Computer Hardware / Re: Best monitor for stock photography ?

With EISO you can not go much wrong...

trevarthan, histogram looks quite ok for me, and your photos as well, concerning quality. I think the problem is somewhere else. Example - you have a lots of photos of a bridge, but who is interested in that? I mean, what did you want to tell with those photos? If you photograph a famous bridge on a nice light it's something different, or if you've seen interesting detail on a bridge, or interesting reflection, etc, etc...

JPSDK, can you maybe share that action? :) I still didn't figure it out completely...

The very next moment when I start thinking that I got it finally, and got a few batches accepted, I get my next batch 100% rejected  :D

Doing highlights and shadows all the way is a trick I first heard from photographer Serge Ramelli. I just found out that it might be ok as a starting point, but it is too extreme for most of my photos. The philosophy is ok, I guess, but that is just the starting point.

Concerning SS - that's the queston of what kind of photos will sale - I had a lots of photos with completely good light, soft shadows, everything ok, even though I got rejections with light problems. Then I've found out it is not really light, but the colors.

For example, the cloudy sky should give the perfect light - but that is not good enough for SS. If the histogram is a bit on the dark side - and there are lack of colors on the photo - not good.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Uploading by DeepMeta not working?
« on: September 03, 2014, 04:09 »
Thanx a lot! That will make the tool more usable...

I would only like to have a functionality of drag/drop images to Deepmeta.

I'm using my own tool for keywording (You can take a look here or download it: http://stockphototagger.sourceforge.net). From my tool I can see which images are already tagged and completed by just looking at the thumbnail - which has all the information, so for me would be much easier just to select finished images and drag and drop them to deepmeta.

I've just tried it yesterday (instead of painful uploading through iStock web site) and found out that upload is very very slow - goes like 1Mb/min. Is it normal? It is still better than uploading one by one on the website, but...

Actually you do not get much with Deepmeta - I still can not copy metadata from one photo to another, still have to go through all the keywords and check the ones that are in database... Also, there is no Drag/Drop functionality, so I can not drag the photos from explorer or other tool to Deepmeta - I have to open dialog instead.

So, actually. not very happy with the tool. If the upload is really that slow I do not see the real purpose.

Hi, I've just got 10$ for a photo, That is a hdr photo of pantheon inside, so that could not be SOD, and I'm wandering how's the commission so high.

Yesterday 6 from 6 accepted... Looks like it depends on reviewer. Must say for my rejected images that somehow deep in my mind I expected them to be rejected.

The only problem is that they are usually rejected with totally wrong reason. I think they just fill that the image is not good enough for their collection and just put any reason for it. The image can be perfectly in focus and with perfect composition and light and still something is missing.

Maybe they also know that something is wrong with the image but can not describe it :) And therefore give some arbitrary reason... But I would be perfectly fine if there is a reason like - image does not suit to our collection or something similar.

Hm, I find nearly impossible to broad my port in SS... At IS they accept everything but if some living form is on the photo without MR (as somebody said). To be honest, even though I'm pretty new here, and I have tiny port on SS, I must say that I would show only my SS portfolio to somebody - there are my best photos.

The thing is - SS is far best stock agency. The pushing of the photos to SS is probably enormous. Everybody wants to place photo there. I've seen now that the number of photos is 35 millions and a few months ago there was less than 30, if I can remember.  And now they rose the standards, that's normal to expect. With the new standards the quality of photos will be higher, and people will be still sending photos there as they only sell there.

The reasons of rejections are irrelevant - the real reason is that the photos are not the best for their collection. The photo must be ether extraordinary (if it is landscape for example) or something that they think will sale good.

Sue, so indicating that there are no releases is good enough for editorials? That will help a bit :)

I haven't sent a request for a fast review in ages. Basically because they stopped paying out those $5 for newsworthy photos...

I dont think so, I've just got 10$ for my Roland Garros images. Weird is though that SS and IS does not accept those images without property release, but DT accepts. 123RF as well... I don't know what is the situation with Alamy, just started there and I see that it is not easy to tag images - just embedding the meta-data in photos is far from enough there. And if you want to send editorial image than you must add a tons of restrictions...

Software - General / Re: FTP for upload TO ALL AGENCIES
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:29 »
Hobo,

you're right, I'm certainly not processing my photos in Linux, but have some troubles with keywording / describing / uploading. I mean, it takes a lots of time, maybe more than processing itself.

So basically, I'm doing keywording at multiple places - sometimes on linux computer, sometimes on windows etc... And for example, the app that I've made for keywording is very small, I can have it in USB stick and run it from USB. I have photos at my Dropbox account, so they are accessible everywhere as well.

Only I'm missing that kind of app for FTP...

Stickuploader looks nice, indeed... Only I need something for Linux platform, that's why I've made my multiplatform keywording solution (written in java so it works everywhere), but still do not have FTP uploader. Could try with "Wine" though...

Looks nice and simple! Exactly what I need as I've already made keywords solution for myself... Only I need it for Linux

Photography Equipment / Re: Advice on lenses
« on: March 31, 2014, 10:38 »
I've seen somebody advices buying 18-200 VR. Don't do that, that's the worst glass I've ever seen. Even my kit lens 18-105 is way better than that one.

123RF / Re: Images not getting review
« on: March 10, 2014, 08:03 »
The same here... I even forgot that I've sent my first batch to 123RF, and after a month or so, it got finally reviewed. The other problem is that I do not get any information about the review of my images by e-mail, it's a bit better with SS and IS.
