Alamy.com / Clarity on Attributes to make an image ready
« on: October 07, 2015, 00:15 »
I have been submitting a good % of my RF images to Alamy (as RF). I have a few images that I have to add keywords and make the right choices in the 'Attributes' tab. I have a few questions that pertain to the 'people' and 'property' aspects:

a. I have an image of a photographer's shadow on beach sand. For 'people' (How many people are in this image), I should choose '0 people'; right ? My reason is that it is not the silhouette; just the shadow. Please let me know if I should not choose '0 people' even though it is a shadow.

b. I have other images on the same public beach (no people). For 'property' (Does this image contain property that needs a release for commercial use ?), I should choose 'No'; right ? Or should I choose 'Yes' since the image is of a property (public beach in this case).

Thanks in advance for any additional clarity and answers  :)

My FT port is less than 400 and my overall rating which started at 60,000 two years ago has now reached 28,000. My weekly rating moves between 10,000 and 20,000. What I find surprising is that to move from 20,000 to 10,000, I require only about 4-5 sales in that week (and most of the time, it does not happen) :)

I guess the conclusion I take is that, while I love reading about everyone's experiences, as in life, your most important competitor is yourself. I take a look at the types of images ("stories") I tell that do well, and do more of them.
...
I agree :)

There seems to be a new sub-$0.28 PP sale that I see in Aug-2015. It is for $0.19 and the Partner site is given as "Partner Portal". Does anyone know what this "Partner Portal" is ?
Thank you Sue :)

I get "This webpage is not available" when I try to get to www.stockiste.com via Chrome and IE. Is it only me or has the site been pulled back ?

Just to add to their review and response-to-queries' costs, it appears that the "categories missing" problem has resurfaced. I got a rejection for "Incorrect category" and when I submitted a query, I got a response (which appears to be written in a hurry), that only the title had the relevant information. This had led me to infer that my categories that appeared to be intact at the time of submission, had vanished in their system after that.

So, for now, I am telling myself to double-check all items (categories / illustration flag etc.) just prior to submitting the images. Beyond that, we cannot do much :)

Sorry if I'm repeating mysefbut....
how do you see how many files are still remaining and actually - alive?  Please.
https://www.canva.com/<your brand name>
- this will tell you how many of your images are available as of today for customers to use in their designs
- this wont tell you how many are 'pending cut out' or 'rejected'; for that you need to click on 'View portfolio' under 'Your account' after you have logged in

This happens sometimes, they'll turn up :)

I had a $5 bump last Friday with 2 sales and it was more than 48 hours later (on sunday) for the details (the two files that sold) to show up :)

Is there any way to find out which photo was sold via the PP? It's not listed with the regular credit sales. I agree with you that IS's royalty reporting system is frustratingly opaque.

There is a 3rd party script that runs on Google chrome. The old forum (which will go away end of this month), has the details. You can follow this link to read more about it: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=352385&page=1

Since the old forum is going away, I am also going ahead and pasting the link to access the 3rd party script: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/istock-myuploads-fixes/ckloododgagaeepfamopjnjgbhbanlcg

I got a few of the 'sub rate SOD' yesterday and today. I think it is the Facebook SODs which probably may not be realtime. I checked back and I could see a similar set of 3 days (from 18-Nov-2014 through 20-Nov-2014) where there were a few 'sub rate SOD's.

« on: June 26, 2015, 11:27 »
OK just got my e-mail from Getty that I was paid ... yes ... $99.58.  So I guess the $100 minimum means close to $100.  No complaints.   ;D
No, they are based in US now and keep 30% tax for US sales.

While true for non-US contributors, I am in the US and nothing was withheld from the payment.  This was my actual total earnings (such as it was) at the close of May 30, 2015.
I thought US contributors get to fill the W9 and no part of the income is withheld. At the end of the year, a 1099 is sent with the total earnings for the year on which taxes are paid (to the US as US person).

That is correct.  We fill out a W-9 and nothing is withheld (with a few special exceptions).  The 1099 is only required to be sent if the yearly earnings amount to $600 or more.  It is sent to both the contributor and to the IRS.  Earnings less than $600 are the responsibility of the contributor to report to the IRS.   ;)
Thanks w7lwi for the additional clarity !

