Canva / Re: Canva
« on: October 13, 2014, 17:59 »
Anyone having trouble with FTP uploading to CANVA today?  I just tried to upload several files and the system seemed to go crazy.  I've no idea whether any files made it through or not.

Yeah I tried a couple times today starting this morning and as of a few minutes ago, I still can't upload. Not sure what is going on but hopefully they will see the replies here and look at it...

I have seen a few more downloads this week but nothing groundbreaking. What I am seeing though, the images that used to net me .28 for a sub are now netting me $1.00 or more per sale. Is this about the new pricing on IS? I am not sure but I am okay with the higher royalties.

28
Not a single sale since they changed over. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch.... you get the idea. I am not sure if it is the new prices but their changes certainly didn't help me any.

I have seen a few this morning too. Hoping there are more coming because they are not good this month.

Buttons look the same here on Safari too. Am I just not seeing something different or really that asleep still?

Nice little tool for those times you missed the focus and cannot figure out why... Thanks for sharing it.

Got my first sale over at Canva this week. I have only been with them for a few weeks and while it is not enough to retire on, it was encouraging. Just thought I would share some positive news with you all.

Here it is: http://500px.com/settings/store/sales

That is your own sales but I think the OP was asking for a top selling link to see what is selling in general.

Where I can see images just sold in 500px Prime. Latest sold. If 500px Prime shows images which are recently sold, please share the link. Thanks!

I haven't found one yet. I was looking as well. I am not sure they have done anything like that on Prime at this point.

Anyone know what type of images are selling there? Landscape, people, or other thing? Curious. I have had food stuff up there a while but nothing selling. I don't think that is their strong suite though.

I have a very small port. or food images over there and have sold one image in about 3 weeks. They are small so who knows what will happen but the percentages are decent so even if you set the price at what SS or IS would sell your image at, you make more when they sell. (If I guess I should say) Time will tell if they are going to be anything.

So far we are starting out better this month than in August. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Sunday was a no sale day this week but that is the only one so far this month.

I bought two Canon 40D's about a year ago used for around $300 each. They are a little cheaper now and there are a lot of low shutter count bodies still out there. The sensor is 10 mp and with a good lens, they are a decent body. I use one for most of what I shoot with a Canon 50mm F/2.5 Macro lens and the combo produces a great image. Hope that helps a little.

I would also recommend KEH.com for used gear. Used them a lot over the years and they are great to deal with.

You can choose not to meet the standard true, but likewise, they can choose not to accept those images and then you have no sales. I worked hard to get my head around what they wanted and my acceptance rate has climb to about 95% with them.

It can be frustrating but you do always have the option to walk away.

I went through a period of time that I could not get anything through SS. I even created a thread about it and spent several weeks discussing the whole situation with a few others here about how bad it was. The funny thing is, I questioned what had changed and what I discovered was that it wasn't me but it was. They did make some changes to what they will take. No, they have not admitted that but it is clearly the case. I was submitting the same shallow DOF images that I had been and they clearly were not liking them anymore. It was that simple. What I was shooting no longer fit their needs. I have since adjusted what I am doing and am having little to no rejections.

Bottom line is that every agency is different so it falls upon us to figure out what they want then submit images that fall within those guidelines. They don't hate you. There is no Attila. And you didn't forget how to shoot. You just have to get what they like in your head and shoot images in that style for SS.

I have only had 3 sales over at DT this month but I have a very small port. there so I am not shocked. The month started like crap but is ramping up toward the end for me. Hopefully, this will continue that way.

Just as an FYI, I used to shoot news and uploaded a ton of stuff from the area I was working in. They NEVER sold a single thing for me. I even shot some NASCAR and NHRA stuff for them. Never sold. I think that you really have to be "in the thick of it" to get sales. Something like images from Ferguson last week or a similar event that is garnering national/international attention might be a great seller but that is about it.

If I worked in NY or Chicago, maybe then I could find something that sells. It is hard to get anything out of them if you are shooting local news or events.

I don't have much up there so I can't really think my experience is typical. Seems like everywhere is a little slow this month though.

plus you can eat or drink them. The food stylist use fake (often poisonous) stuff in them as well...

Depends on the stylist. We will not use anything that isn't edible on a shot here.

I have a shot of some agave nectar running off a spoon with an isolated background. The * thing has sold so many times and is all over the web on some notable sites. I shot it off hand, unplanned, and was sure it would never sell. It has on 4 agencies now and on shutter stock, it is one of the highest selling images I have.....

Go figure, right?

I am glad you are having success with your submissions but gloating about it in a thread where people are discussing struggles with submissions hardly seems necessary.
