General Stock Discussion / Re: Could you do this?

We didn't have a contract with the photographer, actually none of the photographers we spoke to ever mentioned or when asked required a contract.

General Stock Discussion / Could you do this?
« on: March 30, 2007, 00:46 »
I now own all the negitives (and digital files) for the photos of my wedding, there are some great shots which would make excellent stock, I'm just wondering if I can legally upload them as I didn't take them. Anyone have any ideas about this.

Using paypal and having a foreign bank account is a good way of getting around paying tax in the country you live in.

What's all this crap about carnies and olivers, i don't get it, nor do I see why I would ever want tokens. It's gimicks like this that put me off new sites, plus I was burned by Totally Photos who folded and took 50 odd dollars of my cash and ran, that's why I will not piss around with startups they ain't going anywhere the market is already pretty saturated with good sites, i don't see why buyers need to try itty bitty sites when they lack content.

« on: March 23, 2007, 09:11 »
as they have just lowered the payout limit to $50 for paypal users.

That's good news!  With about $5 sales per month lately, I can dream of a pay-out every year.  :)

Regards,
Adelaide

Same with me, will get my first payout next month after I dropped my payout level to $50

Yup nearly triple the payout from IS this month compared to SS, frankly SS sucks big time for me, having to continuously upload doesn't work well when you aren't a full time photographer.

Anybody knows if I could keep my editorial images on SS without interferring with exclusivity on IS?

You cannot have any royalty free images of any kind anywhere. period.

I was pretty sure you could keep editorial images on other sites.

This is the country that invented Democracy!

For some reason I thought that Greece invented Democracy...

The oldest true democracy with universal sufferage is New zealand

Interesting statistics epixx.  Do you have the same portfolio at IS and SS?

Your numbers certainly make SS look appealing.

But as opposed to common "knowledge", my old photos at SS sell rather well, at least as long as I keep uploading new ones.

That's the whole problem with SS you have to keep uploading all the time, if you don't shoot a lot SS is probably the worst site out of all the stock sites I upload to. I'm not a pro I don't have tens of thousands of images, SS just doesn't work for a punter like me.

« on: March 05, 2007, 12:04 »
what's really stupid about their news related images is you still need releases if people are in the shots, who ever heard of that, SS or Alamy don't require releases,

I think it looks a little cheesy, the orange is quite outdated if you ask me.

Are you using software to increase the size of the files or do you have a camera that's able to create a large enough image?

113
well in my case the only members of my family I have online are of my toddler and then I would be upset but this old boy looks like the old boys you see in rural france and italy sitting in village squares leering at all the pretty girls, he'd probably be stoked!

check out

This Thread

for that old man image used in an indecent manner incident.

Quite frankly I don't see what the photographer had to complain about, you can't see any tit, I certainly don't find it offensive in any way. I don't see the person in the image being degraded. However had it been a child then I could see it being a problem.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Is that all that Canon has got?
« on: February 27, 2007, 15:24 »
Just image a weather sealed, fast focusing (eos based) canon MF with the functionality of a 35mm camera it would slaughter all the existing MF systems, this is canons big year I don't believe this current release is all they'll have for us.

never heard of it.

I think there is another thread here saying Ft and IS are bigger.

it's this kind of crap that is making me very seriously think about dropping all sites and going exclusive with istock. Istock protect their users and their images, more so if you are exclusive. I seriously don't think shutterstock and a lot of the other sites have the money to evn attempt to tackle this kind of blatent missuse of images.

no full size sensor, no sense in an upgrade

You would have a large number of very pissed off sports photographers if that ever happened, remember this is primarily aimed at sports and pj's they like the crop factor.

If canon now has 4 stop IS technology (in there 70-200 f4L IS), why arn't they rolling this out across the board.

Note: I want the 100-400 L so was hoping they would upgrade the IS to 4 stop (from 2) and upgrade the weather proofing (to lose its name "the dust pump").

I agree about the weather sealing. While Canon as well as Nikon make good, weather sealed bodies, it's very hard to get a clear statement with regards to weather sealed lenses. Olympus made that very clear from the start of the 4/3 system, and now Pentax has done the same with some of their lenses.

If the lense has a rubber ring around the mount it's weather sealed, the exception is the 17-40 f4.0L it has the rubber seal but needs a filter to seal it properly.

I believe they replaced the 16-35 because the image quality wasn't any better than the 17-40 f4.0, all you were paying for was the speed, this new one should move the game on.

Hmmm I thought the whole deal was dodgy, I had almost reached payout then wam the sites gone along with my money, not impressed. I would have thought they should have paid out all that was owed even if payout hadn't been reached.

I've had a low acceptance at IV as well ... only 2 out of 9 submitted. I just contacted them (through their site) asking what images they want/need. Hopefully I'll get some decent answers. I'll let you all know what I hear.  :)

I have have asked the same questions of them and had no answers, it's hard to decide what to upload as they are so bloody picky, I think this site is a waste of time.

I have a large number of Norwegian specific images on this site and not one sale in 6 months, this place is a complete waste of time and I'm going to remove all my images net time I have a look.
