I have attached screen dumps from pc and laptop. The laptop has a huge list of categories. I dont know how to remove them. to move the rotating banner up that you can see on the desktop pc

On both my laptop and desktop, they look like the second image (with the huge list of categories).

My symbiostock site looks totally different on desktop vs laptop. It doesn't look good on laptop at all. I can't understand this. Also, I don't know how to correct it.

I took a look at your site from my laptop and desktop and it looked the same.

Can you be a little more specific?  What (specifically) doesn't look good on the laptop that does look good on the desktop?

i keep getting all these weird changes to my website. I thought i was done with the setup.

This might happen if your host has to reload your website from a backup.  In other words, if the server crashes and they need to rebuild it from scratch, they will most likely rebuild it from backups.  And the backups might not contain the most recent changes that you made.

Try editing one of his eye images and change the date to sometime tomorrow.  See if that will make it show up in the Latest Images.

Try this:

<your website>/?s=&post_type=image

Make sure you install Askimet. Askimet catches on average 40 to 50 spam comments per day for me.

Yes, i deleted 172 spams a couple of days ago. Which brings up a question...on each of those spams, to the right, was one of my photos, as tho the spam is a comment on a photo. But i have been turning off comments and pingbacks in the image upload window. Can anyone explain why? Is there another setting somewhere i have missed?

I took a look at your website and didn't see anywhere to add a comment.  So I then did a Google search and found this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Acathyslifestockphotos.com+comment&oq=site%3Acathyslifestockphotos.com+comment&aqs=chrome.0.69i57j69i58.2844j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

The Latest Posts widget uses the date field to figure out the order of the displayed images.  If you edit the image and then immediately publish it, then it will go to the front of the Latest Posts widget.  But if you edit the image and then save it and don't publish it until later, the date field will contain the date from when you edited it first.  When you publish the image later, it will use the date that it was first edited rather than the date it was published.

The good news is that you can manually change the date for any image to "force" it to show up in the Latest Images.

OK, now this is not correct. He uploaded, edited, and published all at the same time, and the problem is still as I described it.

Also, *I* went in and edited a few of his images after we discovered the problem, and I did change some of the dates to make them very recent, but they still never appeared.

I never spotted a way to change the author tag in his photos, so I think this is related to the idea that there cannot be two contributors. The only thing I can see different between his photos and mine is the user name.

Further thoughts?

Please give us a link to an example photo that is not showing up in Latest Images (that you believe should be).

I set up a site, http://bandkmedia.com which seems to be working OK finally, except for one issue. I have a partner who will be submitting images as well.  That's the "B" and "K" in the name :)

The problem is, that on the image pages, all photos have my name on them.

For example, http://bandkmedia.com/image/eyelove9/?r=http://bandkmedia.com down below the photo it says "Brian Schell" and links to an author page for me. But I didn't take the photo, I didn't upload it, my partner did.

AFAIK, you can only setup one "Author" on Symbiostock.

On the other hand, something more serious has presented itself:

He uploaded and processed a batch of files yesterday, and they are in the system as they should be. They appear in the search and are purchasable. They don't however, show up on the homepage under "Latest Posts." I posted an image hours after he did, and it shows right up on the homepage as it should.

Symbiostock just doesn't like him?

First off, I would like to say "Thank You!" to Leo, and everyone else that helped make this project come to life, for their very hard work in making the Symbiostock theme, and for the generosity in making it an open-source project.  This project has given me back the passion that I used to have for creating images (which I lost over the years as the major stock sites have short-changed us time and time again).

I have been working on creating a new Symbiostock website for the last few weeks.  It isn't finished yet (will it ever be?), but I think that it is ready to open up to others.  I don't have all of my images up yet, but I thought that there were enough images for someone to get the look and feel of the website.

I was hoping that some of you could take a look at the website and give me some constructive criticism and feedback.  After you look at something day after day, you can overlook some things that should be relatively apparent.  I am hoping that a fresh set of eyes will be able to see things that I have overlooked.

In addition, I have made a few modifications to the code and would like to get your opinions on them.  Here are some of the changes that I have made:

- I have added text above each image thumbnail to show whether it is exclusive.  See here for an example:
http://shazamimages.com/image-type/exclusive-category/

- I have added a section below each watermarked image (called "Notes Regarding This Image") that includes text about licensing and watermarks.  See here for an example:
http://shazamimages.com/image/fractal-infinite-wall-records-cds/?r=http://shazamimages.com

- I have removed all references to "Royalty Free" from the website.  I never liked that term and think that it is very confusing to customers.

- Since I wanted to make this a pure stock image sales site, I removed all references to blogs and comments.

- I changed the number of images displayed for most of the widgets and search results.  For example, I felt that displaying 24 images for a search result was too little, so I increased it to 48 images.  You can see that here:
http://shazamimages.com/?s=&post_type=image

- I changed the default image sizes, since I felt that I wanted to be in line with what most of the major competition is doing.  I would eventually like to make this customer-definable.

