Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 5d mark II / 7D
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:24 »
So I guess we will be waiting til fall for this one???  :(
I thinks so ,since the existing 5D is doing so well I guess Canon is not in a rush to add the new one to the collection. it seems that  even  Nikon D300 wasn't enough to change their mind:(

Since Canon are discounting the 5D like a *insult removed* and if you believe all the chatter on other forums they can't sell it I believe that canon might just keep this body going indefinitely, there may not be a market justification to repace it. I feel pretty sure that they would have replaced it by now if they had any intention to do so.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Need help with camera choice!
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:21 »
At present, the best microstock camera is the 5D Canon.

Remember that the most important choice is the lens quality, not the body. Canon has the best overall quality and quantity of lenses.

First up I don't see how you can make your first statement, please gives reasons why the 5D is the best microstock camera, is it just because you have one. There are many cameras it's equal and quite a few which are better.

Next one I don't think that there is a hell of a lot of difference between the lense line up of canon and nikon, canon make poor quality wide angle lense, why else are all those pro guys over at Fred Miranda and other pro forums using Leica and CZ.......

I now get quite a few subscription sales at DT and less credit but at 123 I am now getting more credit sales than subscription sales.

It's all relative, 30,000 in the US is nothing but 30,000 in 2/3's of the world is a lot of money, he comes from Brazil maybe it's a good income in Brazil.

New Sites - General / Re: TotallyPhotos was sold

What I wonder about this site is what has happened to all the photos which were submitted, who has them and what are they doing with them? Anyone have any answers?

General Macrostock / Re: Photographers Direct
« on: January 27, 2008, 14:14 »
You can't, what's stopping you, does the company check?

I don't think they do. It's quite a nice system actually, although very basic in many respects, like the design of the website. Only wish they had a more balanced view on micros. Travel photography and all kinds of exotic images seems to be their strongest side. Just the kind of images that won't sell well on micros anyway. I guess "young-lady-with-headset-isolated-on-white" won't sell too well there, but you never know.

Should you sell anything there, you have to take care of invoicing, money transfers etc. yourself.

I've now found out they do check, or that they read posts here at least, if I hadn't posted this topic then I'm sure Chris Barton wouldn't have found out and terminated my membership, no great loss as I never sold anything.

If I keep getting the same sales here as I did last year with the new prices I'll be very happy. It might even make going exclusive worthwhile.

You know, Gisele Bndchen now charges in euros because of the dollar devaluation.  And mind you, she's blond.  ;)

When you look that good you can charge whatever currency you want because people are always gonna want to buy you.

Only 499 to go and I get a silver cannister, woohoo, do IS send a bottle of bubbles.

I made more money at IS last month than all the rest I submit too combined, I don't like the idea of being exclusive but it's starting to look a little better, especially since I hardly ever upload anything to anywhere, I might as well just upload to the one site where my shots sell sufficiently to make it worthwhile.

I think it's funny how folks at SS do a big joyous thank-you everytime S announces payout, it cracks me up, SS should be thanking them not the other way round, it's pathetic.

I'm curious, why some here celebrate the losses in macrostock?

Regards,
Adelaide

Because they are stupid. ;D

The person may want to purchase the image privately because his/her intended use lies outside of the IS licensing agreement - using it as part of a logo comes immediately to mind.

I've done this a handful of times for $50 to $100 a pop without any problems at all. First I check out the buyer's credentials and intended use, then spell out the rules by referencing the IS licensing agreement. I email the image (at the approprate resolution) after I've received the funds via PayPal.

I worked as a freelance pro before coming to microstock, and regularly did this sort of thing. I don't understand why everyone is so skittish about it - would you be so hesitant if they approached you after finding your image on a non-commercial site (like flickr, photo.net, fredmiranda, ...)? Probably not.

Well put, I also think that the IS agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on, there have been many IS users even exclusives who have had images used which fall outside the terms of the agreement and IS hasn't done a thing about it, every time a question is asked about this on the IS forum it's get locked ASAP, it's the same deal with other MS sites, I believe that due to the cost of MS images it's not worth the effort for MS companies to get lawyers involved for bugger all return.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Dramatic best match changes...
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:45 »
I just tried it an that's not what's happing. I searched on "picnic table" and Tacojim has three in the first twenty.
Better look closer ... my "picnic table" search shows only 2 by tacojim.
A search in my market niche shows only 2 of my files in the top 100 (in 3rd & 4th place - yay for me!), where there used to be over a dozen. One of my shots is also in 101st place, which gives me a little bonus.

This best match search is definitely in place. My IS sales were down by about 50% yesterday and today isn't looking much better, but that may due to the big American holiday. As to how this search change will affect sales in the long run, we'll just have to wait and see.

I can see why, you're probably the best airliner guy on IS and this new best match search has killed your shot's which used to cover most of the first couple of pages.

« on: November 17, 2007, 11:48 »
....None of your images that show up in the best match search on the first page of your portfolio would be usable in the US.

Most of my downloads are from the US

And how do you know that, as far as I am aware you are unable to find out who downloads your images at IS or most other sites.

The US dollar is losing value even again our Brazilian currency.  It's even starting to be a major economical concern, because it's bad for our exporting companies.

Regards,
Adelaide

A lot of companies are now starting to trade in the Euro, the company I work for prefers the Euro to the USD, that's another nail in the USD coffin.

sending files to scout can take weeks.

More like months, I've been waiting since August for appeals on 2 images.

At the moment DT, 123RF, IS and BS haven't rejected any of the images I've submitted in the last 4 months, but SS won't accept anything I try to submit.

Too bad we get paid in US$ I'm down 15% in 2 months just on the exchange rate! But I won't complain sicne I've been getting good money before!  :D

It's only going to get worse, the USD isn't going to recover anytime soon.

It would be very easy to do, all it would take is a different name and two different paypal accounts, I even suspect I know a person who is doing this. If you don't live in the US or Canada it's even easier since you don't need to supply IS with any tax information.

On a daily basis she is now outsold by Yuri on iStock alone, so with all his other sites just sit back in awe at the money his team makes.

I've always said she would probably make far more money if she was on other sites, exclusivity bah humbug, Yuri has showen the way to be really successful at this game more than any other microstock shooter.
