iStockPhoto.com / Re: Exclusive vs Not
« on: June 15, 2018, 00:34 »
don't you mean contributing and getting competely ripped off vs not contributing

152
I can sometimes make $800-$1000 a (week)day with 10,000+ clips, but $200-$400 per day is more likely for me.

February, 2018 was my BME, averaging $5,000 per week during that month.

So, it can be achievable with hard work.

I would take anonymous posters with seven post history comments with a grain of salt.

eta: eight posts :)

Why? I would think it's more likely that a non-anonymous poster would feel the need to improve their sales numbers in a forum post.

There are two reasons an anonymous poster would post about sales on a forum:

Ego boost (myself included).
To troll. But posting about good sales would be a very counterproductive way of trolling, so you'd have to be, shall we say, not so smart. It's much more valuable to troll about bad sales, which I think some people might actually be doing (which really is a good thing for all of us).

The first reason is more likely, and there would be no ego boost with made up numbers. The ego boost only comes from posting actual numbers.

I would describe posting one's financial results/ sales info for all to see 50% Ego boost 50% Stupidity

It's not possible to make this sort of money from microstock. Some people will claim it is, however most contributors are earning less than $500 a month. At the very best it can earn you a few expenses. Definitely keep the day job and only do micro if you enjoy the hobby of shooting stock.

123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: June 01, 2018, 06:20 »
Thanks, actually just over $4000 on SS good months or $3000 up on bad. Never broken $5000 on SS.

OMG, Congratulations!

Can you show us your SS portfolio? This would be very inspiring for everyone and would teach us what kind of images or illustrations work best. Although, I understand that genius can not be imitated: one is born with it or not.

Thanks and congrats again!

I don't think Justanotherphotographer thinks it's a great idea to "teach" 20,000 readers what sells so they can imitate.

I don't think it'd take much encouragement to get Justanotherphotographer to share their portfolio. Anyone who is so willing to share their earnings info is doing so out of ego, otherwise they'd know better and protect their investment. Boasting of how much we make is just shooting yourself in the foot. There's a difference between encouraging other content creators with advice and ideas but sharing financial info serves little purpose.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Video sale for $1.50?
« on: May 31, 2018, 09:56 »
back in the 1990's, a video cost about $250 or more. photos cost $100.

the prices dropped, and they will continue to do so. now you can get videos for $5 and photos for 50 cents or less.

every time a new photo or video is uploaded, leading to an increase in supply, the end result will be a decrease in pricing unless there is a matching increase in demand.

prices will fluctuate upwards if a company drops SD/NTSC, HD, etc, but that is only going to happen once per company, it could be in the distant future. if a company suddenly decides to dorp all of its HD content, the overall price in the market for videos will go up. but a company can only do this once.

it is like yuri says. if you don't like falling prices, you shouldn't be in the business (his words not mine).
You make complete sense. It's time for 95% of us to move onwards and upwards to better things outside of the stock game. I blame the contributors who can't help themselves by posting about their sales and success, thereby encouraging the competition that will force many of them out.

156
I think the point is "humor". People should give it a try.

And of course it's beneath her talent. The typical stock business shot is, in my opinion, maybe the most ridiculous thing you can do with a camera. It's not hard to make fun of something so incredibly cheesy and unnatural. Game of Thrones is a few steps up from that.  ;)

I did find it a little amusing but got the idea after 30 seconds. It wasn't particularly clever humour, and although a lot of business shots are cheesy, plenty of them are very slick and a fair amount of talent goes into creating them. I've never been interested in shooting business/medical subjects however I'd say these content creators and actors are just as professional as the people on the GOT set. Fame tends to blow things out of proportion.

157
are you going to continue uploading 4k there?

158
Mildly amusing. Apart from the obvious satire I'm not sure what the point is apart from belittling an industry she evidently sees as beneath her talent.

4K is a myth. 1080 shooting is the only way to go

160
Yes f course I pay tax on my stock income. I don't want to pay thousands in penalties and/or go to prison

The cream always rises

163
nobody makes any sales on VB/SBs

Shady Sue is right.

The publication must pay for and download the image from Getty/iStock.

No, they don't.

Apologies, that's only the case for exclusives.
It's not the case for exclusives.

It is the case for exclusives. I was with Getty for years until very recently and left for a few reasons. You can't use anything anywhere otherwise you'll risk having Getty send out one of their infamous legal extortion letters to the party who used the photo. If Getty knew you were distributing photos on the side that they have exclusivity to, they would not hesitate in terminating your agreement.

For those who are with these two agencies, have you had sales? If yes, how long are you with them?

I have also a question about eyeem, i have a port of 120 pics, all selected for the premium, if 120 photos are selected for the premium collection (getty), will they all be automatically accepted by Getty? Could getty decide to refuse some? I started recently and so far, I can see 25 of my pictures on the Getty website ...

thanks!

I have no answer to your question, but what percentage would you end up with out of the Getty sale? Is it really worth bothering about being there via an extra middleman?

How to get to Getty?.... without a middleman like EyeEm if you just started?

https://workwithus.gettyimages.com/en, if you really want to.  ::)

I just pulled out of Getty (RM macro) after many years. They still make some big sales but there are plenty of negatives that go with having your photos there.

Just sold a 4k video and I got $191.00  :D :D

Excellent and by broadcasting this 1000 more videographers will begin uploading like crazy

Envato / Re: Envato - Set your own price
« on: April 16, 2018, 20:53 »
Envato are on the same level as 123RF and Motion Elements when it comes to video. Which means they are not competitive. Only Depositphotos and Alamy video could be worse.

maybe i don't know, but checking video i see some cutworm with good portfolio have 100000 and more sales..

That's because they will be gutter feeding, accepting peanuts for their video sales. Selling video under US$20 net per sale is just not a viable business model, even for a sole operator with relatively small overheads.

Since there are so many variables which combine to generate sales for a particular artist, it's highly subjective to try and determine whether or not sales have peaked or not.

These include; growth of your portfolio relative to growth of the entire collection, buyer trends, market ups and downs, etc etc. It's all about staying ahead of competitors, which is best done by finding niches, uploading quality marketable work and being early onto the game for new adaptations such as 4K was a few years ago. This is all obvious stuff and I suspect for some sellers at SB, sales are healthy. I'm slightly down on last year but there's plenty of time yet.

170
Yep, I chose 'not interested' for that last question, would I be willing to help other film makers. Let them do it the hard way in the real world like the rest of us. It sorts out the dreamers from the persistent grafters.

171
This is like giving away your trade secrets IMO. I encourage other videographers to get shooting, and am happy to offer tips. However I don't see any point in divulging information on my best selling clips, what niches I do well out of and my financial info. If I were to share this info it can just make it even harder to compete in an already very competitive market. Some info is just not worth sharing.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock - Where are we going?
« on: March 20, 2018, 14:03 »
I just did a quick image search of New Chums beach, New Zealand. The photos that come up with all due respect are an embarrassment. Surely no human can be doing QC because they have absolutely NCV and also no technical or creative merit. It SS were to cull the crap out of their system surely they'd go back to well below 100 million images. Are these agencies in a stupid race to one billion images? They're shooting themselves in the foot allowing amateur snappy snaps onto the site.

This charade will struggle to get off the ground. The website looks amateur at best, and let's face it, a stock library is defined by the quality of its website to a large extent

Instagram is good for viewing an endless stream of exceptional photos if you follow the right people. For that reason I find it useful, it's inspirational

You could have teamed up with the infamous 'Dollar Photo Club', in only they weren't defunct.
