Adobe Stock / FT getting stranger
« on: July 06, 2007, 07:50 »
Hi, this morning I received two emails from FT, both identicle and both rejecting an image I hadn't even uploaded.  Nor, based on the image name would it had been one of mine sent in error on my part.  I responded and received an answer back in French.  Both original emails had been in English.

I know that those with low sales shouldn't throw stones BUT this from their front page has me wondering
"After your images have been uploaded and approved, we'll buy them. Your account will be credited with $25 right away! "
Does we'll buy them mean that they are paying you ten cents an image to use the image however they see fit?  Afterall, according to their website thy just "bought" 250 of your images for $25.00

Off Topic / Re: income tax deductions
« on: March 25, 2007, 03:08 »
I do a variation of what rmiz does.  I deduct 75% of the cost of my camera equipment unless it is something used 100% for business such as my light tent) because it is used part time for personal photos, 25% of my computer, internet and cell phone (rest of time is being used by other folks or for school/fun), 100% of my website and exposure manager.  I'm sure rjmiz is being honest on his taxes but...
I have been audited twice, before starting with stock work, and have won both times.  based on that, plus doing the taxes for my husbands business for twenty years, I'd rather be conservative in claiming in usage amounts.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Full Time or Part Time?
« on: March 03, 2007, 06:56 »
For me it has to be very part time as it is competing with my full time day job (which pays well and comes with retirment program, health insurance and disability benefits), other photo opportunites and my return to school.  After May school will be over so I can devote even more time to microstock.  My plans are to slowly grow bigger and bigger with the microstocks.

I attended a conference one time as the "official" photographer.  During breaks I wandered around and took some shots that were fairly generic.  The staff never questioned me except when I was doing a close-up of a fire alarm pull box.  The shots I got of the food table laid out with warming dishes, etc before the luncheon started have sold.  As a hotel guest I've often taken pictures of the lobby, etc if they are interesting, to show my family when I get home.  I've never been questioned while doing so.

StockXpert.com / Re: New rejection reasons
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:33 »
I've just had two (small) batches in a row rejected with everyone being "we are not interested in this type of image".  Only two of the images were similiar.  I've never had this type of rejection from them except an occassional one out of a batch where the others were accepted.  I had decided to keep uploading until the new year to all sites I'm active on and then decide based on sales where to stay..these StockXpert rejections may make my choice a little easier now.

I was testing out my new camera today, so I took your advice and submitted one more image to try and jog the system.

Hi all, I was trying some new stuff out last week and on Friday (9/8/06) I uploaded the same five images to IS, DT, BigStock, FT, FP, 123Rf, StockXpert and LO.  As of Sunday night I have had all five reviewed (in order of speed) by FP, StockXpert, FT, BigStock, LO.  I knew that IS and DT would be late but I was very surprised at the speed of BigStock and at the lack of speed at 123RF.  Just a mini-test, YMMV. BTW..I also learned from my experiment in that of the 5 images reviewed so far I had only one reject, and that was the same image at both StockXpert and FT.  StockXpert said it was too dark while FT said,

"The photographs in the Fotolia database are intended for sale as illustration of brochures, magazines, websites, and presentations. Your photographic work is excellent but does not meet the needs of the Fotolia customer base."

Nicest rejection I ever received.  ;D hey it was an experiment and I learned from it.  No complaints here.

« on: September 08, 2006, 06:30 »
Can someone please explain Featurepics referral system.  I just noticied that I received 3 cents for a "referral" on a $2.00 sale.  The date is the same as when one of my images sold for $2.00.  I do not have any links, badges, etc for someone to have clicked on.  Is there a section for the buyer to say who referred them to the site??

Alamy.com / Re: Workflow for Alamy
« on: September 06, 2006, 15:38 »
I have only submitted my QC CD of ten images so far but it was accepted on my first try. For those who worry about their equipment and software I did it with a Pentax *ist DS (6.1 mp) and elements 3.0. in my very limited experience this is what i did. Shot in RAW, did PP for white balance and exposure in RAW. Be careful as elements, at least mine, had a default sharpeniing in RAW at 25%..I reset it to zero. I then converted to TIFF, PP with levels and enlarged to actual pixels..there I cloned out dust, etc. If needed I would then use neat image. Then I resized the images and burnt the CD.   Except for the resizing this is my standard workflow for all pics.  I will sharpen as needed ( but not in RAW) except for Alamay which states zero sharpening
So those with higher mp cameras and better software should have an even easier time. Because my camera is only 6.1 I used only images that required no cropping so I had as big a file as possible to start with.

I've emailed you some questions, the one's I posted here I figured others might also be interested in learning.

Hi..there a lot of things I found "right" about what you are trying to do, particulary for images I have that I think would work well there (and are too small for the "other" sites.  But I do not understand your pricing features on uploading.  If the payout for each image sold is the same, why is there a place for putting in the image price?  Also i could not find a contributor's agreement, something that needs to be avlaible before uploading is done.

StockXpert.com / It finally happened
« on: August 24, 2006, 13:43 »
;D I joined StockXpert in mid May. After having no sales ther despite everyone else loving the site i was discouraged. After having nine out of eleven images rejected this week for "we are not looking for such images at this time" reasons I was really getting dejected. (five people, two landscapes, one boat and a pony were all rejected for that..they accepted one image of a child and one of a drawbridge). Well today it happened. My first StockXpert sale. And it was of one of the first images I had uploaded in May. Another 32 more and I reach payout. ;D

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS - just 10 cents???
« on: August 24, 2006, 06:47 »
How can older credits be floating around when by policy unused credits are lost after a year?  i know, i just lost seven for not spending them.   IS sent me wranings once a week for sixty days that unused credits are lost if not spent within one year of purchase.

121
On a slightly different note..is there a way to check on our submitted photos?  I submitted five last week with nary a word and I want to be sure they are in line somewhere to be reviewed.

StockXpert.com / Re: How is StockXpert doing for you?
« on: August 10, 2006, 05:51 »
I'm still finding StockXpert very frustrating.  At the moment I have 46 images up there, which I know is small but I have been there since May with no sales.  Yet i have multiple downloads at IS with only 29 images and DT with 25 images and even SPM.  heck I once made three sales with two images when I first started on IS.  I'm not sure how much longer to keep trying with StockXpert

Will post the link as soon as it's ready.  I submitted the best of what I think Ihave on the micros for the QC (best in my opinion..I don't think any of them has sold and will be removed from the RF sites but will stay as  RF, now off to shoot what will be strictly RM

;D  ;D  ;D Secretly, and behind the scenes I lurked, I read, I posted a little.  But, I dared not tell anyone that I had greater aspirations.  I PASSED MY ALAMY QC TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D

What about those selling prices? They are not the ones you see in the page that explains prices and commissions. I checked a couple of images yesterday and prices were EUR 2, 4 and 6. :-\

Regards,
Adelaide

This is from the site when I checked it tonight
"Depending on file type and resolution the cost is between
1,5 and 6 Euros per download."
