Symbiostock - General / Re: Symbiostock Forum?
« on: May 04, 2015, 09:18 »
OK, now I'm really confused.  I guess I've been away from the forums for too long!

When did Leo sell Symbiostock?

I just received an email titled "Demo the new Symbiostock" just last week.  Did Robin also create the "new" Symbiostock?

Symbiostock - General / Symbiostock Forum?
« on: May 04, 2015, 08:57 »
What happened to the Symbiostock forums?

None of the links on Symbiostock.com work.

Symbiostock.org and Symbiostock.net don't seem to exist anymore.

I thought that the following article on the photography business was very well done:

New Sites - General / Re: Free Websites at Coversplash
« on: July 09, 2014, 09:52 »
Just so people are aware...

The free option has the following details:

    70% commission
    $20 pricing cap
    30 uploads per week

The $5.25 / month option has the following details:

    80% commission
    $100 pricing cap
    60 uploads per week

The $7.00 / month option has the following details:

    100% commission
    No pricing cap
    Unlimited uploads
Built-in E-commerce (Does this mean the other options don't have e-commerce?)

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Sitemap generator
« on: June 02, 2014, 09:06 »
Here is my understanding:

The Symbiostock sitemap generator only works on Symbiostock sites (so it won't work on your site if it isn't a Symbiostock site).  It is also an additional cost ($15).

See here for more info:

Here are a couple of free sitemap generators:

Dreamstime.com / Re: "Confidential" email from Dreamstime
« on: June 01, 2014, 15:56 »
Having worked in the "real" business world for over 50 years, much of it as an executive for a multi-national corporation, I know the idea of giving away samples of one's product for a limited time is a proven way to encourage people to try and then buy your product(s).  This appears to be the approach DT is taking, although on a more limited scale.

But DT isn't giving their products away, they want to give our products away.

You can try and Google the email addresses to see if they are legit.

Off Topic / Re: Please help searching for airplane
« on: March 12, 2014, 11:51 »
Instead of editing photos and looking for sensor dust on our photos, let's spend some time to help searching for the missing Malaysian airline plane. I guess we all got very sharp eyes which could be especially useful in this case. Here's the link:

The site doesn't seem to work in Google Chrome.  It works fine in IE.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Different prices?
« on: March 03, 2014, 09:58 »
Still, sometimes it goes up to to 2100 images, others only to 1900 and others even less.

It sounds like a timeout of some sort (where the process is taking over a certain amount of time that is a threshold).

Symbiostock - General / Symbiostock.org Forums Are Back
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:41 »
FYI: I just went to the Symbiostock.org forums (@ http://www.symbiostock.org/community) and found that they are open (and available for new posts / replies).

Leo: Thanks for opening the forums back up.  I think that is a great move for the community as a whole.  Blessings.

Too bad when an anonymous poll was put up on the SY forum (its probably gone by now because anything negative gets deleted) only 42 people responded and the majority of the respondents of that poll only had one or two sales so far.

FYI, the poll is still available @ http://www.symbiostock.org/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=973

Symbiostock - General / Re: Symbiostock Co-op Launched
« on: February 11, 2014, 13:38 »
Just wondering...

Will each artist have a separate WP installation / database?  If so, then how will the URLs work?

Or will it be one WP installation / database / URL for all artists?

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Blue host down again? Sick of it
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:38 »

BlueHost, HostMonster, HostGator, all run on the same servers and all are garbage hosting companies. I really don't know why so many folks recommend them...

Probably because of referrals.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: PP started for December - finally!

Is there any way to see details for PP?  Like which images sold on which dates?

I would be honored if you think that my website would be useful.

I pray that you have a blessed day Leo!

Did they announce this change anywhere?  If so, did they say why they have done this?

cascoly:

I admire your fortitude, but I think that your trying to bite off something that is extremely difficult.

Here are just a few questions that come off the top of my head:

How would backups be handled for the website?  With a lot more images comes a lot more data and that would be more difficult to backup.  If the website crashes and data is lost, I'm sure that people will be upset.

How would taxes be handled?  Are 1099s going to be sent out to those that are participating?  Does that mean that they need to send their personal info (such as social security number, home address, etc) to you?  If so, how will that information be made secure (against hackers such as the Target fiasco)?  Will you handle VAT for those in areas that require it?

How will images be sorted on the website (for the "Best Match")?  I'm sure that everyone will want their images to show up first and nobody wants to be on page 53.  How will you prevent the system from being gamed?  For example, if the number of times an image is viewed is a part of the formula for "Best Match", then how will you prevent people from setting up programs that will add views to an image and thus improve their visibility?

Who will determine pricing?  Will there be set pricing across the board across all images?  Or will each individual artist set their own pricing?

Who will handle customer service?  If a customer bought the wrong image or the wrong size, are you going to handle all of these requests?

Anyhow, those are just a FEW of the questions that you will need to think about.

Good luck in your venture.

Is there any updates on the video side?

I believe that Leo stated that he is creating a new version that will sell video (as well as other media), but it will take a while to finish.

Symbiostock - Development Area / Re: Licensing Must be Addressed
« on: November 22, 2013, 07:17 »
I can understand the all different part too, as a buyer moves from site to site, and finds, each one has a different license. Confusing, complicated could be a negative.

I don't really like to compare Symbiostock to the major microstock sites (since I believe that the customers are very different), but the same is true of them as well.  A license on IS is different than SS which is different than DT which is different than FT which is different than 123RF, ad infinitum.