Could anyone please tell me if there is any request that needs to be made to 123RF for payment ? I have given my paypal account in the site and have crossed the payment limit that I had set earlier. Just want to know if any specific request (or any other action) is required for payment. Thanks in advance !

Completed the W8-BEN form. It was quick and easy.

I always thought that 123RF was a company based in the UK. Did I miss any information that they have moved to / bought by an US company ?

I had a couple of $85 sales there today.  First time ever this happened.  AFAIK I am not part of any special test program.  Was this just luck or maybe the new program is being tested with contributors who didn't know it?
It should be that you have very good images :)

« on: June 16, 2015, 08:01 »
Wow!

I am shocked at how many NEGATIVE post have come out of this great news... Maybe that's why I come less often on this forum. All contributors have been stating about the cut in the commissions in Fotolia. Now that we have big increase and receive a 1/3 commission along with a new platform to generate revenue, most of you still find place to complain instead of taking one small moment to say Thank You to Adobe for taking a step forward in fixing a flawed system.

Cheer up everyone! :)
Is it a pay raise?  750 images for $199 means you would get something like 8 or 9 cents per sale doesn't it?
If you look into this link (https://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Royalties) that Mat had given on page 1, it appears that "Adobe Stock - 750 images per month" will give the "Minimum guarantee" which starts at 25 cents. On the same page in Adobe FT words "Get 33% on every sale on a Fotolia subscription or on Adobe Stock. Actual payout will depend on the price of the image paid by the buyer. Minimum guarantee applies to make sure contributors are always fairly compensated, whatever the price is."

This is my take reading the link; I hope we will be able to get a reply from Mat on this.

Did anyone else's ranking position changed? I had a "bronze" medal, for "658" downloads. Now I just checked, and apparently I have silver medal, despite having less than 1000 downloads. And when I go with a mouse on silver medal icon, it says only 9,342 more sales needed for next (gold) level.

Mat's post had this part about how sub sales also will count for 1 sale and not 0.25 sale.

...
In addition, all subscription sales at Fotolia and Adobe Stock will be equal to one full download towards your rank. This gives you an opportunity to jump through the ranks and increase your income at a much faster rate. All you have to do is continue to submit your images through Fotolia.

It appears that they may retroactively recalculate the number of downloads which will bump many to higher levels. Hopefully Mat will confirm this when he comes back online.

My total downloads which are taken for ranking has now been updated to the total of the sales in credits plus sales with subscription. But the bump was not sufficient for a jump in level :)

You are right Sue ! I have even added a note to Pond5 stating that I dont plan to submit a color image and the B&W image is the only one for sale; yet they have still gone on to reject. But the rest of the agencies are open to B&W images and they do sell. Only less than 5% of my images are sold as B&W.

Hmmmmmm, They take Mine.I tell them if they wanna make money they should...LOL
I agree Laurin ! I am sure they know the value of your work and experience and they are doing the right thing by listening to you :)

May I know is it Black and white photos saleable in stock agency?Actually I took some photos from taiwan street, after edited just realized black and white is better than color image.Just wonder can try to submit in black and white?thanks

Regards,
Grace
I have submitted B&W images to stock (SS, iS, FT, DT, 123RF & CanStockPhoto) when I feel that the B&W image has more impact than the color. They have also sold a few times. Pond5 does not accept B&W images; they believe it should be up to the buyer to change it to B&W :)
It's funny to make that sort of assumption about a buyer's ability when a proportion of them don't know how to resize an image for the web.

pixsol, thanks for the info.  Although I use the word 'cull' I shall probably just leave any uploaded images 'active' and cut down on the number of agencies I actually upload to.

Once they are there I might as well leave them unless I decide to go exclusive with another.  Although I think that's unlikely. :)
OK. And that is what I ended up doing too after DT's 'antics' were discovered :)

I shall continue to upload and give each agency a couple of months before I consider a 'cull'.
With DT, you cannot 'cull' as in delete your images. At best, you can only disable them. Just FYI.
