This thread is quite old but it's the most recent about the problem with Paypal's automatic currency conversion.
Today was my first time I found out this greedy policy of PP. When I made a search I found many people complaining about the same for few years. I don't know why this never happened before with my account until today.
As far as I understood there is no way to avoid it. When I withdraw my money they convert them to my local currency on an extremely bad conversion rate. I'm losing a lot of hard earned money!  >:(
Unfortunately Payoneer is not very different.
I need other less greedy payment processor.

What keeps confusing me:

1) Having problems with a single model means SS is bad but Stocksy is good?
2) The problems are only on SS? What if the images get sold by other agency and the model sees them and takes both you to the court? The model could follow you anywhere not only on SS. How did she found only about SS but not about the other agencies you work with?
3) Is your team stuck in a single model? If true, that means bad bad bad management and you should fire the manager who got you into a such nasty situation but do not shoot SS which understandably is trying to keep safe its ass(that is the rest of contributors).

For a fair judgement would be good the hear to model's opinion too, not only yours.

#3:  He already said he has multiple models.   In fact, multiple models in that shoot is part of why taking down photos of one model would be such a problem.  Evidently there are a lot of images of groups or multiple models that include this model.  this means that probably most of the shoot would have to come down if he agrees to the models demands.

As for hearing from the model, the OP paid her, she signed a release giving fully informed consent, now she's blackmailing him.  Unless the OP is outright lying, this appears pretty cut and dried.

The one thing I disagree with the OP on is SS being the baddie.  They asked for clarification, which seems reasonable.   Although they threatened to take down the pictures,  it doesn't sound like they have, and they have not closed the OPs account for not taking them down.  Most likely the proof he furnished has satisfied them.

Read Reply #45, SS are not satisfied!

Am I missing something or have you still not answered the 'have they signed a model release form' question? Your last post said that you 'showed them a contract' which is slightly different than them actually signing it. I have no reason to believe you don't have a signed model release, but your repeated avoidance of the question does make me think.

Yes, you are missing a lot of things obviously! It's good to read carefully before accusing somebody!

"That is what i'm talking about. I have release signed, i have backstage photos including how they get money from us and signing papers. But still this is not a guarantee you will be safe. In fact even in this case model just can write to Shutterstock and they will close account or push you to delete images by yourself.

Shutterstock is unfair and they just use you and than waste into trash when they want."

This is exactly the same e-mail my friend recieved!
He is absolutely sure there's nothing overpaid to him, because his previous payment (first for 2017) was taxed with 30%.
The second payment for 2017 (yesterday) is taxed with almost 50%! So there's at least one case with wrong tax withholding!

my highest was $.191. those were the days, all gone I'm afraid!

derek, please don't put a period (full stop) symbol between $ and 191 because it's the same as $0.191 which I suppose is not what you meant.
No bad feelings just want to help avoiding misunderstandings like in some other threads.

« on: March 23, 2017, 08:32 »
I too can confirm that January and February totals were higher for me than previous months.
I have not uploaded anything since November.
I am waiting for March results and will do decisions after that.

Also I noticed many people complain that February was bad compared to January. But they did not compare to previous months (under the old royalty structure)

January stats included some unreported December sales. When I removed them my totals for Jan and Feb are lower than every month in the previous year.
No more uploads from me!

I still can't find the answer why my total $ for credit pack sales on ESP statement is about 15% less than on the old IS statistics chart!?
Do you have the same difference for Jan and Feb?

If there is an overall increase in sales at SS, it means there is a chance for revenue increase. Not a great one, but a small one and that's all you need sometimes. Common sense says that as the pie gets bigger, everyone gets a smaller piece as contributor numbers increase. That's not necessarily true. The pie gets bigger, but certain contributors take a bigger piece of the pie sometimes. Common sense can fool you.

As a regular buyer, I see what's going on better than most people. I was downloading about 10 images the other day and I noticed that most of the images I was going to download belong to one of the more prolific contributors...African Studio. I work in the healthcare space and these guys have 17,000 healthcare photos in their portfolio.

You know what else I noticed? They have good keywording. They have over 40 keywords each to maximize discoverability. I think many of you guys are looking at things that doesn't exist. While some of you see threats from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and parts of Asia, I see the biggest threats from the big studios like African Studio, and RawPixel.com who are eating a bigger piece of the pie and leaving scraps for everyone else.

