alamy has buyers? ;D

look wayyyy to the right of this page >>>>   shutterstock 105.2 alamy 5
which fast growing branch would u be hanging on to?

For sure, there are few sales there. But due to the pricing and commission I make about the same on Alamy and SS (Granted that my sales are not particularly good).

iStockPhoto.com / IS removing crucial keywords
« on: December 24, 2014, 03:46 »
I recently submitted a batch of photos of street food at vendors in a night market in Taiwan. IS accepted them but excluded the following keywords:
{[Traditional Culture, Food, Market (Retail Place), Night Market, Market Stall (Market), Street, street food, Tourist, Traditional Culture, Market Vendor (Vendor), Vendor (Retail Occupation)]}
I know the general rule for accurate keywording is to keyword only what you can see in the photo, but some sites have mentioned it is important to include information about location, etc if it is relevant to the picture. Pretty much ALL relevant keywords have been removed as well as the context. But irrelevant keywords like "Christmas" (An oversight on my part when copying from keyword generator) have been left in.
Is it worthwhile pointing this out to IS? And if so, is it possible to do it without submitting a ticket for each photo?
Here is an example of one of the photos:

Just a discrepancy between SS and Alamy buyers which I found humorous.

From a recent Alamy post:

"Confirmed Sales Potential. If youre looking for subjects to shoot, you now know what a customer (who has money to spend) has not found on Alamy get to it!

Cursor on a scroll bar (computer screen)."

So I decided to shoot one, and while I was at it, make a video of the same thing.

Shutterstock's response:
"Rejected: Limited Commercial Value. We do not need this clip. Do not resubmit."

I found this particularly amusing as despite the completely random rubbish I've shot in the past, this is the first time I've had an LCV rejection.

New Sites - General / Re: kozzi.com anybody?
« on: December 16, 2014, 22:47 »
Kozzi was the first site I contributed to when I started MS, mainly as an experiment to see what this whole MS thing was about.

I don't have many sales there, but it is still has better sales for me than CS (As well as Yay, but that goes without saying). So it is not my lowest performer.

That along with the easy upload process (just submit with keywords, and Dan seems to personally add categories for you) make it worthwhile uploading for me.

255
I found one of my images with the copyright attribution "Източник: Thinkstock/Guliver Photos"

I assume one of my agencies filters photos down to TS as I don't submit there. But I don't get the Guliver Photos part. They are an agency in their own right. Is another agency sending photos to Guliver and then Guliver has a port on TS?

Thinkstock is a website belonging to Getty Images; non-exclusive images on iStockphoto are being mirrored to Thinkstock; Guliver Photos is a master delegate of Getty Images in Eastern Europe. Master delegates are distributing Getty's images in countries that are not easy to access from western countries (e.g. Russia, China, India).

Thanks for the explanation!

General Stock Discussion / Translation of names
« on: November 27, 2014, 03:14 »
Many agencies specify that all description fields should be filled in in English. This probably hurts my Asian market base a bit with bad translations but works OK-ish.

I'm wondering what to do with names. I'm doing some celebrity editorial shots of Taiwanese actors and politicians. If I enter their English name, the literal computer translation will just be meaningless rubbish. I think I could add notes in description fields on some sites, but would all sites accept that?

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Processing photos
« on: November 18, 2014, 02:05 »
Their system seems to be going crazy. I got e-mails notifying me about 100% rejections of a few batches. But when I edited and reuploaded those photos, it told me that the photos were duplicates of ones that were already approved and online. So the rejection notification was completely wrong.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Is Shuttertweet broken?
« on: November 17, 2014, 02:22 »
As far as I can tell it has been broken for months. I've been trying to activate periodically without any luck.

You can make collections, publish, and Tweet those from your Catalog Manager, though.

Dreamstime.com / DT Referral Program
« on: November 17, 2014, 02:20 »
I'm confused by DT's Referral Program. I got an e-mail from DT a few weeks ago saying that someone had signed up via my referral link. But it didn't show up on my admin page until now.

