Pond5 / Signing Out of Pond5
« on: December 03, 2021, 14:51 »
I have no problem signing into Pond5 but I discovered I now can not sign out. The site has no "logout" message. I still use Windows 7 on an old PC. Your help and/or insights would be appreciated.

General Stock Discussion / A Photographer's Legacy
« on: April 16, 2018, 12:48 »
I wanted to share with you a short documentary on PBS about a photographer who uses traditional methods of capturing images. It truly is an amazing story. Enjoy.

Anyone else get a load of "file transfer error" rejections with Shutterstock yesterday?

Dreamstime.com / Why Does Dreamstime Even Bother?
« on: May 19, 2016, 13:45 »
Just received $0.35 from the kind people at Dreamstime for an XL image ranked "level two". XL + Level 2 purchase = $0.35? :o Makes me wonder why they even bother displaying level rankings.

General Stock Discussion / Canon T6i Problems
« on: July 15, 2015, 22:04 »
FYI....this was posted on the B&H site regarding Canon's T6i camera:

Product Advisory: In some units of the EOS Rebel T6i white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the capture image under certain shooting conditions. Potentially affected units include cameras with serials numbers of "XXnnnnnnnnnn" in which XX is 01 or 02. These cameras will be inspected and repaired free of charge by Canon USA.

General Photography Discussion / Ode to the Snapshot
« on: June 09, 2015, 22:17 »
My definition of a "snapshot" is: Handheld. 30 seconds or less to compose. Less than perfect lighting. Spontaneous....you see something unique or "sellable" and you capture it.
My question: Can you find success shooting "snapshots"? And to you who spend gobs of money renting a studio. Hiring models. Using state of the art equipment capturing that perfect composition of the smiling, middle-aged female CEO leaning across the desk and shaking hands with the enamoured client......do you, on occasion submit "snapshots" and find success?

Photography Equipment / Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

The only shortcoming I can see is a flip-out viewfinder. What's your thoughts?

Economists are predicting a new recession, comparable to 2008 within the next 2 years. China, Russia, Europe and the United States are all showing economies slowing down....Of course, Economists are a bit like weather forecasters, anticipated stormy weather doesn't always materialize when predicted. :)

I'd be curious to hear from long time contributors who had to deal with the 2008 recession. ie. Was there a significant effect on your sales?

Photography Equipment / Battery Life
« on: October 11, 2014, 20:54 »
I've owned a Canon T3i for more than three years now. I shoot everyday, often filling more than two 8gig cards with images and clips and I'm still using the same battery that came with the camera. I'm wondering if that's unusual or status quo....I've always been in the habit of re-charging the battery as soon as I get home from a shoot and I wonder if that contributes to its long life.

General Photography Discussion / The Reviewer Crap Shoot
« on: May 29, 2014, 12:13 »
I know we all have our "reviewer" stories. I thought I'd share my most recent one with you....

I've tried and failed a number of times to get on with IS. My last attempt included three images that have been with SS for approximately 18 months. Collectively they've sold 517 times and earned me $417.40 with SS alone. I've sold the same three images many times with other agencies but SS is by far my most successful agency.....

Those three images were rejected by IS because: "We feel your images are not up to IStock standards...."

Really? They're obviously up to everybody else's standards including, most importantly, the buyers' standards.

It's another example of the reviewer crap shoot. Did they base their opinion on the current submission or on past failed attempts? And most importantly, is this an agency that I want to be judged by?

DepositPhotos / Working Directly with Third Party Agencies
« on: March 19, 2014, 14:40 »
DP has worked in collusion with third party agencies without the consent of the contributors.  Stockshop is one example. I've contacted DP and told them to remove my images.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried contacting Stockshop and told them if they were willing to work directly with you (circumventing DP), they would have permission to keep your images with their agency.

If Stockshop agreed, would that not be a quick and easy way of adding an agency to your portfolio? Albeit a very low earner but at least earning the industry standard with each image sold

General Stock Discussion / I Don't Stand a Chance with Pond5
« on: February 06, 2014, 21:43 »
I recently submitted a 30 second clip of an abandoned, empty and derelict shack.
It was accepted and after a few days I thought I'd check with Pond5 to see where
it was placed. Initially I used the simple search word "shack" and "best match" and couldn't find it.

Undaunted, I tried "man" and "shack" since I locked off the shot and walked into
the shack - using me as the model is relatively inexpensive  ;D and adds a bit more interest to the setup. Still no luck!

When I look at Pond5's offerings using the search terms "man" and "shack" and see this at the top of the first page, I've got to wonder what my chances are of selling anything with Pond5.
