I didn't open Whatwolf's portfolio too, the page doesn't load.

It's working already! Now I can open your portfolio. Good luck, Whatwolf!

I think that maybe are "skimming the fat off". Maybe we passed a first selection and now they are deciding if let us join or not. It's all a big Maybe :/

Probably you are right. May be they put us into a group "We aren't sure what to think about them"...

How long did you wait for a response? i made my apply on june 17 and i'm still waiting. I know they say it could take 2 months, but i read that some people heard them back in 20 days

I sent my application June 16 and I'm still waiting too. I'm afraid I will be very disappointed if I will receive rejection after two long months.

30
Thank you, Gillian. I'm waiting over 20 days but I'm thankful for this time because I improved my portfolio. I think it looks better now although I haven't an idea if Stocksy editors will like it too :-\  It is very difficult to choose the right images.

31
i THINK that they will judge on this 25 image submission, and then they chek your portfolio...but i think you should just avoid logos in the 25 image sample and not in portfolio....but this is just my idea

I don't know their way of processing applications but I found articles with recommendations for photographers after I sent them my images. Now I know that I didn't choose the most appropriate 25 images so I hope they will take a look at my portfolio also and I would like to have it the best possible.

32
I'm not sure how they are choosing people, so I don't know the right answer, but personally I would avoid logos.  You know you can't use logos, but they don't know that you know that if you submit those images.

Probably you are right, I deleted most problematic images and replaced them with another. Thank you for your advice.

33
Thank you Jen for your comment. Do you think it isn't good to have images with logos in sample portfolio? I know that I can't sell them in stock agency and I wavered if it is good idea to have them in my portfolio or not but I noticed that Stocksy has images with logos in their selection on Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/366550857144766816/). I wonder if it is better to show them images  I like more although they aren't usable for stock or if I should use only photos without trademarks or art. Perhaps I  could try to retouch some of them.

When I received their rejection last time (in January), there was a message. They wrote that my portfolio wasn't right for their collection.

Stocksy / Microstock photographers and Stocksy application
« on: July 03, 2014, 04:53 »
I would like to ask microstock photographers what are their experiences with Stocksy.

Microstock was my full time job for few years and I was very thankful for it, although I had to adjust my photography style to their requirements. I like more Stocksy photography style and I would like to be their photographer but I found out that it is very difficult to change all microstock habits now. Preparing my portfolio for Stocksy application I noticed these difficulties:

1. I'm focusing more on technical quality than aesthetic impression and creativity.
2. I'm accustomed to details and I don't think about surroundings when I'm shooting.
3. I'm directed to microstock subjects and I feel strange when I want to put to my portfolio something different or more personal.

This is my portfolio from last application and it was declined:

I tried to understand my mistakes and I prepared new portfolio for next application: https://mkucova.squarespace.com
I think it looks better now although I'm not sure if it is exactly what Stocksy editors want to see. I would like to ask if the other microstock photographers have to deal with similar troubles. How do you prepare your portfolio for resubmission? Are you sending the same images again or different? I will be thankful for opinion from Stocksy photographers too - I would like to know what I can improve more.

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy Portfolio Review
« on: July 02, 2014, 13:18 »
Stocksy trends links are very helpful. Thank you. I like also these articles:

http://www.jengrantham.com/2014/06/13/how-to-get-accepted-at-stocksy/
http://www.michaeljayfoto.com/agency-news/stocksy-launches-new-call-to-artist-should-you-apply-as-contributor/

I read them after applying and I found out that probably I didn't choose the best images for my application again (it was resubmition, they rejected my portfolio last year). Unfortunately I couldn't revise 25 images I already sent them but I rearranged my portfolio on website. I'm coming from microstock and it's big problem for me. Michael writes about it in his article and that's  true. After few years at microstock it is't easy to choose and show images I love most because I think they aren't suitable for stock  :-\

They love our photos without seeing them?

I think these pages were initially for those who received Stocksy invitation, so they saw their portfolios already. It was last year. They changed the application process and photographers have to create their account, send portfolio and sample images at one time so this sentence from Supply Agreement could be confusing now.

It was the same with me! :D I opened Supply Agreement and the first sentence is: "We love your photos and we want to license them for you." My first thought was "They accepted me!!!" But then I came to realize that I just sent my application so it isn't possible. Now I'm waiting for their response. Kathi, did you experienced something similar? :-)

« on: December 09, 2013, 12:00 »
Hi Pete,
I'm surprised that you received your invitation only few hours after submitting your portfolio. I thought that it usually takes few weeks until they review portfolio. I received my invitation few months ago. I had to wait for a long time (more than one month) but than I completed my application and sent 10 high-res images very quickly. I'm sorry now because I didn't choose suitable images and my application was declined fast, they answered me next day. I sent new portfolio link one week ago and I'm waiting for their answer again.

