iStockPhoto.com / Re: I am impressed with TS ( I mean PP)
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:53 »
I check my portfolio in TS (and photos.com) by searching using my iStock user name (not my name). Please give that a try.

And not all my iStock port is in TS; only 25% has been mirrored.

Symbiostock - General / Re: Is Symbiostock a con?
« on: July 22, 2013, 06:44 »

Actually despite the initial problem, getting back to the customer quickly did more than resolve the issue. Here's the email I got from him afterwards:

Quote
Thank you for all your support, this is the way to have a forever customer!

Actually this goes with my experience of dealing with customers when the IT systems that we support go wrong. When a problem occurs, we do all the necessary non-IT steps like talking to the customer, explaining the problem and ensuring that we fix the wrong that was done. Many times we also do a followup a few days/weeks down the line to see if the customer has faced any other issues. This has ensured that the customer does not lose trust in us.

Pond5 / Disable/Delete an image in Pond5
« on: July 20, 2013, 12:00 »
Hi - Could anyone please tell me how to disable/delete an 'Online' image in Pond5 ? I need to remove one of my images from my port out there.

I tried the 'delete' option. Nothing happened. I also selected the image and tried the 'remove from collection' at the bottom of the page. Nothing happened again.

Thanks in advance :-)

Pond5 / Re: No Tax Forms at Pond5
« on: July 20, 2013, 01:58 »
Thanks PhotoGirl ! I saw that thread to. Then my #2 question becomes valid ! but I guess I will have lots of time :-) I am seeing the comments from Gillian and also have seen many with amazing ports reporting no/hardly-any sales.

I will look to see how to handle this if the agency wont do it on their own. If I find out something, I will  post an update.

Pond5 / Re: No Tax Forms at Pond5

Thanks Beppe. When I called up support last week, the person did mention that they have offices in NYC and Geneva but was not able to tell me if the NYC office was the head quarters or the Genava one. So, I did not get to conclude whether Pond5 was US based or not.

No problem. If I get any more clarity in the future, I will post it here.

Pond5 / Re: No Tax Forms at Pond5

Thanks Beppe. Yes, I did ask them. The reply I got from them was: Thanks for you inquiry! We do not withhold any money for taxes, so you would need to estimate your taxes on earnings from your end.

My thinking is that this would be OK if they are NOT an US agency. But if they are (which I am not sure), then I am not sure if they can do without the withholding.

Pond5 / No Tax Forms at Pond5
« on: July 12, 2013, 01:20 »
I am only three months into the world of Microstock and still in the process of understanding the various nuances. I have a question about the fact that there were no tax forms (W9 or W8-BEN) to fill at Pond5.

My limited understanding of the stock agencies tell me that all US-based ones will mandate a tax form. This is what happened to me with SS, DT and FT. The non-US-based ones will not have to do that and I did not have to fill any for iStock, CanStock or 123RF.

Based on what I gathered from Pond5, they appear to be an US-agency. But they do not have a Tax section to fill out W9 or W8-BEN forms. My question is:
1. Am I correct in my understanding that Pond5 is a US Agency ?
2. If #1 is 'YES', then what should non US-persons (like me) do about the US withholding tax as Pond5 clarified that they will NOT do any withholding ?

Thanks in advance for any additional clarity.

Thanks ruxpriencdiam for the additional information and clarity !

Thanks again Microstock Posts ! Yes, I do them in order for relevancy at FT and I did the same for SS. It is just that it had been reordered alphabetically (in SS). Just wanted to confirm. Thanks !

I have another query regarding SS keywords. SS seems to order the keywords (and phrases) alphabetically even though I submit them in an order of relevancy. Is it OK ? Will if affect the search in any way ? Thanks !

Thank you Microstock Posts. That clarifies. As you said, SS removes the quotes and so, there is no scenario where a keyword phrase will appear within quotes. I tried it just now and it works the way you said (quotes are being removed).

I also understand your point about ensuring that my images dont appear in irrelevant searches by using keyword phrases appropriately. Thanks !

Hi all

I am new to Shutterstock. I have a query regarding the use of keyword phrases and its impact on the search results. What would happen in the following three scenarios if the user searched using the two words - clay & pot:
1. The image has two separate keywords -> clay & pot
2. The image has the keyword phrase -> clay pot
3. The image has the keyword phrase in quotation marks -> "clay pot"

Thanks for any clarity on this.
