Off Topic / Re: Tips on how to FAIL in this business

Write DT blog posts to celebrate after every 3.5 sales and 6.76 uploads instead of shooting more.

It's fine for stock. I've been shooting most of my stuff with a 24-105 since I moved to full frame.

A rare excellent day at DT. My average of ten sales a month jumped to 69 in one day.

Check their blog. If it's legit, they probably mention it there. VB had a similar problem last month didn't it?

This doesn't affect me at all since I'm having a sales delay at ME.

General - Stock Video / VB withholding tax
« on: June 12, 2016, 23:09 »
I understand withholding tax as only applying to US sales. That's the way all the agencies treat it at least. VB are applying withholding tax to ALL sales. It could be that all my sales are US based there but seems unlikely. Has anyone else who gets tax withheld noticed this?

131
In Taiwan, it's between $0 and $30 per hour.

132
I just found Motion Array, so not sure if they are that new but it is the first time I've seen this payment plan for contributors

"We pay 50% of the total revenue each month to producers.

Each producer receives a percentage of the money depending on their productss download percentage. Its that simple. "

Considering their buyer plans are $19 for 4 downloads etc, it looks like if there are sales, payments would be bleak.

133
yes. Youll earn 4-8 dollars for a full size 4k sale.
Not very exciting, also considering that they ask for a specific codec.
I never considered uploading to istock in the past, but now that P5 has distroyed the video market I might give it a shot.
Maybe just HD, giving away 4k for this price really is too much

That's what I do there. I only upload HD versions of 4K footage for IS. I didn't invest money in a 4K camera to be paid the same as HD.

134
I'm just going to start marking all my files as exclusive and get more money. If anyone ever notices they are not exclusive, I'll just say "Oops, it must have been your default setting."

So you want to go to extra trouble to export 4K for IS so they can sell it for the same price as HD?

136
I initially applied and got accepted a year or so ago, but decided not to upload there because I think they are pigs. Recently with all the turbulence with P5 I put my integrity aside and e-mailed them to resend the letter for to sign and got no response, so I re-applied. But my videos which were good enough before were no longer good enough so they rejected my application.

So, I assume they are building a core of a few super marketable videos to sustain them or something.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Editorial video in ESP
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:52 »
I don't think istock takes editorial video, only editorial photos.
Oh, I see. I think I mistook them accepting other video as editorial, but I think the accepted ones just fit into their guidelines for crowds in commercial files.

How does editorial video get marked as such in ESP? There is no field for it. Some files where I have included editorial captions and "editorial" in the keywords were approved but now I have one that has been rejected twice for containing people without a model release; when I resubmitted it, I made a note in the description field that it was editorial, but that didn't help.

General - Stock Video / Pixta joining the downward spiral
« on: May 09, 2016, 03:21 »
I've always supported Pixta, but their latest announcement just shows they are joining the race to the bottom:

"Since the beginning of 2015, we have conducted several campaigns to promote footage sales. As the result, we were able to sell more videos and obtain more sales than we had expected. These campaigns have also helped us make our footage more familiar in the microstock market and reach new customers.

Taking account of this result and the footage market environment, we have decided to revise the price of footage on PIXTA.

The detail of the new price table and the schedule is as below.
 ---------------------------------------------------------
 [New Price Table]
 HD1080 $90 ⇒ $70
 HD720 $70 ⇒ $60
 NTSC/PAL $50 ⇒ $40
 Web(L) $35 ⇒ $25
 Web(S) $20 ⇒ $15"

I have so much footage waiting to be review there that I can't upload anything new due to a FTP quota they have. I don't mind the waiting, but annoying that I have to wait to submit there.

I've been using Stockuploader. The free version is no more, but you might still be able to order a personal copy online.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What data do you track?
« on: April 13, 2016, 01:21 »
I use a completely backward system. I have all sold jpegs in a folder and each time they sell I update the file name (e.g. woman-with-headset-smiling-while-eating-salad_SS39_FT56_YAY749)

I don't see any benefit of inserting the data into excel. Since all the file names start with the model's name and shoot, I can easily see which shoots are selling the best. To work out total sales occasionally I just multiply the sales number by the lowest common denominator of .25c to get a rough estimate. I only analyze shoots until they reach breakeven point for shoot.
Ingenious! But how do you find best sellers convoluted sort? I occasionally visit sites to use their stats to see whats selling but tbh I don't have enough best sellers not to know how instinctively what they are :o
I'm in the same boat. I just know my bestsellers offhand as about 10 of my 2500+ photos makes 90% of my money. (The 99.80/0.20 principle ;) )

It's easier than copying and pasting. It has issues with some sites AFAIR.

It's nice that Nimia makes videos able to purchase straight from my website, but I'd be fine if I could embed photos with a link to the Micro site (without just creating a gallery on my Squarespace site and manually adding links for each photo).
It seems like adding sales cart for multiple items like photos on Squarespace is more effort than it's worth. Dreamstime has an easy way to embed photos on sites; I use this for my blog. It hasn't increased DT sales though...

Sorry to hijack the thread, but just thought I'd offer you my new free debt paying service. Just send me your bank account and credit card details and a copy of your signature and I'll take care of all those annoying bills you have to waste time paying every month.

Why?

For the reward of knowing I'm saving other people time.

I noticed yesterday that Uberstock's site now redirects to Funnelbox (The owner's other business, a video production company). And there is no mention of Uberstock or stock footage on Funnelbox.

Has the author of The Stock Footage Millionaire given up on making millions? I can't tell if Uberstock is still uploading to the usual stock sites.

I also stopped uploading video there. I don't think I had one sale from a few hundred videos. And since their CSV uploader never works for me, I couldn't be bothered to spend the time adding the metadata manually there.