I hope you will receive response from Stocksy as soon as possible. This waiting is very tiring. Good luck!

I'm very surprised, I think that Julie has very good images. May be they want to see more photos in portfolio? I don't understand this rejection.  I'm very confused now because I just finished my portfolio for next submission in December and now I'm not sure if I know what they want to see  :-\  I asked for opinion here two months ago but after that I added more photos to my Flickr portfolio so I will be very thankful for your critique again. I prepared also my website on portfoliobox where I focused on my favorite subjects  - nature macro and children.
If you want to take a look I will be very thankful. I hoped that I have better portfolio than last time but when I see that they didn't accept Julie, I'm in doubt about it now :-(

Hi Magdalena, we have very different style but in a way I think Stocksy is almost a more natural fit for you, your images are candid, soft and in my opinion, close to a lot of things Stocksy select. My one suggestion would be to edit your flickr page and keep a maximum of 50 images. For exemple, I like your first horse images that are muted and backlit but I'm not crazy about the one with the blue sky.  I also really like most of you kids picture; they look spontaneous and dreamy.

I liked some of your images in your Flickr page, I hope it helps and don't be too hard on yourself, I get the feeling your Style would match Stocksy quite well ( but again, Stocksy works in mysterious ways  ;) )

good luck!

Yes, "Stocksy works in mysterious way" -  that's very apt! :D

Thanks for taking a look at my portfolio and your comment. Probably I will review my images in my Flickr page once more.

Ah well, there's always Offset...

Not in any way aimed at the OP, but I am curious.  Are folks falling over themselves to be part of Stocksy because:

a) It's a great commercial opportunity or

b) The aura of wonderfullness that suggests that, if accepted, they are also wonderful

I was exclusive iStock photographer for few years and I was very satisfied. The other microstock sites can't earn what I need (iStock was full-time job for me) and the common microstock style doesn't suits me (for example - I love images with shallow depth of field but microstock sites usually reject them as not suitable for stock or out of focus - I had few such rejections just yesterday...) I wonder if I can find another site similar to "old iStock" and it seems that Stocksy is the best choice for me, so I would like to try it. This is my reason, the other photographers could have different.

Sandralise - it seems that your first feedback was for Pete Sherrard, not for me  ;D  He has book covers in his portfolio.

Cobalt: yes, it would be great to meet finally  :)

Thank you for your feedback and kind words. Unfortunately they didn't see this portfolio, I sent them mostly my stock images and now I think it was a mistake. These images have probably better chance and I'm preparing them for next time.

Exactly, you described my own impression and it is why I would love to be part of this site too. I hope I will be able to put together the right portfolio.

You are right, I miss the old exclusive days on iStock very much too and I know a lot of things changed there now but I read that Stocksy requires exclusivity only for images, not for photographers, so I suppose I can sell different images on other microstock sites. Stocksy reminds me what I loved on iStock and I prefer their images more than usual microstock style. I noticed they prefer mood and aesthetic over technical perfection and it attracts me.

I would like to ask for feedback from Stocksy contributors too. I'm selling my images on microstock sites but few months ago Stocksy caught my attention, I love their style and images and I would like to become a contributor. I sent them my portfolio already but they aren't interested in my stock images currently so I would like to show them different images next time. I prepared new portfolio, these images are more what I like personally, they aren't from microstock site. I would love to ask photographers which sent their portfolio to Stocksy in last weeks and were accepted if my images are suitable for them or not. If not, what shall I change? I will be very thankful for your recommendation and feedback.

Stocksy / Re: What is Stocksy? - From an Outsider's Viewpoint...
« on: September 26, 2013, 02:23 »
Personally I believe that almost any image good enough to be accepted on Stocksy, on an exclusive basis, would almost certainly earn far more as a non-exclusive image on multiple microstock sites.

I started selling my images on few microstock sites and then I decided for iStock exclusivity. I was exclusive photographer four years and I was very happy there, but then iStock changed very much and also my sales and earnings decreased so finally I canceled my exclusivity few month ago. I started upload my images back to another microstock sites and now I have my portfolio on 9 sites including "Big 4". I think I have good comparison and I have to say that my images earned much more when they were exclusive only on iStock and I'm very sorry that this site changed so much. I don't think that exclusivity is profitable for all images, I believe that many photographers will earn more as non-exclusive, but some images will be more successful as exclusive on one site.
