Dreamstime.com / Re: Acceptance %? What they want?
« on: February 21, 2019, 20:42 »
I have 5351 images on DT, and only had 11 rejections total.  All those rejections were being "to close to an already submitted image," and I think those were actually images that were accidentally submitted twice...

However, even with over 5000 images on DT, I have only had 5351 downloads for a total revenue of $318.26.

If you really have that high a reject rate, then you need to take a close look at what you are doing.  Regardless though, DT is not where your money is likely to come from...

5351 downloads may have earned you $3182.60 but $318.26 is not really possible.

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Beginning of the End for Stock?

Stock is already dead, everyone is doing it for peanuts on the side of their 9-5 emplyment in the real world

Speak for yourself.
I speak for everyone including those in denial

Adobe Stock / Re: My biggest sale!
« on: February 12, 2019, 05:00 »
Today got this great sale; 'Your commission, $396.00'. Um wow, thank you very much Adobe!!! Non exclusive photo. I think this image just sold its soul!  ;D
Sounds like dream for me  :)
On what kind of image was the sale made?
Seagull in flight at sunset

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy which photos sells best?

Seagull shots are probably the best selling on Alamy

Is anyone familiar with the infamous Getty image infringement extortion letters?

Sales wise, Getty has gone from decent four figure advertising sales just a few years ago, down to pennies in the present day. They'll need to reinvent fast or they'll continue on their steep decline.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Motion Array?

Do not sell footage on Motion Array unless you want to do damage to the industry and ultimately yourself. Bottom scraping sites like this should be avoided at all costs.

VideoBlocks / Re: Sales dropped down by 90% on storyblocks

Photos are dead everywhere, so I don't think you can expect much from photo sales on video platforms such as Storyblocks and Pond5

Did the reality of $79 prices kicked in? No wonder they had sales before if they were dumping the whole industry...
It sucks
Worked so hard to upload to them for years

Give them the benefit of the doubt until end 2019. Similar for me although I just got a rare 4K sale. Slightly down on last year with more clips

General Stock Discussion / Re: Alamy "good news"!

Greedy. What do they need the extra 10% for? So they can hire some QC staff to finally start letting any old crap onto the site?

General Stock Discussion / Re: November Sales
« on: December 02, 2018, 20:51 »
Well, my record of 18 months with a higher earning than the same month in the previous year was lost this month. At least the pressure is off! But still a pretty reasonable month all told:

Full details as always at my blog: https://www.backyardsilver.com/2018/12/stock-photography-earnings-in-november-2018/

Steve

Good looking stats well done, and congratulations you've just encouraged 1000 more newbies to go for it

General Stock Discussion / Re: November Sales
« on: December 02, 2018, 20:49 »
for starters the month is barely more than 2/3 done. also how can things be the same and down 60%? It seems about the same as Oct for me except a few more big sales at Alamy, but the obese female has not sung yet so I don't really know. So, a lot less than during the good years (2011 - 2015) but things haven't fallen off any new cliffs.

Totally ridiculous to start this topic until the month is done.

General - Stock Video / Re: "Crossroads" on Shutterstock
« on: November 24, 2018, 17:44 »

Sorry Shelma,
Wrong assumption.
If you contribute footage, you would never, ever want to contribute still images as well

Really? Seems like there are a ton of people here who started out with images, then added video to their ports.
Such as myself and my video port is now 20 times bigger than my photo port. Just another conspiracy.  The Crossroads appearing at the top of every search is another conspiracy. They only have 280 clips in total, 4K RED camera, production quality, so no surprise they make it to the top

Shutterstock.com / Re: Lucky day on shutterstock
« on: November 14, 2018, 23:39 »
yesterday was a lucky day for me in shutterstock, I opened my account and found that i had sold 12 videos and made 470$ which is never happened before. my best day was that I sold 4 videos and made 120$.
I'm really happy but at the same time worried, because I believe I've heard that there are members who had their accounts suspended for lucky days like this, so is something i have to worry about ?

That is indeed an epic day and congratulations. However my advice would be, if you want more days like this, don't go broadcasting results that will have your direct competition frothing at the bit. You're shooting yourself in the foot. Better off telling your family and friends. And do not worry, SS will never suspend any account that is making them and their shareholders lots of money. Suspended accounts happen for valid reasons only

Wow, this is a cheerful, supportive group. I'd forgotten why I don't come here very often. Maybe people should get together and create a forum just for microstock. Oh...wait....

OP, congrats. I remember that day about 12.5 years ago for me. Keep it up and don't worry about the people who apparently have plenty of free time on their hands and nothing better to do than tear people down.

Now, excuse me, I need to get back to creating images.

It may seem like a negative response, and getting a first sale is a big deal. However 0.25 cents is of no use to anyone. If newbies and photo enthusiasts jump on board and can find the motivation to shoot for this sort of return then SS and Alamy will both end up over supplied with 200 million images. And yes we're already there, so newbie photographers are either very optimistic and well funded, or they simply live in a cloud of delusion. A photo sale of over 50 USD may be worth getting excited about.

Adobe Stock / Re: Important Fotolia Announcement
« on: November 05, 2018, 17:07 »
I hope there's going to be some serious development of the Adobe stock site. At the moment I think the Fotolia site is far superior to the very simplistic Adobe site. Fotolia has a lot of features I like a lot, whereas Adobe stock is boring to use and has almost no useful features.

98
If the image already sells well for you, don't do it.

If the image doesn't sell well for you and is a subject that won't sell regularly, do it!

DepositPhotos / Re: almost 1.000 clips, 0, its dead?
« on: November 02, 2018, 05:51 »
If you uploaded these to Depositphotos that is the problem. Depositphotos is not a credible video seller

This is certainly suspect and not the way this sort of problem should come to our attention.
