That is how iStock works... 2/3 for iStock and barely 1/3 for authors.... Quite fair play if you ask me...

No. It's even worse than that. 4/5 for iStock and 1/5 for authors. Talking non-exclusive of course.

Off Topic / Re: How Long Is Your Commute To Work?
« on: May 22, 2009, 14:45 »
About 10 minutes by bus. 15 minutes by car cause parking is a bitch.

What a disaster.

I think RT was suggesting that StockXpert content on Photos.com and JUI could possibly be removed to make way for the IS content and to prevent duplicates. Not that StockXpert itself would be closed.

25 cents? Bah. Should be at least 30 and then scaled up for the exclusives. 25 is too low.

181
Haha. And most of them are so very true.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I've had enough.

Just looking around IS.. here is someone who seems to have gotten their stuff on there.

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&userID=509729

I am going to try out 2 Rastered Images just to see if they reject them on IS. 2 that were accepted at other sites and have some views going.

With SS, I have just failed my first application so I am wondering if I could / should throw some rasters in it next time?

^ Even he mentioned being upset over rejections in one of his blog posts, and his illustrations are among the best and most stock worthy I've seen.

Anyway... I called it:

I guess the silver lining here would be that it only took them 3 days to reject it instead of the usual 7+ days. Now if only the scout didn't take so long... my oldest is going on 25 days now.

How about making your illustrations in a vector program instead of a raster one? After all an artist is an artist whatever medium they use. If Illustrator is too pricey maybe Inkscape would do. I think artists need to be fairly flexible.

Because most are made in a 3D program.

Anyway, I just submitted this one.. clearly not stock worthy as I'm sure Istock will say.

Cutcaster / Re: Cutcaster Submit Interface
« on: May 15, 2009, 23:02 »
I just uploaded ~200 images to Cutcaster the other day and yea it was a bit of a pain having to constantly scroll. All my files have IPTC data but for some reason it doesn't record the titles.. so I had to go manually add all of those. I have to do that at Dreamstime too. All the other sites read the IPTC title/headline/whatever.

I never read or post anything on iStock forums but the not stock worthy rejections for any and all raster illustrations is getting to me and I had to let off some steam. Think it will get deleted?  :-\

The "Not Stock Worthy" rejections for nearly all non-vector illustrations is getting obsurd. I have only managed to get 14 raster illustrations accepted and at least half of those were rejected at least once and were only accepted after a scout reinspection. The 14 raster illustrations that were almost all initially rejected (not stock worthy) average more than twice the number of downloads of the photos of mine that were accepted.

Let me provide an example of one of my raster illustrations that was initially rejected. I can admit that it does seem to have limited usage. But it has brought in over $600 worth of sales in which $480 of it went straight to iStocks pocket. Not to mention it has had 10 downloads this month alone...

By all means keep the strict technical standards. All I am really asking is that you losen up a bit and let the buyers have more of a say in what is and isn't stock worthy. As it stands now, I can't submit 70% of my images. And that unfortunately makes exclusivity a non-option for me. =\

EDIT: This one was just rejected for of course not being stock worthy. I submit it for a scout review.. now I wait a month to get a response.

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Royalties
« on: May 13, 2009, 09:40 »
Thanks Aaron. Looking forward to the launch date. Had you guys done this months ago instead of starting Snapvillage you would almost certainly be in the big 6 by now. Still better late than never I suppose.  ;)

Oh, just got the e-mail, I was wrong, aparently they do like my penguins  :) Got the same e-mail as you Kngkyle

I would have been shocked if you weren't selected. Your images are great. Mine on the other hand... big surprise.  ;)

Wow... very surprised. Just got an e-mail saying:

Congratulations, you've been selected to sell your work on Veer Marketplace!

Most of the stuff I have on Snapvillage are illustrations that I sent over a year ago. Maybe they are less strict on illustrations or something. I haven't actually uploaded anything new there since then.

I haven't gotten one yet, but I am expecting it. I bet there will be a lot of others here who get that message as well.

Photoshop used to take forever to load on my old computer, but on my new one it only takes about 3 seconds. That's plenty fast for me.  ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Minor Age Contributor?
« on: May 10, 2009, 11:17 »
You "need" to be 18. But on sites with no ID verification you can get away with it earlier. (I started when I was 17)  ;D

I agree with your first 4.  I would include Bigstock in the top 6 instead of 123.  My sales there have been stagnant for two years, despite doubling my portfolio.  I still barely make payout there each month, even with 4500+ images.

what's the payout  at BigStock?

I think $30.  Not sure though.  I wait until I have $100 to ask.

You're right. It is $30.

For me it goes sorta like this, at least the past few months:

DT
IS
---- separation
SS
FT
StockXpert
---- separation
BigStock
123
CS
CanStockPhoto

i encounter this problem before..but the case that i heard, it was a fraud case..where someone uses a stolen credit card and make that purchase..hopefully its not the same..

Well it's been happening for over a month now, surely they would have caught it and stopped it by now?

« on: May 05, 2009, 23:09 »
I only uploaded 5 photos like a year ago and haven't checked to see if I had any sales in months. Sure enough, I got one in April. $17.50. For only having 5 images online I am pretty happy with that... so I'm going to upload some more when I get the chance.

Due to the unworkable volume of uploads from members who are not reading instructions and/or submitting large batches of unedited content, we are unfortunately forced to pause uploads. Uploading is currently disabled for all members (including FTP and the web forms) until we put online a new system with stricter, defined rules and penalties for those who do not 'play fair'.

All files already in the system should be described and submitted to our reviewers as normal.

For the vast majority of members who have been uploading quality content in a practical way- sorry for this inconvenience, however we cannot let a minority of members use up business resources in an unlimited way. Thank you for your patience as we revise the system and the policies.

I was going to upload some more files. Guess not today.  :-X Hope this gets fixed soon. If their ever is a partnership between us and Zymmetrical I'm sure there will be a huge increase in submissions.
