Symbiostock - General / Re: Video Plugin
« on: August 25, 2013, 15:00 »
I don't know if this has been asked already. Is there a video plugin available for Symbiostock?

No, not yet, but I'm sure that someone will develop one at some point.

152
Congratulations!

Hopefully I'll get my first sale soon.

So just to be clear, if I want my images to show this way: images that I uploaded first (older date) to show up on the first page, and the images that I just uploaded recently to show on the last page (newer date), which order should they appear in, ASC or DESC?

To order dates from oldest to newest, you would use ASC (ascending) order.

I'm just not sure what field the search is ordering on.

I just checked at it seems to be ordering search results on the date (if you set $image_rank_update == false as suggested above), so if you set the order to ASC then it should show your images from oldest to newest.

...I added the code from Ron's link to network-manager.php and the sort order remains ASC not DESC.

I just did a search on your site (for "food") and the images look like they are in DESC order.

I just said that everything is ok, than I updated Symbiostock to 2.5.6 and got again white screen.....Help!

Did you do anything else after Leo got it working (install plugins, update plugins, etc)?

I know it's too late now... but anytime someone plans on updating a plugin or theme or anything else, they should always take a backup.  This way if something breaks, they can "roll back".  The good news is that your site is kind of still in "beta".  So problems at this point don't affect sales or customers getting annoyed and never returning.

157
At least it's almost done indexing the site urls so maybe my images will start getting indexed more this week.

For some reason, site URLs get indexed much faster than images.

158
Site maps are dynamic, they get updated on the sever. SYS sitemap is never outdated.

Yes, but you still need to submit them to the search engine websites.  And if you add more images or make changes after they are submitted, then you need to resubmit them.

Nobody here?

Patience, grasshopper, patience.  Between your first post and this one it has barely been an hour.

I have tried all the alternatives, seems that the symbiostock zip not working and the Bluehost assistance cannot help me, they say is the Symbiostock developer which has to help me....

What version of WordPress are you using?  If 3.6, then I would try and uninstall 3.6 and install 3.5.2 (which you can find here: http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/)

Then make sure that you are using the latest version of php 5.3.

I would also be interested in knowing if the people who are selling most are those with many network connections as opposed to those of us with only ten. And i would be interested to hear if those who just added the global search to their network saw an increase in sales.

I thought ten was the limit?

I thought it was too but in another thread people were saying they added more. I am not sure how, unless that feature was added for a select few and wasnt distributed generally.  Maybe i misunderstood something. I think it was the thread about adding the global search to our networks. I havent checked my network page recently to see if its possible to add more but i am still at 2.5.5. I thought i downloaded 2.5.6 from leos SY website, but when i install it, the details still say 2.5.5. Cant seem to get any answers.  :(

I took a look at the code.  If I am reading it correctly, it seems that there used to be a limit of 10 network links way back at the beginning of May, but the limit was removed.  So it looks like you can add as many network links as you want, but I believe that every link you add will slow down your website slightly (since it has to connect to the other Symbiostock website and then add the extra images).

disable the plugin "Related Posts By Taxonomy" only this, the page goes from 2/3 seconds faster. to deactivate the plugin, I saw nothing unusual on the web.

I believe that the "Related Posts by Taxonomy" plugin is used by the Symbiostock Similar Images widget.  This is probably why you have a section on your image page called Similar Images and nothing is showing.

164
Now that Symbiostock has crossed the 100,000 image barrier, what is your guess to how many total Symbiostock images there will be (as displayed on Symbiostock.info) by the end of the year (12/31/2013 11:59 PM GMT)?

My guess is 250,000.

Symbiostock is starting to pick up speed and grow exponentiallly.

I think that it is amazing that it is growing so fast.

This is just a testimony to what a great application Leo created.

166
Has anyone updated the Related Posts by Taxonomy plugin to version 0.2?

If so, any feedback?

2.6.

2.6  ???

I thought that the latest public version was 2.5.6

On the image page, where a customer clicks the radio button for the size image they want to buy, is a button that says Download. I think that should say Add to Cart. If it says Download, I would expect to click that to download the image, but that isn't what happens.

When a customer clicks a radio button (next to one of the image sizes), it actually adds it to the cart automatically.

The "DOWNLOAD" button doesn't add it to the cart, it actually brings the customer to the cart.

So it might be better to change the text to "REVIEW CART" (or something similar).

169
Just curious does the layout actually break in IE8 or the margins just noticeably different?

I recently upgraded IE from version 8 to 10, but I had the same issue previously.  If I remember correctly, the left and right margins are larger in IE8, which only displays four images in a row for the widgets (as opposed to six images in a row for all of the other browsers).

170
Whether the additional page is required and if it causes issues with SEO would be questions for Leo (or someone that understands the architecture and internal workings of the theme).

171
My question wasn't why two image versions are being created.
My question is why two different pages (with the same image but different text content) are being created. Especially since one of these seems not to do anything good.

To use your example:

Useful page: http://shazamimages.com/image/perfect-blue-water-drop/
Useless page: http://shazamimages.com/image/perfect-blue-water-drop/stock-image-perfect-blue-water-drop/

I'm not exactly sure if both pages are REQUIRED, but the second page can be viewed as an "attachment" and the first page can be viewed as a "post".

172
Why is this additional page being generated that looks like this...?

When you upload and process an image, two additional images are created: a thumbnail and a preview / watermarked version.

The preview / watermarked version is given a title of "Royalty Free Content: "... (in the database).

In order to change this, you would need to make a code change (for future images) and then update the database (for previously uploaded images).

I made the changes, since I wanted to remove the verbiage "Royalty Free" from my website, and changed it to "Stock Image".

You can take a look at one of my sample images here:

http://shazamimages.com/image/perfect-blue-water-drop/stock-image-perfect-blue-water-drop/

The pattern is http://yourdomain.com/image/your-image-title/royalty-free-content-your-image-title/ .

Actually, the pattern will only look like that if you don't change the permalink of your image from when it was originally uploaded.  If you upload the image and then change the permalink, then it will have a slightly different URL.

Not without modifying the code.

Symbiostock / Re: Can Symbiostock ever be bought out?
« on: August 20, 2013, 16:32 »
Since Wordpress is always updating, I assume someone actually has to man the ship (code) occasionally.

Just because WordPress upgrades doesn't mean that you would need to upgrade.  The website will continue to work without upgrading.

175
How does that affect the search on my site in terms of how it shows on the page and speed?

I'm not sure exactly what your question is referring to, but the symbiostock.info search is extremely fast.  I have added it to my search network and it doesn't seem to affect speed at all.
