It seems that credit downloads has stayed pretty much the same and earnings are -33%. I make about few hundreds a month with some lousy illustrations.

This story was told you by the non-exclusive vector artist.

Thanks for sharing! May I ask your portfolio size?

It's in the thousands-range (I suppose you don't need precise information, you just want to know if it's statistical error or coincidence if I have a portfolio of 500 images :D I don't).

Ok. Yes I just wanted to know if you had a very little portfolio then it would have been pretty obvious to have big ups :)

Finding a hot niche is hard, but really rewarding. I've seen that too.

Thanks Dook and ShadySue, now I'm well aware that this is not a trap trying to force me towards exclusivity  ;D

"   Nominate for Signature+ Collection

Important! Check box above if you would like to nominate this file for the Signature+ Collection. It will now be inspected by the Signature+ Content Editors. "

I see this text when uploading to IS. Has it always been there? Or can I now upload exclusive files without being totally exclusive?

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Best platform for selling direct
« on: September 28, 2014, 06:41 »
How about Shopify? Might be a little more expensive thought.

I think selling direct is a very tough area to conquer. Driving high converting traffic to your website is more than hard. In my opinion it's waste of time and money for most of us. All the buyers are already getting good and loyal service with micro/macro agencies. It's pretty hard to build a website that customers trust and buy from.

Something like Symbiostock could work, but it should drive it's traffic from Symbiostock search engine to really work.

If you want to get a lots of traffic to your website then you should give images for free. Only problem is that free traffic is so hard to monetize. Unsplash is a good example of high quality free stuff.

I have my own website with 3,000 monthly visitors and one sale for few dollars :D I've let it be just a hobby as I can make so much more just by uploading to microstock.

How about exclusives? Should be pretty good stuff that I would buy 3x credits.

I think iStock will definitely drive more credit sales now, but does it compensate the $ earnings.

Next movement should be raising the contributor commissions to a decent level.

I was having a good month - until today. It's as though someone turned the tap off at midnight. The only things that have been selling are really old files that haven't seen the light of day for a while. Very curious...

Same here. Worst friday since...don't know when  ???

59
Yep that would be the correct move Mantis :) With current curve it's zero monthly earnings before 2015 :D

I'm on pace for my worst month at FT in years. And I'm kind of ok with that. I'm seeing growth at places like Creative Market, so this kind of shift is a good thing. Up with the good companies, down with the bad ones. I like that trend.

That sounds a very good direction indeed. I'm ok with Fotolia fading to opacity 0% and other companies gaining their place.

60
I'm having a deep dive also @ FT. Constantly uploading, but still going down. I assume that's happening because of their "6-month kill" that is killing my bestsellers. Now we are talking about files that have been downloaded 1000-2000 times a piece! First sales are consistent 10 dl's per day and then overnight it's hardly one per day.

Have anyone else seen that after six months of uploading a file it just disappears from the "Relevance"? I've seen that for few of my files. It is not as important to be a leader in "Downloads" that it's to be in "Relevance".

I think that cut down is way too harsh. I understand that fotolia wants to push new content in front of the buyers and yes, it's also good for new contributors, but if we look at it from the quality perspective then I think their "Relevance" isn't pushing the best ones. The ones that really has the best quality and sales potential.

I'm sure that fotolia (and us) is losing huge amounts of revenue with their out-of-date search. I can say this because when overnight-kill beats up my bestsellers then those views are heading to files that aren't even close to the quality I have. I'm not being selfish here. Even my ass can see that.

61
First of all, at istock new vectors sells awfully. It needs to be either a huge collection of vector elements or a specific niche that customers need and you might see a nickel here and there.

I recommend you to look up the best selling vectors and see what kinda stuff sells. Don't copy them, but it should give you a perspective what sells and what not. Try also other agencies.

General Stock Discussion / June 2014 earning results
« on: July 01, 2014, 02:42 »
Didn't see one yet so let's fire it up!

-------

Pretty good month for me. Fotolia somehow 25% down. Maybe it was some cut down of my bestsellers, DPT opt out or just a summer slump.

Compared to May 2014 (only vectors):

DL's +3%
Earnings -7%
Portfolio Growth +6%

SS - 45%
FT- 16%
IS - 14%
Low Ones Together - 25%

63
I hope all the worst for that !#%&! company until they pay like they should!

64
Maybe MSG could provide one for illustrators too?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Lytro Illum Camera

Awesome technique. Could become a big thing in website designs.

68
Just wondering if a dollarphotoclub or some other one-dollar-flat-rate would give contributors 70%, would you opt in?

I get around $0.70 - $0.80 per download (last 50,000 dls from various microstock sites).

69
Could people put portfolio growth percent also when putting comparisons. That would be awesome!

70
Very good month for me.

Compared to Apr 14:

Portfolio: +16%
Downloads: +15%
Earnings: +26%

If their coding department keeps up the good work, it's probably going to last forever.

72
But If we could make it big, like millions of images instantly to new site, I think anything is possible.

I'm kind of the opposite point of view. Big agencies always seemed to get muddled. I'd prefer smaller partnerships. It's easier to keep a good focus on the contributors. I think that is the downside to any talk of revolution because you just can't move EVERYBODY to some new awesome place.

I understand you. If we want to turn microstock upside down we should probably have like 70%+ of images to really do a revolution. I don't think it's ever possible, because people are from so many countries, but a nice thought anyway. I'm just pretty sick with many agencies so it keeps me alive dreaming of better chances :)

73
Now this is a great poll. I've had lots of thoughts on agency that we contributors could run. This gives idea how many images people on here have. It would be so awesome to put our images together in fair trade agency. It should be run by many contributors, not by one dictator CEO. Symbiostock is great but I'm thinking more of an agency type here.

That is actually a great Idea. Sad thing is most of us do not know how to run a company nor code.

I don't think this is the answer..... Shutter Stock success is due to much more than just putting images on line...

Yep. It's a lot of work, right pricing and getting exposure. But If we could make it big, like millions of images instantly to new site, I think anything is possible. And think about when our agency would start to fly we could delete our images from scammers and they would get what they deserve. It's all about being unite.

Let's play with this idea: What if we would have all contributors as one, we could destroy any agency and put all images in our new agency. In "real" world workers have these unitys that keeps them safe from bad bosses. We don't, but we defo need one.

Seems mine is closed too, though I did not receive any e-mail from them.

Fotolia is my second earner.  I opted out, but did not delete any images from Fotolia.
You might not be upset Ron, but I am.

Sorry to hear. I hope lots of sales for you in other companies.
