Shutterstock.com / Re: Large image previews on SS ?
« on: October 30, 2015, 12:18 »
If i just type in shutterstock in my web browser and the website comes up. I am still able to search images without logging in. When I click on the small image preview box, the new window i get is to subscribe to one of their image plans. Am I the only one getting this and not the image preview box that most of you guys see? Maybe you guys have cookies that the website remembers who you are even if not logged in.

Common, those large previews are publicly available. Otherwise, how can Google index them?

I'd like that SS and all the other selective agencies would not accept pictures from compact cameras and mobile...  instead of refuse good pictures of rare landscapes, from a professional camera and lens

Subject really matters. Sometimes it's not so important how you capture it if it's one of few images available on an important subject.

I can explain you one of my personal experiences. I had a image taken inside of a underground tunnel, and it's very noisy due to high ISO. When I first submitted it to SS, they rejected it for noise. Then I noticed that there are no stock images taken inside that tunnel which is a quite important place. Then I resubmitted with all those explanations and they accepted it. As expected, it generated some sales. Just because it's the only stock image available on that subject.

Buyers don't care about how you capture it if they don't have any other options. If you submit images on sufficiently covered subject, I do think that SS should consider more about the technical quality.

It's very arrogant from SS not to deactivate their preview system until it's fully fixed. Google has already indexed those unprotected large images. Their behavior shows that they don't care about protecting our content if those big companies keep buying their subscriptions. Now anyone can download those images for free, remove so-called watermarks and use/resell them. When SS notice a drop, it will be too late. SS couldn't do anything to stop unauthorized image reselling in the past. Best thing they can do is protecting our content when they are at their hand. So pity to see that their worry has only limited to those fancy emails.

I don't think they will fix it.  They do what customers ask them to do, not contributors.
BTW, where is Vincent? :P

How do you got this search result page? This is not just any search but a custom one, this is what you mean by "small subset"? Did you search for all the keyword contained in the URL of this page? G00gle search result doesn't come in subsets, unless you put the keyword in there.

As I think, Kenny just wanted to mean that Google haven't indexed all those preview images yet. (Just my guess)

Anyone knows how to ignore all threads started by a particular user?

132
Is is better to upload a tiny batch of 10 or bulky ones of 100 at a time? And have you noticed any difference in sales by the number of images you upload?

died from overdrawn

Have you already created those high quality 1000 images? Impressive!

In the meantime, Google's publishing the "small subset of images".

OMG. This is all over now. SS, are you awake?

I don't think I'll submit anymore after seeing this.

New watermarks are on the new images.

No preview button on some of the new images. Good to see that they are working on it. However, why they cannot remove that preview thing from old images till they fix it?  :(

I just received a note from Lee that someone had pointed him to this post and they're closing my Canva account - "You are no longer welcome as a Canva contributor"

Sorry to hear that. Probably it's time to remove the link to Canva from your homepage.

My contributor application is still pending. Even if I get accepted, I'm not sure whether I really want to send any images to them after hearing all these stories. It seems like Canva is just another agency who forgot how contributors had supported them to grow up.

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it

Actually, I think that bigger preview might help to increase the sales

SS already has enough sales, they just don't pay us enough.

Vertical previews are blurry , how this helps for sales ?
It's just amateur job, zoom in its the best solution but they do not care

Spot on. Just an amateur job from SS, difficult to believe.

I received the same robot answer:

I got the same answer. This is really annoying now.

Meantime, I only got subs today (Friday), currently 51 subs in a row  >:(

Shutterstock.com / Re: Do SS ever respond to emails/messages??
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:46 »
Is it something regarding image reviews? Probably they don't respond to those emails since contributors are allowed to resubmit rejected content now. Just my guess.

They responded me within hours yesterday when I complained about their image preview system.

Are you on Moment or In house?
On GI forum, moment users post the pics they sold and their income every months. You can't be more transparent. For In-houses, there is no info.

Thanks for the info.
I just checked the forum. Seems not very impressive.

I joined Getty only few months before. By the end of first month I had less than 10 images with them and one got downloaded. By the end of 3rd month I had around 35 images. Nothing was downloaded in second or third months. Now I have around 50 images. I want to see how they do with these 50 images before uploading anymore. I would like to see how others do with them as well, but no one seems to be voting for them in monthly survey.

Edit: Sorry for being out of the topic, but I don't know the answer.

I noticed that 123RF had a similar preview system. But the previews are smaller and have very intense watermarks. This is very naive from SS. FT and IS do better in this regard.

Yes, mine too. Let's hope they're fixing this disaster.

I can access it and not yet fixed  :-[ >:(

Take no notice Yuri! Dont belittle yourself with any involvment with the MSG crowd, just jealousy and depression little people.

On track: myself and many established friends in this business are in fact doing extremely well with Adobe/FT! revenues have skyrocketted some 200% the agency/contributor communication is the best in the business.
Simply can not fault this partnership in any way. So, servers are a bit slow, well all agencies servers are slow. No big deal really.

Agree in regards to MSG as well. Sad to have to say goodbye to what was once a good forum, but now dominated by trolls and unrefined criticism towards basically all establishments. I invited all of them to put their critical comments into real arguments and post them here and I would gladly respond. Guess how many showed up Not one Happy to trash talk, but not to stand up for it.

Don't be so hurry to say good bye, you might want to come back to brag...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Wishing editorial on Fotolia
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:01 »
... why not on Fotolia.
If at all Fotolia will only remain as a backend for contributors in the future. The future is Adobe Stock and there is no place for editorial. People commenting on this thread should have a look at Adobe Stock or even better work with it!

FT is not all about Adobe stock.

And I totally agree with ShadySue, designers will find there content even if FT offer editorial. Don't you think that designers use SS?

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime dropped to Middle tier??
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:51 »
They seems to be back at top tier, but for how long....?
The poll here is totally irrelevant and I must say, it's very misleading, especially for new contributors. With just a few votes, everybody interested can push the results up.
In the last two month (for me) Dt should be in low earners category, almost as ineffective as CT.

In the past, even without sales, I could see many views on new uploads, while in the last two month view are as sparse as at CT. That clearly means no exposure.

It may be but no more misleading than any individual's experience. For me its roughly correct. If any one knows any better source I would love to know.

Yeah, percentage of income is roughly correct for me as well. And it's not just few votes, there need to be at least 50 votes.
