I'm exclusive to iStock, so this doesn't effect me at the moment. But since I'm using the standard iStock model release, I'm wondering if there's a better release that I should be using to future-proof myself in case I would like to put my videos on other sites in the future.
I doubt it's necessary. Besides this one occurrence at SS, the IS MR I use for video is accepted at Pond 5, VB, Nimia, 123RF, and Motion Elements.

youve been lucky all those years you need a video model release because its different from a photo mr
Where do you see the different MR? Both SS and IS only have one MR template on their downloads page.

Have SS changed their rules about video MRs? I've been using my standard photo MR (based on IS one) for years. Suddenly the last batch was rejected with:
"Model Release not valid. Please resubmit with a proper video model release"
Have they changed the requirements or was this just an erratic reviewer?

Weird. I got a donation confirmation from Paypal. I sent all those details through, but when I went to the site now, I get a message saying: Donation Confirmation Thank you for your donation! Sorry, there was a problem identifying this donation. Please contact the site owner for more information. The donation would have come from [email protected]

There were a few people here using a Panasonic FZ1000 for video. I'm wondering what you think of the quality of the HD video with it's low bitrate. Is it good enough for stock? (I know 4K is the main selling point, but I'm more interested in the quality of the slo motion available in the HD mode).

Thanks. I donated and applied a month ago and haven't heard anything.

Is there a timeline on when the standalone copies will be sent out?

The Chrome plugin still works AFAIK. It's the only reason I have Chrome installed and the only time I use it.

I have nothing against Kozzi or sites in general putting up blogs specifically to punt themselves, but this article just cracks me up. According to this writer, all traditional stock agencies and their websites suck except for Kozzi's... uhm because Kozzi is different... I'm interested to know how they achieved that while accepting everything the other agencies accept and then some (read: EVERYTHING ever submitted). http://www.digitalimagemagazine.com/featured-article/16-reasons-traditional-stock-agencies-websites-suck/

Lots of good points. Thanks for the advice.

IIRC there was an article on iStock a while back about acceptance of crowds and logos into the creative collection there. Again IIRC there have to be multiple different brands / logos, and /or the people in a crowd need to be "incidental" and not the main subject, with no individual standing out.
Thanks, I was probably incorrectly remembering that one.

I have an issue pending with them regarding csv problems. They told me to use xlsx and not csv. I havent tried it but will in the morning.
I'll try that on my next upload.

Motion Elements has twice now ignored the price field of my CSV file (their official template) and priced clips at a default of $59. Has this been happening to anyone else?

I'm sure I recall reading a SS announcement about visible people and logos are acceptable as commercial if they are part of a bigger picture and not the focus. I searched the SS forum and blog but can't find that now. Am I mistaken or was there an announcement along those lines? I already submitted clips like these as editorial, but if the above info is correct then it would probably be better to delete them and upload as commercial. http://www.shutterstock.com/video/video.html?id=12199451http://www.shutterstock.com/video/video.html?id=12199634

When I'm doing a metadata import on Motion Elements, the upload goes through and then freezes when it gets to the "Your...is being processed" page. Is anyone else having this problem?

I registered to find out more and not particularly happy. They have a tiered system with various benefits for each. The free "Freelancer" one has most of what one would need, but I think any pay-to-play scheme is BS at 35% commission.
My favorite is the Embedding option which only works with the paid schemes. So YOU take THEIR links and put it on YOUR site so customers can see it and buy it so THEY can get 65% of YOUR earnings after you went to the trouble of finding customers. And they charge you for this service. Thoughts?

I got an e-mail from a company called Nimia today. Has anybody heard of them? They say: With NIMIA, selling your video masterpieces is easy! "Freedom - YOU dont sign a contract Direct sales - YOU control the price $$ One place - YOU can store your entire video library, transfer files and license online Save time - YOU can do mass uploading, downloading and editing NIMIA is a community of filmmakers our footage was not for stock the quality and culture make us different from video stock agencies. " They also included this link from 2013, so they have been around for a few years. http://www.geekwire.com/2013/nimia/

I'm sure I've already missed the back-to-school bus for photos this year, but I was looking at videos on P5 to see what's popular video wise for back to school. I noticed that even sorting by most sales, the videos have mostly no downloads. Is this topic not a good seller for video on general?

I can't speak about Zoonar, about which I know nothing, so my comments apply only to your iStock images. Brace yourself - the answer belongs to that branch of Illogic peculiar to iStock/Getty, so totally unbelievable to anyone else.
You are indie, so all your iStock images are available on Getty Plus (fka Getty 360), but only to a certain subset of Getty buyers. They are not licensable by any other Getty buyers.
So although your images are searchable via e.g. Google, they cannot be bought other than by the G+ buyers.
Months ago, a friend alerted me to the same screen you saw on one of my images he'd happened to come upon. I saw a message something like not available in your location due to IP or other legal restrictions, which was a mystery, and the image was still on iStock. I questioned it on one of the facebook groups and was given the above explanation. I asked what was the point of having an image findable via Google, but not purchasable. I got a snide reply (the snidemeister trains his minions well) to the effect that didn't I like good SEO? The logic escapes me because: 1. The G+ buyers are already in the Getty system, so would surely be searching within Getty. (It might even be arguable that encouraging them to search via Google might lead them to find content elsewhere.) 2. What's the point of having good SEO to lead organic buyers to Getty, where they can't license the file? 3. Why isn't there AT LEAST a link on the Getty page to the iStock page from which the file can be licensed? I asked about points 2 and 3, and did not get a reply.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. "Here is the exact file you want but we are not going to let you buy it." seems like an excellent marketing strategy.

I found my images on Getty and they all have a notice saying the images are not available in your location. This bothers me as buyers in my location would probably be the main buyers.
I'm not with Getty directly. All my content there is ported either from IS or Zoonar. Could this be a reason for the restrictions?

And if you start licensing your footage elsewhere at a lower price, let us know so we can ensure your collection on Dissolve is priced for the marketplace.
I don't see the problem. Just ignore the above and your prices will stay the same. It's not in the contract so not our responsibility. Unless they are taking the time to go through each contributor's ports at other agencies. I was trying to remember why I didn't start submitting there. Now I remember.
