Constantly asking for free content.........then charging us to read it afterwards.
Isn't there a link somewhere about being a microstock chump?

Out of the million image submissions a week to SS I wonder how many are resubmissions and how many of those get approved on second or third submission? Reality is probably more like 600,000 original submissions per week, of which 300,000 are first time acceptances. All the other numbers involved are resubmissions.
SS want to cut cost? Remove the poor reviewing and reduce having to pay for the same image again more than once.

Depends how well done they are. They can look natural if done well, or totally overcooked and grungy if not. I have landscapes in HDR that sell well but without a non-HDR comparison it is difficult to say whether the HDR would still sell against a "normal" photo.

Hi All,
I am here, My name is Ahmed Soliman. first of all i want to say sorry to you all and all authors that i have copied there work but i want you to know that i didn't read terms and conditions carefully. I am not a thief
anyway all my accounts are now terminated and i lost all of my money. one small thing... you have destroyed my work that i am using since 2008 ... and this is how i eat me and my family.
Thank you Soliman
You are damned lucky to have got away with this for so long. Be grateful for how long your thievery has fed your family rather than moan that it won't any more.

I wonder if it has anything to do with accounts sat below $35 which have never been added to and have been sat stagnant for years? SS will have to keep that total amount in cash held in their bank in case the contributors ever request payout, or what happens if payout is never requested? Does that mean SS hold onto huge amounts on money and can't use it? Imagine having millions sat in your bank which you can't touch? By changing the TOS every registered contributor will get the email, and maybe in six months time SS add another change that if amounts are not requested after a certain period of time the money is forfeited. Within the space of a year, and with minimal impact to their operating business, they release millions to themselves.

30 keywords to describe subject in photo is plenty. Others are probably even not relevant.
Depends on the pic. Sometimes it's hard to get ten, sometimes 50 is 'tight'.
Yes. And if you only have pictures of individual wild animals, it's easy to get 10. But we all don't create the same kind of images.
DumC: Look at this picture by Creatista and tell me if you can properly sell it with only 30 KWs (include conceptual and objective):
biker, nerd, laptop, geek, dork, plaid, white, hat, bar, european, tavern, adult, cap, male, bandanna, sweater, gang, digital, people, intelligent, caucasian, female, expert, technology, smiling, computer, showing off, expectation, grinning, cool, middle aged, beer, troubleshooting, shoulder, woman, group, motorcycle gang, smart, ironic, mature, fedora, clever, proud, eyeglasses, man, confident, watching, happy
By the way, the SS suggests we do keywording at their latest webinar (http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/learn-effective-keywording-in-our-shuttertalk-live-presentation), it is impossible to under 30 KWs for most pictures.
Using your example, how many buyers searching using the keyword "beer" would choose this picture? Or would they choose an image where beer is the actual subject? Same goes for middle aged, expert, technology, plaid, white, hat, European, cap, male, bandana, sweater, gang, digital, intelligent,, Caucasian, female, smiling, troubleshooting, motorcycle gang, etc......you get the idea. What they might search with and use this picture is "group of people around laptop" or "diverse group of people on laptop". I don't think any buyer would use a one word search and use this image.

I'm currently using Capture NX2 with a Nikon D7000. I really like the capabilities of NX2 but its getting old and its always been quite slow. I wonder if i'm missing out on anything from Lightroom Nik combination. I try and keep things simple and don't do complex post processing to me the only real weakness of the software is the weak cloning/object eraser feature. Any thoughts on whether an upgrade would be interesting to hear from anyone who has trodden this path.
Thanks
I can highly recommend Adobe CC monthly photography sub plan. $9.99 month for latest updates, versions, etc. I used to updated every other version by hard install so cost works out about the same for me over the two years. With photography package you get full PS and Lightroom, including LR mobile app.

What are your thoughts Ron? I seem to recall you being a big advocate when you first registered with them - will you be joining?

Exclusive as in one of the few who keeps 100% commission from sales. $499 pa to play, or $60 pcm. Big punt. Had it been $25 pcm then maybe but $499 is not a small number to place on a bet

It is up to you to take it the way you want. You seem to believe that not being accepted by stocksy is a verdict on the quality of your work.
Stocksy only takes a small number of people because it is a very tiny agency. If they were as big as Shutterstock, they could take many more people...but I guess reading my post is probably too long...
I know many people who have applied to stocksy and were rejected and this is exactly what they told me how they felt.
Obviously, if you havent applied, why would you care? But there are loads of people who love stocksy and really want to join.
I have no issue with how Stocksy select their contributors, or what aesthetic or niche they are going for. My comments were in response to the comments you posted and the words/phrase you chose to use - it was condescending, and that shows through a lot with people who have been accepted into Stocksy. It also comes across from Stocksy contributors that it is they who seem to think that by being accepted it is an indication of the quality of their work, raising them above the people who haven't "got in". The whole phraseology of "being accepted" or "got in" indicates some sort of special club to aspire to joining rather than an indication of the size of the agency.

