iStockPhoto.com / Re: PP Sales for Jun 2014 have started
« on: July 12, 2014, 07:23 »
I got some of the beginning of June. I'm new to Istock. Do they do the whole month at once, or do they start trickling in over time?

I'm having the hardest time figure out what's selling where, when and how much. Is there a good place to do that like on Shutterstock and most other sites?

Rob - They do the whole month (the previous month actually) in one go, but it usually takes about 3 to 4 days.

You may look into this thread for a script that provides you with the PP details. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=352385&page=1

The basic IS PP functionality will only give you the total PP sales that has occurred for an image so far. The script will give you the individual sale (how much and when) details. You will have to work backward based on the $-amount to see what kind of image pack sale it would have been :) You need to use this royalty schedule - http://www.istockphoto.com/help/sell-stock/rate-schedule

I am beginning to see standard PP sales (from TS) starting at the beginning of Jun-2014.

I see one for 30-Jun

Nothing else other than the 30-Jun. It appears on the 'Stats' page barchart as PP, but I am not able to find the corresponding sale on the 'Partner Program' page for a specific image. Also, in the 'Financials' page the total is updated for 'Account Balance' but not 'Total Earnings'. I am not sure exactly what is happening. Let me give it a few days :)

In the PP thread for Jun-2014 over at iS, it is being said that these are PP sales for Editorial images. I discovered for the 1st time today that the 'Partner Program' page does NOT list the editorial images ! So, I had to switch to 'Details' and clicked on the 'Editorial image' icon to bring the editorial images to the top of the page. Since I use script by 'theasis' on 'my uploads' (for Google Chrome), I clicked on the down arrow next to the column 'Royalties' and could find the $0.28 PP sale. Of course it is the total sales, and there is no way to know which of the editorial images have sold on which date under PP.

If anyone knows the trick/tip to find out the PP sale details of editorial images (using the 'theasis' script or any other way), please let us know. It will be very helpful.

Until the chap who manages submit@shutterstock is brought before the inner circle and explains his failure to hit query resolution targets is due to rocketing rejection disputes - nothing will change.

So it sounds like you're not really wanting to compete with Stocksy.  You just want to emulate it without a USP.

... Sorry, repeat information as the above post from cuppacoffee :-)

Congrats Kathi ! I sure can understand the excitement :)

Yes. There was an 'Opt Out' checkbox under 'Profile' and I had seen it. I checked it up yesterday and it seems to have been removed. I did check in a few other places, but could not find it.

Thanks all for the helpful posts :) The better option would be to keep the shoot-upload-shoot cycle going !

Thanks Mantis, Sue and Ed for the varied and interesting responses :)

Hi all - In the SS forum, there was a post where the contributor was urging folks to stop complaining about sales and go out and shoot. And in his/her words shoot as much as possible when the sun is up and the trees have leaves. Definitely good advice. :)

My question is as we shoot more and more, do we continue to upload or reduce the uploads or stop them totally until the slowdown stops (apparently in September) ? To me it seems that unless the images are summer themed, it perhaps is a good idea to stop the uploads until September. At a time, when new uploads seem to get hardly any sales during peak time, it seems to be a greater risk to upload new ones and hope for sales during the slowdown.

Yes, I had the same problem with one of my vectors last night. I re -uploaded it and it went through. Then i deleted the old one. They obviously have a glitch going on.

Thanks Shelma1 ! I reuploaded 3 times and unfortunately it did not solve the problem for me. I will wait and try again later (AM of Canadian time).

I tried again and the submit was successful. I got the email and the two vectors appear under the tab "images waiting for review" :)

« on: June 16, 2014, 06:40 »
Hi everyone - I have been trying to submit 2 vectors since today morning. I have attempted about 5 times. I am able to upload (via WebForm), add description, keywords and categories. After adding a note to the reviewer, when I submit, I get a message "An error occurred while submitting your photos". I use Google Chrome. So, I tried using Internet Explorer and I am getting the same message.

Is anyone else facing a similar situation ? Or am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

what should be the minimum size of 25 sample images ? and as it is for evaluation purpose so can one send images which are already on any other site ?

I'm not sure about the number of sample images but yes, you can submit images for your application that are already on other sites.

Just to understand this better. The sample images after review will get approved for sale (like SS) or they are just part of the application to get approved (like iS where the sample images need to get submitted again for getting into sale).

I think it should be just part of application like IS if stocksy has not changed the rule what were there last year, so following some old stocksy threads here, its for application purpose and if you are accepted as stocksy photographer once, you have to submit again so that they can be reviewed before including to the stocksy collection. If its not so then any stocksy member kindly correct me.

Thanks gemmy12 ! Good to know !

iStockPhoto.com / Re: "Copy Tags" and Keywords in IS ?
« on: June 08, 2014, 09:28 »
I have been trying to correct/fine tune my keywords in IS. When I try to edit an image, other than the standard tabs "Keywords" and "Detailed Categories" a third tab "Copy Tags" appears. If I select the tab, I see a list of keywords and it appears that it is the list post disambiguation. BUT, there is a button "update" that appears at the end of the keywords. Could anyone please tell me:
1. What are these "Copy Tags" and why do they appear only during "Edit" ?
2. What is the purpose of the "update" button in the "Copy Tags" tab ?

Thanks in advance for any responses :)
The copy tags means you can copy your tags between one image and another/others.
(But make sure you check them to make sure they're all relevant to the new images).
1. I'm not sure when else they'd be useful.
2. If you add or remove any more keywords to/from copy tags, updating puts these words into your keyword list ready for disambiguating.

Thanks Sue ! this clarifies that my updates to the keywords (via Deep Meta) are fine. Thanks for the clarity :)

Are you using Deepmeta? They make it soooo easy to do that. This iStock website submission process is excruciatingly slow and complex.

Yes Striving. I just started using DeepMeta. Since I am using it new, I was trying to check if the updates (especially the order of keywords) are getting into IS. It was then I stumbled upon this "Copy Tags" and the update button. Since they were new to me, I am trying to check if someone may have any answers :)

The uploaded images appear in the 'Content overview' but if I click on 'edit submitted images', I get the same error again.

It is OK now !