I expect the toughest competition from big studios with high quality work and high quality keywording, not from inexperience upstarts. Most small contributors are too inexperienced and doesn't produce good keywording, and their work will rarely be seen. Big studios dominate a good part of the search results. i suspect that the top 10% of the contributors make 90% of the profits, leaving the last 10% to the other 90% of contributors.

BTW they are from Ukraine (Africa Studio) and probably get about 1% of all royalties paid to contributors.

So far, so good but the account of the other thief is still active:

CB deleted more than 15000 images but why they didn't close the account!?

Image Sleuth / Re: Check this portfolio on Colourbox

They removed only the two example images I sent. One of which is by Yuri Arcurs and was part of group of images from the same shoot:

http://peopleimages.com/image/ID-306972-spf-50
https://www.colourbox.com/supplier/rahman-kader-232062?page=8

If CB is a serious company they should remove immediately such accounts. Everything is so clear, images with very popular models by very popular photographers. They obviously want to have these nice photos in their collection and don't hurry to delete them. But meanwhile they infringe the copyrights of the authors and every buyer who downloaded some of these images actually don't have a legit license to use them.

I encourage everyone to check the site. There are a big number of thieves and stolen images. I found couple of mine there and send the site message to investigate.

If your stolen images are in different portfolio, do you mind to post a link here?

There is another thread about another thief on CB. It would be good if the admin merge them.

OMG almost 50000 files, we should investigate CB collection for other thieves. They don't review images, once approved as contributor everybody can upload anything.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: ESP
« on: February 22, 2017, 17:30 »
Question for those who are not on ESP yet (if ever) :
I need to delete 1 file, or deactivate it, or just make it unsearchable by taking away the keywords.
Is this in any way possible at the moment?
Another agency wants to sell the rights, and I can delete it from EVERY agency, except Istock.
Any one knows the trick to do this?

You should write to contributor support and explain the situation. Somebody wrote here they removed some file from his portfolio by his request.

So after analyzing my sales stats I realized they fulfilled my worst expectations. Great amount of royalties under $0.28 including many under $0,10 (and yes I have $0,02; $0,03; $0,04 sales).
The most discouraging thing for me is the humiliating 15% they pay me (I was at 17% before but they needed that extra 2% on top of their 83%). So even when they sold my file on Getty for $85 my cut is only $12,75, not to mention I have $0.08 royalties for Getty sales.
I'm not uploading my new images since the changes announcement. Now I'm sure there's no way to change my mind until something considerably better in terms of royalties for nonexclusives changes.

I forgot to mention my stats for credit sales for January on ESP are about $20 lower than on the old IS chart.

$0.25 for subs (Small to Large size) is too low for low earning tier agency.
They should pay equal commission to their Distribution/Fotosearch subs according to the number of lifetime sales.
BTW I wonder why my Sales History stats show few hundred sales more than on my Profile page. It's not something new and will ask them when I'm close to the next level. Unfortunately my sales there are going down.

RAW/additional format sale is not Sell the rights license (the big money) and they pay only "double the royalties for the maximum size".

https://submit.shutterstock.com/earnings/top-performers/

Has anyone kept link to the old page? I hope it is still there. New page does not allow to choose new images first.

Why should we have the possibility to put new image first in a page about top performers??

Because this was the only way to see the performance of new images in order by upload date. It was very helpful for me and a lot of contributors in my country shared in a forum they are not happy with this change too.
I can't understand how hard is SS to give us the opportunity to sort images by: Total Earnings, Total Downloads and Upload Date

I see very hardly a new image  being a top performer.
(It is a little like when I see job offers asking for young people with 30 years of experience  ;D)
Or we have not the same understanding of the meaning of "Top performer".

But I agree that Shutterstock should give us more possibilities

It wasn't called "Top performer", it was something else I don't remember!

I'm out too!
Top 100 author, Top 20 Author of the Month, Trendsetter and Weekly Top Seller...
I don't care much about their badges. But that's an indicator of High Commercial Value images...
They will never be like Stocksy with mostly non-exclusive content sold for lower prices everywhere in the world!
