iStockPhoto.com / Re: Prices for 4K and UHD
« on: December 20, 2016, 20:53 »
4K is priced the same as HD. That's why I'm not uploading any 4K there.
Same here. When I render I make separate HD files for IS and Pixta.

General Stock Discussion / Motivational speaker stealing photos
« on: December 20, 2016, 02:21 »
I found a still from my stock footage used on this LinkedIn slide site
http://www.slideshare.net/imbasales/the-key-to-success-grit-by-angela-lee-duckworth-58149233
The "Keys to Success" that Angela Lee Duckworth or Hubert Koh (unsure who is responsible for the slideshow) must have low to no ethics attached to them.

LinkedIn have a copyright violation link at the bottom of the page but failed to do anything about it. I have no idea if the other images were stolen too.

Does anybody know if Pixsy do stills from videos?

New Sites - General / Re: pixta and ingimage

I had my limit on Pixta increased to 1000 images a month. Now they are my 3rd or 4th best paying agency.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: new alternative to lightboxes?

They seem to be almost identical to boards except that they are even more inconvenient to add photos to than the already inconvenient system there was for lightboxes.

PhotoDune / Re: Submissions and access gone at Envato
« on: November 16, 2016, 02:11 »
they have locked down submissions for everyone and are going to remove portfolios. only high quality content will be allowed. they will stop reviewing and give approved authors control over content and pricing. this project will take 12 months to complete,

ow and they will start offering subscriptions for buyers
That's quite an intriguing thing to do the day after they accepted me as a contributor. Sounds like they are best forgotten.

PhotoDune / Submissions and access gone at Envato
« on: November 15, 2016, 22:03 »
I opened an Envato account, and uploaded a batch of photos following their FTP instructions. When I went to my dashboard the next day it said:

You currently have no submissions.
 Start uploading on the right.

When I clicked on the link to the FTP instructions to check if everything was right, I got this message (although I had access to that page the day before):

You're not authorized to access this page

Has this happened to anyone else? Are sales there really worth the effort of sorting it out?

I've been having the same issue with them. MRs that are being used for hundreds of images on SS are suddenly no longer valid for new images.

Shutterstock.com / SS advice worthless

A whole blog entry dedicated to how to get lens flare:
http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/2013/09/light-up-your-shots-tips-on-adding-flair-with-flare/

Then they reject photos because of lens flare. I have to wonder what the point of the article is.

I had a look at what they had to offer. You can choose from four courses: photography, videography, Photoshop, and Lightroom. But they are all beginner courses. Basically anybody who needs to learn the information in the courses shouldn't be shooting anything for money.

I use Dreamstime for individual photos. I think Alamy have a way of linking to your whole port there.

I suggest using Vimeo. The users are mostly filmmakers so market is there. The free option is fine for demo reels.

I managed to get my earnings after I e-mailed Dan. Try e-mailing him.

It is strange that there aren't more upset customers and contributors complaining. I sent an e-mail asking about them closing down and when contributors can expect payment. I just got a curt response

"Did I not just send you your earnings last night?
What is your PayPal address. "

No mention of whether or not they are indeed closing.

I sent my PayPal address but still no payment.

Please give me kozzis mail adress. Contact page just a fake mail adress.

[email protected]
That's the one that worked for me.

It seems buyers have received e-mails about Kozzi closing.

What makes you think this?
They said so on Kozzi's FB page.

It seems buyers have received e-mails about Kozzi closing. Contributors OTOH have not been informed about anything, so no word about what is happening to money there.

The contact us page seems to be filled with cut and paste unrelated content with bogus e-mail addresses
http://www.kozzi.com/contact/

And on their FB page there are buyers complaining about having no access to their accounts.

All I see is a variety of information pages for various fields. There is no link to stock photos. Even the link on top "Royalty free stock images and vectors for just $1" leads back to the info pages. After a few years there I was finally about $2 from payout! Where . has it gone?

Great photos but probably won't be high demand on micro sites, so I'd suggest a boutique RM agency like http://www.4cornersimages.com/

General Stock Discussion / Re: ImageBrief and Exclusivity

The advantages of having exclusive images on Image Brief:

regardless of where i shoot, the terms can be TFP or 30 -100 /hr

the catch here is that models for commercial work do not necessarily sell well for microstock.
the thing being sometimes the models are too pretty for microstock.
i find the TFP works better as they are more "ordinary" looking for lifestyle
and more suitable for stock photography.

i think it was Yuri, Dolgachov or Lise (one of the big sellers) who once said the same thing, that not so glamourous is better for lifestyle shoot, as you don't want Demi Moore or Sharon Stone to pose as a CEO, even though Demi did play a CEO once !!!

I think shooting celebrity doubles might worth a try in some stock occasions :)

Definitely. I don't meet many of those, but I did meet a Liam Neeson lookalike last week who should have loads of possibilities.

I find this a big problem not because of the beauty factor but because it seems to be impossible to find commercial models here over 30 and difficult to find ones over 25. So I'd rather go with TFP friends etc instead of trying to pass off 20 year olds as doctors lawyers, CEOs, etc.

What about local amateur actors? There must be some specific social network for them in Taiwan.

Yes, I have used actors for some shoots. So far they have all been TFP or trading for a headshot session. I plan to use them more often in the future as even if paying them, the rates are far lower than models. I do location sound and mixing for some film projects, so I do get to network quite a bit there.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Caption Rejections
« on: July 06, 2016, 22:11 »
I'm not sure if this applies to your photo, but from my own editorial rejections there it seems if there is ANYBODY else in the picture no matter how far away or irrelevant to the photo, they need to be mentioned in the caption. (e.g. ...with bystanders/spectators on the sidelines.)

I occasionally use my LED video lights to shoot when I'm too lazy to change lights. My observations:
1. There is a noticeable difference in the quality of light between the LED lights and my Elinchroms.
2. Buyers don't seem to care about the difference above.
