Shutterstock.com / Re: SS levelling up
« on: January 21, 2021, 10:27 »
So far my january on SS is 64% lower than it would have been with the old earning structure  :'(

52
On the positive side, they don't reset level once a year - yet.
It's still based on lifetime sales.

53
Great video of the visitors to your feeder  :)

I think you should ad more sunflower seeds to the mix, because some of the birds seem to only go for them.

54
300 accepted files was too low, most everyone could get it, but 5000 downloads (even with video files counting as x8 ) is too much, especially in this year.

They should put minimum of 300 downloads for Single App and about 1500-2000 downloads for All Apps.
It's
Quote
150 4,999 downloaded qualifying assets: Choose your one-year complimentary plan by selecting one of these options: Creative Cloud Photography (20GB), Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or After Effects.

5,000+ downloaded qualifying assets: Receive one-year complimentary access to Creative Cloud All Apps.

150 downloads is probably easier to reach for most, than 300 accepted new files.

Why in the he** are they removing so many sports images .... godalmighty!
Like photos of politicians and celebs, to avoid conflict with Getty togs.
...
I made 45 cent from Getty Connect  :)

It has now been a year since I closed my account, and I wonder how long it will take before these small payouts stop.
I'd like to know too, how long does it take after deactivation for them to permanently make the images unavailable? Does anyone know?
I have opened a support ticket with the question, so hopefully there will soon be an answer.

Please don't forget to come back when you find out. Not a big deal, but waiting until July 2021 doesn't sound very appealing.
They gave me this answer:

Connect sales are only generated once a year. So the Connect sales you received were most likely from your last year as a contributor being 2019.

So they didn't answer my question about how long then small payments will continue. And the the part about Connect sales only being generated once a year, I don't get. I see them almost every month.

Typically I average about $.70 per download on SS.  Since June I have been averaging between $.90 to $1.00 per download. My ODs have been selling over the $2.85 levels plus higher EDs (over $28). Yeah, the dimes on some of my subs suck but it's the final numbers that count. I've already made more this July than last year's July.
My RPD has also been pretty good in June and July, but they would have been better with the old earnings structure.
And what about when January comes, and royalties are reset to 15%?

59
What is the final goal of the protest?
How realistic are all these energy and time consuming actions?
I think the goal must be to make SS re-consider the new earnings structure.

In principle I'm OK with levels based on 12 month sales, but I'm not OK with the January reset.

I think the payment for subscription sales is unfair. 10 cent minimum is rediculous.

Levels should be combined for images and footage.

I don't expect SS to return to the old earnings structure. But I hope they will at least drop the January reset, and also give us a share of the un-used subscription downloads.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I QUIT iSTOCK
« on: July 08, 2020, 08:29 »
Hello,
Hi - Has anyone quit iStock in the recent times? I understand from this thread (started a year ago) that iStock would pay any remaining earnings in the account even if it is less than 100 USD. Could anyone please confirm? Thanks.
I quit my IStock/Getty in October 2019 an got my little dollars without any problems (payout was not reached).
They also payed me sales which occured after my account cancellation im may 2020 (without asking them), beause the deletion of all files can take up to 6 months.
I quit in September 2019, and also still get a little from time to time. And they make payout every month, if there has been any income. The lowest pauout I had was $0.05  :)

In May there was even a $0.18 refund, because a sold file was changed to a cheaper subscription. Luckily for me there was enough from Connect to cover the refund.

I stopped uploading, and deleted my best selling files, when they annonced the 2 cent commissions.

Last year I finally closed my account last year after they by mistake paied a resonable commission for some images, and then took it back.

« on: June 14, 2020, 03:22 »
My sales numbers are not big enough to give a meaningful statistic base over such a short period.
One EL og large SOD more or less has a huge impact on the RPD.

But I have calculated that the RPD for subs is 54% lower, and for OD's 18% lower than they would have been before the cut.

I don't understand people who disable their port at SS because they don't accept to get 10 for a sale while they have a port at IS where they can get as few as 2 for a sale :o
When IS lowered to 2 cent a couple of years ago, I deleted my best selling images there, and stopped uploading. Then in september last year, they paid a decent royalty by mistake for some sales, and when they took back the money, I finally terminated my account.
I also stopped uploading to IS when they did that, but as far as I remember there was no possibility to delete just some images, you could delete all images, or none. How was it possible to delete just the best sellers? I'd like to do that too.

They disabled that option after we used it. I deactivated my bestsellers and the files they gave away for free over. 1.3 million times. I simply did not want to see them abused in this way ever again. It was really, really painful, especially emotionally.

But they gave us no choice.
Exactly. It was possible, and easy, to deactivate for a period after the announcement.

« on: May 31, 2020, 11:15 »
It is a good move that Dreamstime increase royalties, but as long as their sales are as low as they are for me, it doesn't really matter.
10% of almost nothing is still almost nothing.

People keep saying (hoping) that customers will go to Adobe. They will go to Istock and Getty, unfortunately. There is bigger possibility for that, it's a bigger stock company.
No they won't go to Istock, because they can't get my amazing files there  8) ;D

Regarding to subscription sales, that always was main sale; we never was paid based on the subscription package that buyer buy. There are 4 subscrption packetes:

10 images for 49usd (Packet 1 or P1)
50 images for 125usd (Packet 2 or P2)
350 images for 199usd (Packet 3 or P3)
750 images for 249usd (Packet 4 or P4)

Based on this and the % presented for SS the earnings per sale under new criteria is:

Level 1   0,74 usd(P1) ---- 0,38 usd(P2) ---- 0,09 usd(P3) ---- 0,05 usd(P4)
Level 2   0,98 usd(P1) ---- 0,50 usd(P2) ---- 0,11 usd(P3) ---- 0,07 usd(P4)
Level 3   1,23 usd(P1) ---- 0,63 usd(P2) ---- 0,14 usd(P3) ---- 0,08 usd(P4)
Level 4   1,47 usd(P1) ---- 0,75 usd(P2) ---- 0,17 usd(P3) ---- 0,10 usd(P4)
Level 5   1,72 usd(P1) ---- 0,88 usd(P2) ---- 0,20 usd(P3) ---- 0,12 usd(P4)
Level 6   1,96 usd(P1) ---- 1,00 usd(P2) ---- 0,23 usd(P3) ---- 0,13 usd(P4)
Thanks for the calculations. But it seems more complicated than that.

There is different pricing if it's monthly or annual subscription, and if the annual subscription is payed in advance or monthly. Further, if not all images are used in a month, the price per image will in reality be higher.

It doesn't matter if all images are used or not.  They have specified that if it is an image pack for $10 for 10 images, then our share is a % of $1.00 per image.  Even if only 1 image is downloaded.
Thanks for the clarification. Not very fair.

Yes that could be upsetting. I've never had a keyword rejected, that I know of. Do they notify me or just make it disappear?

You get a very fast message saying that incorrect keywords have been removed or something like that. I haven't seen the list of removed keywords but noticed that they removed Easter. SS does conjugate words like run/running, etc.

But in this case I had Easter separated and used in conjunction with other words like "easter bunny" and "easter eggs" so to me it doesn't make sense that they would erase the single word since the others a set, if I'm explaining myself correctly.

Unless each single word in a set also works as a single word ("easter bunny" also is treated as "easter" and "bunny" seprately) I cannot understand why they would consider a repetition.

As Jens G, the deleted word ends up showing in the suggested keywords. If you add them they get instantly deleted everytime.
It didn't get deleted again in my case.

71
In the last batch I uploaded, there was a picture including some pine trees in a forest. I always look at the keywords that SS suggest, to see if there are relevant keywords that I have forgotten, and in this case, SS suggested "forest", which was very relevant.

I was surprised that I had forgotten to put that word myself. But when I checked, I actually had "forest" in the keywords in the file. So SS must have removed the word for some strange reason, and then suggests it.

In january I made 64 cents, all from Connect  ;D

I have far more income from SS than from AS, with about the same number of files on both.

I haven't made a graph, but I quess it would look similar.

Relative to SS sales, my AS sales have always been lower than in the poll here at MSG. Normally AS gives me about half of SS. But the last two months, is has been less than 1/4.