It says:
1 users were referred by you.
No photographers were referred by you.
No buyers were referred by you. No payment plans were purchased.

What exactly is a "user" If it's not a contributor or a buyer?

261
Keep in mind that any image that has sold as RF in the past probably shouldn't be offered for exclusive RM licensing.

For sure. I'm only selecting images which haven't sold.

Photography Equipment / Re: rollup white background
« on: November 16, 2014, 23:19 »
If you want to mount it, try these mounted pulley systems:

http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Single-Roller-Support-Mounting-Background/dp/B004G13ZZQ/ref=pd_cp_p_2

I have a similar one with three hooks, so I can leave black, white, and another color rolled up and ready to use.

263
I live in Taiwan and the cost of living here is pretty low and there are loads of locations and models to shoot.

The downside to this is the demand for these locations and models doesn't seem to be very high.

BS: you must contact them with image ID and ask to delete;
DT: you must wait at least 6 months after uploading, and can delete up to 30% of all pictures;
Don't know about Pixta or Kozzi
All other sites: no problems that I am aware, you can delete pictures by yourself

Thanks. So I should check what can be deleted at DT first.

265
Hi

I have a few photos that are not selling on the micro sites which I think would have some sales potential on more niche RM sites. Since those sites require either image exclusivity or at least not having the same files available on RF sites, I'd need to delete them on the micro sites.

Before I start deleting, I wanted to check if there was any problems I'm likely to encounter on any sites. I would either need to delete the files on ALL the sites or not bother at all.

The sites I'm currently uploading to are:
SS, IS, FT, DT, 123RF, DP, BS, Alamy, CS, YM, Pixta, and Kozzi.

266
I'd love a refresh page function on the Manage Images page. The only way to do it now is to change over to another option such as "Images Ready" and then go back to "Images Not Ready."

I find it easy to lose track of what I've edited when doing batches of unrelated photos.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Where is Canstock?
« on: November 06, 2014, 22:28 »
I've had one sale there in two months. But to add insult to injury, they've rejected 100% of my last few batches (which got about 70% approval at the other agencies). It feels like being kicked out of the Losers Club.

Image Sleuth / Re: Stock images on porn site
« on: November 04, 2014, 01:24 »
I got a reply from DT saying that they have sent legal notification to the site. It may be worthwhile to check what other sites they linking to and report it, to add pressure from multiple sources.

Yes, I messaged DT about through their contact page. I think they do have an actual infringement page, but I couldn't find it.

Image Sleuth / Stock images on porn site
« on: November 01, 2014, 08:28 »
A porn site is using stock images for attracting people using those keywords I guess. Check if any of your pics are there, I found some of mine. NOTE: The links on right are all to porn.

Lighting / Re: Profoto D1 Air sync with Canon flash
« on: October 15, 2014, 23:18 »
The 430 EX II has a slave mode. That's far easier.

Off topic, but how low in power can the D1 500 go? It might be too strong even at it's lowest setting to use the speedlite to light a white background.

273

OK, I'm bored enough to check this.

0.55 = US$0.69
So, I made US$0.69 over 24 months

$0.69 divided by 24 = $0.03 (rounded up)

1218 photos = $0.03 per month.

10,000 / 0.03 = 333,333.3333333333
333,333.3333333333 X 1218 =  406,000,000

I see the problem. I simply don't have enough images there. I'll get to work on that.

Disclaimer: My math is on par with my Yaymicro sales, so there may be an error or two.

Yaymicro / Re: Celebrating second sale on Yay!
« on: September 14, 2014, 22:45 »
After having one sale on Yay over the course of the last two years, I was shocked to see my second sale there today.

Now that my faith in Yay's sales potential has been restored, I'm wondering how do I go about leaving the fortunes from my payout to my great grandchildren?

How did you achieve that?

According to Yay you have no photos with them

Hi, these are some of my 0 photos at YayMicro. You have clicked on a link that will automatically give you a 20% discount on you first purchase here.

 :o
That is strange. I have just over 1,200 photos in my Yay portfolio. Either the site generates that link incorrectly or I put the incorrect information in.
