Elena,

I totally agree with you and most other posters.
I wasn't siding with the reviewers by any means, since I get enough of the same illogical rejections myself. Sometimes, you really wonder if a human could write such a nonsense.

My comment was merely to show that for SS, our rejections are just a drop in the sea of the ever increasing image tide. And maybe a misguided attempt to stem that tide.

102
Not at all justifying the rejections and reviewers,

but lets' look at the numbers:
At present, SS is accepting presently 400,000 images a week.
If they are rejecting about half, that would be another 400,000,
the current practice discourages photographers from resubmitting 200,000 images and dissuades them from submitting another 200,000  - adding all these numbers to the present 400,000 would bring it to a total 1,200,000 images a week or 62 million new images every  year. Where it will end?

"I've got a cupboard full of old 35mm slides that look like certain Stocksy images".

Forget about those old 35mm slides. I looked at some of mine, and although in those days they looked OK on a projection screen, they can't compare in quality to the new digital wonders. With exception of some primes, the old lenses were not that sharp, and the slides which sat 30-40 years in the cupboard lost also some of their luster.

The larger formats fared much better, and I suspect that's what you see today accepted by some agencies.

104
How is it going with FAA licensing? Has anybody sold any images ?

Sean,  what's a found image?

I believe he means an image you happened upon and took pictures of (versus a shoot you set up, styled, staged, etc.). Not a snapshot, but not an organized shoot either :)

And the person who takes such images, could be called "Image Finder".

106
Ron,

what software are you using for vectors?

The both posts of the "huge hairy spider" were the best until now. I laughed a lot with them:

- you find a huge hairy spider in your bathroom and your first thought is: "Hm, if I move it to the white part of the wall, I will get a better shot!"
- You know you are a Microstocker when the huge hairy spider in your bathroom earn more money that you...

Congratulations!

In this scenario, both get worked up and suffer equally - the spider and the shooter.
The difference between the photographer and spider is that the spider gets into the pictures without developing a rejection complex.
The other difference is that even if that picture sells only once, he didn't live in vain (the spider, of course).

This is a real puzzler.  I submitted a clear blue sky image.  No clouds, No tone variation, sunny, daytime.
It gets rejected for noise, white balance and cropping.   ???????

Try to put a little fluffy cloud in the left upper corner, and resubmit.

No idea why someone would give a minus to his post, but also I'm wondering why someone is giving a plus to two questions.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Who is our customer?

No wonder people have been drifting away from this forum. Someone comes on with a well meaning topic of discussion and they mostly get unhelpful snide comments. Kind of sad.

Very sad indeed, I couldn't agree more with you. Some people come here only to complain.

I recall that SS's financial report when they went public said that they had invested in proprietary inspection software. I just wonder if they are testing it. If they are it doesn't work worth a (S)hit.

That well could be. Since they changed the "Notes for Reviewer" field in the submission dialog from free text to a drop menu with three fixed options, this could be interpreted in such a way that this field is not read by humans.

For me, it is very important to know more about people I am working with. I choose that work to have a possibility to communicate with interesting people from all over the world. And I enjoy it (mostly). And the process of creation and motivation is very interesting for me. I ask customers as well about their vision of photographers and vector designers. And the hole picture is very surprising.

Yeah, some hole pictures can be surprising.
Of course, it depends on what kind of hole, and also whether it is a close-up or shot with a wide-angle lens.

Leo,

How do you envision the future landscape for the indies?
If a photographer has also some illustrations, should he set up one site on grfx.com and another with photos only on Symbiostock?

IF they don't want the work for LCV they should say so and save everyone a lot of work in guessing how to fix a faux problem and resubmitting

Also they could save some serious money by not paying the reviewers multiple times for looking at the same image.

From last Dec,sales of Shutterstock started to being sinking and sinking and never come back :(. more photo uploaded, more visitor on photo portfolio, more nice photo ( i suppose) but less download. It really not good.

The most important fact left out - more pictures on Shutterstock (fifty millions more)

Yestarday was again  little lower.
more reasons could be problem:
1. too much upload ( too many contributors on this boat ( also new))
2. subs on IS
3. new subscriptions plans
4. in march you buy images to finish projects  before summer, maybe
5. customers already have enough old images
6. Could be also the economy and some projects being shelved.

In addition, some image buyers must have used their budget on acquiring SS shares rather than the actual images (as evidenced by almost 20% rise of SS share prices in the last month).

Sometimes it may happen that a folder is moved accidentally into another folder. It's still there, but for all purposes, practically invisible.

Great shot, Beppo! Very clear moon, I think I can see some craters on it, but will SS accept it?

Image Sleuth / download-genius.com
« on: April 02, 2015, 21:38 »
I found one of my photo books (Georgian Bay Panoramas) advertised as a free PDF download on download-genius.com (and unfortunately also on other sites).

Sent them a DMCA Take Down letter, and then I searched for some more links to this site and found out that they take detailed info and some money from prospective downloaders, but never deliver anything.
I don't know if they have indeed scanned the entire book (only 64 pages) and have it on their server. If yes, then I have a problem. If not, then they inflict more damage to the gullible would-be downloaders than to the image or book creators.

Two other sites offering the same free download (there could be more):
zhitongbooks.com
facaibooks.top

Found through google:
.Top is currently ranked #9 domain type in terms of registrations, surely helped by a 99 cent price tag at some registrars. The company behind it, Jiangsu Bangning Science & Technology Co., Ltd., is also raising awareness by sending spam to people who own other domain names.

Indeed, the presented data looks weird.
In position 26, they show search term "image looking not search shutterstock try you".
However, grouping of the next 5 keywords (position 27 to 31) seems quite logical.

I have talked to the directly and they claim they need the extra money to ruin the business!

There must be an easier way to ruin the business.

Elena,

most Canadian banks charge monthly fee for maintaining a US account. Did you find a bank which gives you a free US account?
The real problem is that most agencies force you to use Paypal now (IS, FT, FAA, ...)

Thanks for finding Andrzej's contact page, I sent him an email.

1. Steve, I tried it it with your search. It worked but it took a long time.

2. Ajotte's search. Much quicker to return search results, but for some reason, my symbiostock site (advantica.com/stockphotos) is not showing up in ajotte's list and search. How do I request to be included in that list and search?