Please let me know what you think.  I would greatly appreciate any and all constructive feedback that you might have.

Finally, I was hoping that a few of you would be so kind as to add my website to your network.  I would be extremely honored.

I tried to take a look at your website, but I couldn't get in after about 10 tries.

I turned off photo comments too, but I get them everyday...

djpadavona:

I just went to your site and looked at an image and there is a link to "Leave a comment" on the right-hand side under the similar images and web links.

Underneath that there is another section called "Leave a Reply" that has fields for Name, Email, Website, & Comment.

That might explain why you are getting a lot of spam...

Thanks Ron! This have been stop me for using bulk action. But now I want to enable comment for all images, I need to use the bulk action, if confirm it won't affect the SEO I will just ignore the red status, it is too much work if need to click update for all image.

It must be analyses only. But it does explain a lot. I had the same thing happening to a bunch of images. And could never figure out why only those. But now I know, that were the only images I batch edited. Problem is, you need to go back to every image and click update for it to turn yellow or green again. But I figured its only an analyses, because the SEO is all still there.

That Yoast status measures your page content in relation to the focus keyword(s) you set. That's just to show YOU how good your SEO is when someone searches for the keyword(s) you have defined. Change that keyword and Yoast will give you a different status. And I guess that's what's happening when you bulk edit. But there's no reason to worry because your page content will still be the same (good or bad).

Are you sure that's all what defining a focus keyword does? I always thought that focus keyword would be included in some meta data on the image page. Can someone more familiar with the internals of Yoast SEO confirm one or the other version?

I just did a quick test and the YOAST Focus Keyword does not show up on the image page at all (and I verified this by reviewing the page source to confirm this).  This was news to me as well!

263
Warnings are still there...

Did you make any code changes?  Or download any "fixes" from GitHub?

264
Seems to be the nextgen gallery..........Would this be because I changed from gd livrary to imagemajick yesterday?

I highly doubt it.

Does the next gen gallery need to be activated? or can i run without it?

No, it isn't required by Symbiostock.

I dont know what it does

The NextGen Gallery is used for creating slideshows (see here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/)

Which version are you using?

ajt:  Do you know when you stopped receiving this info from those sites?  Did they all stop on the same day?  Or did they stop at separate times?

Symbiostock - Hosting / Re: Installing ImageMagick
« on: August 05, 2013, 14:35 »
You could try to please with support to install it, or you could switch hosts.  BTW, who is your host?

267
Debug info is for developers.  If you don't know what it is, then don't worry about it.

Symbiostock - Hosting / Re: Installing ImageMagick
« on: August 05, 2013, 13:14 »
this is what I received from my support:

We do not support imagick.so PHP module on the shared hosting  . You can use the ImageMagick binaries like /usr/bin/convert . I have seen most scripts offer to call the ImageMagick binaries directly and you will have the provision to define the path to these binaries.

Help!!!

My understanding is that Symbiostock checks to see if the ImageMagick php module is loaded.  If it is loaded, then it will use it.  If it isn't loaded, then it will use the GD library.

269
Do you have debug info on?

270
I don't want to hijack this thread but... what is ImageMagick and why do we need it??

Just Googled it. Way too complicated for my ol' brain to understand.

I use LR and (as needed) Photoshop and am happy with that combination. Are you saying I now need to add ImageMagick just so my metadata will accompany my images to their destination? I really don't want to have to install and learn another program just to do something basic like that.

ImageMagick is the application used by Symbiostock to take your original image and create thumbnail images, watermarked images, and  the various image sizes for the customer.  You don't need to install anything on your local computer.  Your web host should have this installed by default.

271
But switching 'WP_DEBUG', true still gives me lot's of errors.

They aren't errors.  They are notices.

Symbiostock - Development Area / Re: Licence list needed please
« on: August 04, 2013, 12:58 »
The difficulty with Rights Managed or Extended licenses is that they can be quite complex.  For example, a Rights Managed image can be licensed by location, time period, size of audience, size of company, quantity of merchardise using image, etc.

273
I made a test transaction with 2.5.6 a day or two ago, and all meta data was striped.

Is your Symbio site using the GD library or ImageMagick?

274
The uploader is back but after the upload, when I click on Process images I get this error message:

No matching image files found. You may have named them incorrectly. Fix problem and re-upload. This file has been removed. Example: "my_stock_art.eps" or "my_stock_art.zip" must have accompanying ""my_stock_art.jpg" to be considered a valid set/file.

This happens regardless of using the HTTP uploader or FTP uploads.

This might happen because there is an image file with a period/dot (.) in the filename (in addition to the one at the end for the extension).

275
I'm very interested in this as well.

IMO, retaining the IPTC data (especially the author/copyright) in the sold image is important in regards to protecting our copyrights.