.....I know it is frustrating for those who havent been able to join yet, like watching a great party by looking in through the window. But give stocksy time, dont give up.
But also dont ignore all the other opportunities to make money with stock. There is a lot happening this year.
Aaah, the usual elitist, condescending chatter to the proles from Stocksy contributors. It is just this sort of attitude that makes people hostile towards Stocksy. Nothing like making the "little guys" looking in through the windows feel better. I have no doubt this is not what you intended from your post but that is the way it comes over with the phraseology you have used.

Try it without the non-US tax payer number, I don't enter a number as it is optional, and mine goes through no problem on all sites. I would guess the IRS system is trying to match your non-US number with their database, finding nothing and then throwing it out as rejected.

I expect another positive spin. Only 20% of my FT sales come from US. Now, with the increased exposure through Adobe Cloud, the US sales will probably get a visible boost! And since FT has already a slightly better average $/DL than SS, with this increase, it's good news for the contributors, even if FT eats up some of the SS US market share.
What do you think SS will do if they lose market share to FT?
I don't think SS will lower prices, price isn't the attraction with CC/FT, it's the convenience of staying in program and using the image before you buy it. Difficult to see how SS or anyone else can compete with that. BIG USP for them and probably one of the most attractive in the marketplace. Buyers will pay a bit more for that to save their time.
You think of all the service businesses out there who only thrive because they provide services that people either haven't got the skills to do themselves, can't be bothered to do or do not have the time to do; cleaners, chaffeurs, gardeners, printers, photographers, etc, etc. People will pay for convenience and in a business like the creative market where the more time you have the more money you earn it, will be accepted wholesale.
So you think they'll just sit back and allow FT to take market share without doing anything?
Not at all, I think they will need to do something eventually, I just don't think it will be prices. Putting prices down will put pressure on their margins against a back drop of what we assume will be dropping market share, also assuming they would not reduce royalties any lower than they currently pay, that would mean a direct hit on their bottom line - reducing income and static costs - which would then have an immediate impact on share price and dividends. Something they cannot permit to happen. They would be better off putting prices up to maintain margin and static royalties and try to come up with an innovative technological solution.

It's hard to say much about the graph, you could be doing much better than most people even after your decline depending where you started. For SS according to their filings they had an average monthly RPI of about 17 cents, down from about 19 last year. A poll from last year found that 42% of people here had a monthly RPI of less than or equal to 25 cents. Considering that SS is usually 50-65% of most people's total earnings that would bring the average RPI for all sites to less than 40 cents per month or $4-5 year.
Where did SS come into the equation??
OP states ".....is it just iStock?" and also; ........
I'm stock exclusive at the moment and interested in the experiences of other exclusives and independents. My RPI has dropped by around 65% over the last 4 years and I'm curious if this dramatic fall is industry wide or limited to istock.
Bringing SS into discussion does not seem unreasonable and would actually provide the best comparison as the largest market share.

Considering that all everyone will get 33% maybe the accounts stepping up to Silver have something to do with that and it is easier just to bump a ranking than changing anything else?

I have to be honest, I feel kind of crap that I am not able to sell my photos through Adobe. Missing out on good money, all because I wanted to protect my intellectual property.
Ron, don't feel bad for having the integrity to stand up for yourself. Right or wrong, the decision/s you made or influenced were for the right reasons, a few dollars shouldn't change that. Anyway, don't assume this is all rosy, it sounds good but so many things do when they first come to light in this business, they can very quickly look a lot less appealing.

Oh dear ...
https://creativemarket.com/bundle/photography-bundle
I think it's an attempt to get the name in front of people who might not normally see it. The fact that the images are priced at thousands show that they aren't trying to sell them cheap. I think.
I was referring to this Sean, where Stocksy images are bundled with hundreds of other items - are you referring to Stocksy images being priced at thousands on Stocksy? Surely a marketing campaign and strategy would be a more effective way of getting the name in front of people? Especially the right people - not ones looking for cheap bundles? I appreciate you are in the dark on this Sean but you are the only Stocksy member on here who may be able to give us some insight.
