I posted this in the other thread because I didnt see this one:

I believe their exclusive content is in their room collection. It is mobile photography with a lot of instagram filters added. I was personally not a big fan of the stuff I saw and there seemed to be a lot of copyrighted materials in the shots (but I didnt see anywhere where it said it was editorial?). They are apparently going to soon let people like the photos to make them and the contributors popular and are going to introduce briefs. Sounds familiar

Hi there yay :)

This kind of creative thinking is what made istock a household name along with an amazing advertising campaign, creating a completely new segment of buyers!

And "inviting not forcing" contributors with opt outs is a really good thing.

I dont know. Maybe I read it wrong, but it seems like you would make an average of about 4 or 5 cents every time someone uses a product through the new service? Am I wrong? Did I completely misread that? I am just looking at what they will be charging per month and what they say the average amount a customer downloads per month.

Deleted. I think my first suggestion was better.

You said you need to buy in bulk. Stockfresh pays 50% to the artist and focuses on quality images so it might be a good compromise if buying the single images at Symbiostock is too expensive. Im just offering another option.

Well, notice that Facebook decided to integrate Shutterstock images, not Instagram (Instastock) ones (which it own). What does that tell you about the CV of Instagram photos? Instagram images go through no review and anyone can sell them, which means low quality and too much search time for most buyers. Also, Facebook is paying US (Shutterstock and the contributors) for images. As far as IStock goes, the actions you describe sound like a sinking company with no long term plan. It seems from these events Shutterstock is rising and the other stock agencies are struggling. It also seems advertising is moving more online as opposed to print, which is why Facebook partnered with Shutterstock.

As far as the terms of service debacle, I dont think they were planning on ever selling peoples images without their permission:  http://www.theverge.com/2012/12/18/3780158/instagrams-new-terms-of-service-what-they-really-mean and also what Instagram said http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/instagram-selling-photos-ads-article-1.1223584

I think this is a little outdated. For example, I know Depositphotos changed the license agreement awhile ago and needs to be updated as it appears they no longer limit the number of copies and possibly seats: http://depositphotos.com/license.html. I think Bigstock might have changed since as well.

Unless I missed it, I did not see any mention of models in either the terms of service or license agreement. Apparently, such images can be used in ANY way? They also state they hold no liability. It seems that might fall to the contributor.

They can change terms at any time. Even if you are ok with the terms now, they may change them at any time and you have no option to remove your images as they have them forever.

Looks like SS's stocks are bouncing back, so the Yuri effect, as he would like us to believe, was very temporary:

as confirmed by Yuri it seems SS has no plans to raise our fees or to launch a new expensive product line.
and frankly speaking i would do the same, their core business is being the leader in low cost so they better avoid risky adventures in news, reportage, midstock, etc

their strategy will be about cutting costs to the bone even more than now, as for their new collection i'm afraid they've something nasty in store, like all-you-can-eat mobile pics or whatever cheaper than chips.

in any case they can't stay idle, public companies usually announce something new every quarter to keep high the investors's attention span, no matter if it's all smoke and mirrors as in most of the cases, see the recent jump in FB's mobile profits, anyone following the industry knows very well the ugly truth and it will all crumble soon like a sack of potatoes.

at this point they could also find the money for some M&As .. including buying FT or DT, we'll see but it would be a logical step.

I dont think Yuri is in the position to confirm anything relating to SS, especially any of their future plans.

Seriously watch the parody. Everyone needs a little laugh.

Look at this Instagram, eggs benedict side of ham. Started out as a lemon tart then my phone went and made it art.

How many buyers are going to keep using this site when all they come across is this art?

I can't wait until all of these photos are for sale. Here is a great Instagram parody on YouTube:
