iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is istock exclusive contributor worth it?
« on: September 09, 2020, 10:54 »
iStock exclusivity is the great thing if you have a proper portfolio and ready to work under the briefs. And to work hard, BTW.

I'm iStock exclusive since 2007, and I made barely $1000-$1200 per month, which was nothing. But it was my side-project all those years. Since I started to work focused on it 2016, I have the constant growth in my income. Since 2018, I makes my live in the USA exclusively from iStock/Getty and I dropped almost all my freelance gigs. This pandemic year going almost 1.5 times better than the previous one. RPD is higger than $4 (combined for photo and video), with 35% royalty (and I expecting to reach 40% for video this year). Video is growing fast, photo is more tough market but still good.

But you have to evaluate your portfolio. You will have a good income only if you will have good S+ acceptance level, and the criteria for S+ acceptance is very strict and specific. It is not enough just to have a "nice quality content" - many great SS-like portfolios would have no chances there. Do your research. Long story short, if you don't shooting people, forget about it (not quite true but close enough).

And keep in mind that iStock exclusivity means TOTAL exclusivity: you can't sell RF-imagery nowhere else, so, all your accounts in other agencies must be shutted dowb prior you will move to exclusivity.

BTW, if you do speak Russian, check out my webinar "Интимные тайны iStock" - almost 5 hours, lol, but people reported that it was helpful :)

Hi Alex, a couple of questions. I have seen that my sales in Getty Moment have increased and that now it is more difficult to find the E + collection in Getty ... What percentage of your earnings comes directly from getty? 50%? If it is from Signature + getty it can have a lot of impact a change of getty search algorithm would be terrible.
What is your RPD profit per photo? Mine at Getty only 3.81. I also consider exclusivity ... but my earnings in shutter are 4 times higher than in istock.

Thanks!

General Stock Discussion / Re: August 2020 Earnings Report
« on: September 03, 2020, 04:46 »
My shutterstock RPD was 1,19, a lot of big single and ther and enchanced sales (level 5)...istock 0,48...adobestock...0,87...gettyimages... 3,01...

I was accepted a few years ago directly and also collaborated through w61 in its day and at the beginning the sales were fascinating. However, there is a flood of archives and the burial of the oldest and today it is an agency that is not worth it. They have not updated the upload system and have not made it sustainable.

57
NO, my stock videos are bad and havent this ratio but sell

Is best? maybe.

58
Freepik is a pyramid scam. Unlimited downloads for $ 10 a month can only pay 0.09 if only 50 photos are downloaded per month (0.20 to be distributed to 50%) This means that sales are well hidden or worse

General Stock Discussion / Re: is this all our fault?
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:10 »
I know many people who have complained that at the same time they have unlimited downloads from their portfolio on Freepik. The answer is yes. As a collective there is no unity.

Any exclusivge program with adobe i will join in

Shutterstock.com / Re: Let's hit SS where it hurts
« on: June 01, 2020, 17:05 »
The way to hurt them is to contact design agencies and ask them to stop using shutterstock.
Tell every designer you know.

Also pressure companies that have partnerships with them.
These are a few that are listed on shutterstock website.

Great idea specially if you are a shareholder of one of these companies! It is a shame to work with Shitstock.

"Hi, I would like to unsubscribe from your Netflix channel while you continue to feed on shutterstock images and videos. This agency exploits and discriminates against us, abusing a situation of power that has damaged my economy."

62
If you close your account, they can sell your photos, the photos will remain in this agency for one year...  for a year without pay you any download!

63
I have been very unmotivated for a long time. I stopped investing in models and locations and I am retiring from premium agencies.

Again is this for exclusive content only?

And again is this for exclusive content only?

Anyone knows? Mat?

Thanks
Once accepted, you can submit only exclusive content, I guess. At least that's how it works with almost anything outside microstock.

NO. Adobes premium is not exclusive. i,m in
Thank you for the info.
How is it premium then, based on what? And if you can sell the same pictures on other agencies maybe even much cheaper, how do they justify premium prices?

I really asked in up to three emails about the non exclusivity limitation, if there was a maximum or minimum price or any prohibited agency.... and they never answered me. Offset is exclusive to me (for other more fortunate contributors not) and getty is exclusive and abusive for me so those markets in my case were ruled out.
For a similar price you can send the photos to Alamy, upload them to Creative Market at the same price you adobe (and you will never sell any)

Contractually, in my case it was never clear.

I stopped uploading content because I make more money with microstock than with any kind of premium. Upload some family photos that i dont want in micro.
Thank you for the quick response.
For example, I contribute to a "macrostock" agency and they ask for content exclusivity. On the other hand, I send my microstock files to EyeEm and if accepted for their Getty portfolio these files are sold side by side with  the "macrostock" agency  files. And the "macrostock" agency sends their files to, like, 50 partners, Adobe, Offset and Getty being among them. So no exclusivity condition put on them. The whole stock market looks like a complete mess and most of the agencies are asking for premium prices for files that don't justify those prices at all. At the end, as weird as it sounds, microstock market seems to be the most honest and straigthforward  market out there.

For me it is a financial issue. I put a lot of effort into a macro distribution agency and with better photos my income was lower than my microstock portfolio. More quality demands with brutal screens of content, exclusivity and less money.
The only coherent exclusivity I see is that of Stocksy, but unfortunately I'm not there.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Good news from Creative Market

It is still the agency with the best percentage paid to us. The fault of these things is ours for swallowing commissions of 15% such as istock or download all you want for 11.99 like canva... but crying for an agency to cut 70% to 60%

General - Top Sites / Re: canva 11,95 unlimited
« on: November 06, 2019, 08:35 »
Shutterstock and Adobe should prohibit contributors from participating in subscribed unlimited uploading photos to their collection, but now that I think about it, istock must have banned its contributors many years ago from participating in subscription sites like shutter and adobe.

..... Lets do the same thing we all did to Depositphotos - They ended up having an outdated library within 48hours when a lot of us with expensive portfolios deleted our pictures.
......

What happened with Depositphotos? Was it discussed here or somewhere I could read about it? Could somebody drop a link or explain briefly?
Thanks

yes, I also requested that he be restored because i could not consult anything

I have more than 10K images there and I was in around top 30 in Canva before the drop last year. I don't see any of this subscription sales.

Hey Deyan, please see my last reply.

You will see subscription sales in the new interface, which is rolling out by next Monday. I can confirm you have subscription sales. Sorry that it's not showing up on the old dashboard.

I send e-mail to close my account because this will kill my other agencies income.

Stocksy / Re: How are the video sales on Stocksy?
« on: September 11, 2019, 11:14 »
I know (rejected direct) people who sell video in stocksy through other contributors, but they are sporadic sales. Is a photo site.

That would be a violation of co-op rules.  Stocksy is not meant to be a agency for distributors.

Addictive for example
