Since agencies don't care, wouldn't the best way to go about it be to send the end users (the ones you can find) letters of intent for legal proceedings? That in itself is not viable, but it would cause the buyers to put pressure on the agency to do something, and agencies are a lot more responsive to buyers than contributors.

I've done something similar with freelance work when I haven't been paid. I start sending my client's end-user invoices. It has worked since the client doesn't want to lose their client.

They'll probably reject it for "no phone number for model."

123RF / Re: Video pricing at 123RF
« on: April 09, 2017, 21:22 »
Is 123RF still reviewing videos? My uploads have been pending forever now.

What makes it more annoying is they have an FTP quota, so once you hit that you can't upload anything new until they process something. My uploads there are months behind the other agencies.

I also had a sudden burst of 14 photos. All the same search phrases.

I joined the program when it started but now I'm wondering if there is a way to opt out of specific images. Stills of some of my footage would be similar to images in my RM exclusive ports.

General - Stock Video / Pixta's new footage FTP
« on: March 02, 2017, 01:20 »
Pixta have new FTPs for uploading footage but say that the old ones will still be working for a while. I've been using the old ones since they announced this a few months ago. Now I can't get any of the FTP addresses to work. I've tried all the locations for both old and new ones.

Is anyone else having this problem or is it my settings?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Withholding tax

If I understand this information from KPMG correctly, then there is no way to do it.

Relief for foreign taxes

Is there any Relief for Foreign Taxes in Taiwan? For example, a foreign tax credit (FTC) system, double taxation treaties, and so on?

Under the regular tax, there is no relief for foreign taxes allowed for foreign expatriates. However, if the resident pays alternative minimum tax due to the inclusion of his/her offshore income, he/she may claim the foreign tax credit given that the supporting documents are submitted.

If there is a tax treaty when you pay your taxes in the country where you are a resident you can deduct the amount of money that was withholded from the amount of the taxes that you have to pay in your country. You just have to attach the document that you have for the taxes withholded. This is the idea of Double Taxation Agreements (DTA) - to avoid being double taxed.

When there is no DTA between the two countries you have to ask the TAX authorities in the country where you are resident and pay your taxes if they will deduct the withholded amount or part of it from the taxes you have to pay. If the withholding rate is 30% for you (in most countries where there is no DTA this is the rate) and then you have to pay 15% taxes in your country it is possible that you can deduct the withholded amount from the amount the you have to pay and finally you will pay nothing in your country. But you should ask your authorities.

The worst case is when you were at 30% withholding rate and then in your country you have to pay taxes again. Painful.

Currently, I think I am paying the 30% and then extra tax because my earnings from Paypal get declared when I transfer them to the bank.

OK, so if there is no tax treaty, then the money cannot be claimed back? Not a single agency is clear about this. Canva is the first one to mention claiming back funds.

I guess they don't want to leave themselves liable to any possible issues if giving out tax advice. I'd be surprised if your country's tax authority would take into account taxes paid to a country that they don't have a tax agreement with... but you never know.

Do you live in Taipei? I just had a quick Google search, and I could be wrong (so don't get your hopes up!), but worth looking into... from the info below, it seems like Taiwan doesn't have a double taxation treaty, but Taipei might. Bit weird, but hey ho:

ttp://www.treasury.gov.au/Policy-Topics/Taxation/Tax-Treaties/HTML/Income-Tax-Treaties

Thanks for that. I'll look into it. I am in Taipei. I suspect that the AU site just lists Taiwan as Taipei for political reasons, but it's worth checking out.

I'll check if there is a column for that on the forms here.

On a side note, one would have to get tax back from VB as they apply withholding tax to every sale, so I should be able to get back the full 30% on all non-US sales. In theory...

According to the tax e-mail from Canva, one can claim back the withholding tax in one's country. Does this apply to other agencies US withholding tax too?

DepositPhotos / DP is my oracle
« on: February 08, 2017, 04:19 »
I have decided DP is the ultimate oracle for telling me which photos I'm going to make money on.

Without fail, every time they reject a complete series with "The image is not suitable for commercial use," those photos become top sellers at other agencies.

Pond5 / Re: Do photos sell on Pond5 ?
« on: February 07, 2017, 22:05 »
I price my photos at $25 which seems a rough average of what agencies would sell for. Even selling only a few photos every two months still makes more money than most of the low earners.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: DeepMeta v3 Coming soon...
« on: February 06, 2017, 22:37 »
DeepMeta 3 looks good. The only issue I'm having is after attaching MRs, the file shows MR attached but when I go to upload the MR column shows "0." I'll see when they reviewed which column is incorrect.

This afternoon my old u/n and p/w were working and now it's redirecting to the new site, and login no longer works. Login worked fine on DM3 now.

I've got about 180 photos up on Arcangel and have not had a sale. It takes more time to build a portfolio there as they are far stricter with similars than micro sites.

It could be that they want the release to be in the official language of the country. Some agencies require that but I don't recall if SS is one of them. But, they don't have a standard release in Indonesian in their MR list.

There also quite a few fields missing, for example:
Photographer address
Photographer signature

Date signed for model section.

On a side note, you might want to blur out personal information posted online or models may not want to work with you in the future.

It's okay, its my wife, but this is the release from 123rf, its written that SS accepts it.
And they dont provide any information why they dont accept it.

They updated their policy on model releases recently and didn't bother to announce it properly. The "accepted releases" hasn't been updated to reflect it yet.

This article should clarify it

You could just make them the same. AFAIK, DT is the only agency that won't accept a file if the two fields are the same. I just add one or two words to elaborate and make it different enough for them to accept.

e.g.
Title:
Woman wearing headset eating salad and smiling with thumbs up.
Description:
Beautiful woman wearing headset eating healthy salad and smiling with thumbs up.

VideoBlocks / No Time Limit for Refunds
« on: January 15, 2017, 22:43 »
I accept that people buying clips that don't meet their needs does happen, but I just had a refund on VB for a clip I sold in October 2015. That's a bit ridiculous. How long does it take to figure out a clip isn't suitable?

Shutterstock.com / Reassign releases
« on: January 03, 2017, 23:28 »
I've updated my release form for SS's new criteria to include the video information. Now is it possible to reassign photos and videos from previous releases to a new one so all photos and video of a model will have the same MR?

There was a post recently where someone said they do 2 shoots per day. This got me wondering what is the average number of photoshoots people do per week (Any kind - people, food, travel, etc).

I work mostly with TFP models so my shoots tend to be erratic: Anything from once a week to once a month with occasional editorial or still life thrown in when I feel like it.

Excellent. FWIW, I also sent a DMCA notice to Ducksworth. Her PR people replied that it wasn't part of her presentation and was probably Hubert Koh's.
