like Sunday on SS.  :'(
So the real question is: are people seing an upturn in Fotolia sales?

The real question should be: Why does one sell their valued work for a royalty of 0.25 - 0.40? Ooops sorry that 0.40c was for the new Adobe site, I keep forgetting that Shutterstock only pays you 0.38c. My Bad.

Surely one's work is certainly worth more than this. I certainly can't afford to sell my work for this price.

I suppose it depends on how often you sell the same piece of work...
