Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock sales is sinking deeply...
« on: January 26, 2015, 17:17 »
January started really slow but things heated up on these last 2 weeks.

Some strange days though, like a couple of sundays selling twice as much as monday.

It's like a fruit vendor offering free fruits... not a very smart move.

203
No way I'm handing out my portfolio forever for 2 bucks per image.
I make that every couple of months.

This is a pure crap of a deal.

Bigstock.com / Re: No more uploads for me

I gave up on them a few months ago. It's like DT, you can make a few bucks there but when you realize the work to upload and compare it with your annual return, it's really sad. Less is more - uploading only to SS and FT.

Never and this month I removed all my images because of their royalties cut.

That's one messed up agency.

Well, December was my BME in SS and FT. But Istock is going downhill.
Downloads are still there, but we only get 0.28 sales.

208
RPD crashed -30% from november and I'm getting less downloads every month.

No more uploads to IS.

The future is bright for the USD - it's rising not only against the EUR.
Not because US is doing well, but because everybody else is doing worse.

This is a very interesting interactive world currency map:

I can't imagine someone entering micro today and having to break even.
My cost per image is $ 0.00. I don't work with people and would do my travels anyway.

They are removing all the important keywords - no sense uploading there anymore.

General - Top Sites / Re: EU VAT Changes from January 2015! ALERT
« on: December 21, 2014, 17:31 »
While there are certainly good aspects in the EU, it became an instrument for financial control along with the bank-controlled US, taking away power from the countries by applying unified measures against their own people, for example open immigration policy for non-EU countries - lowering wages, increasing unemployment and rising social welfare costs for the sake of economic growth.

General - Top Sites / Re: Is DT still one of the Big 4?
« on: December 20, 2014, 07:48 »
A more updated version of the poll would be Top 3 and Low Earners.

DT is still #4 but negligible compared to the other 3.

214
I doubt Adobe will play around with the royalties anytime soon.

FT will get a greater visibility because of the Adobe brand, I expect to see a slight increase in downloads.

Shutterstock is doing very well as a company. Just stay away from it's shares.

The financial bubble will explode in 2015 and we might even see fewer sales across the board.

Apple for example is worth 40% more than the whole russian stock market - it's laughable.

216
Has anyone noticed what is happening to Shutterstock stock prices this morning?  Completely tanking, down to roughly $60 per share as opposed to $70+ at closing last night.  Analysts are attributing this drop to the Adobe/Fotolia purchase.  Obviously some view this as a major hit to SS future sales.

Sure the deal will affect shares, but overall SSTK is way overvalued as is the whole US market.
With a ridiculous P/E of nearly 100, it will likely go below U$ 20 in the given time.

SS still has room to increase it's market share with IS fading, though.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: November PP sales are being processed now
« on: December 11, 2014, 11:19 »
I don't mind if PP takes a whole month, what I care about is that subscription is not making up for the loss in PP. Number of sales is decreasing since september. They obviously lost buyers in another pointless customer relocation. Uploading there is already a frustrating experience, but with low sales I'm tempted to quit on them.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Do you believe that DT is dying?
« on: December 10, 2014, 08:12 »
DT just doesn't work for me. For example they rejected my best seller at SS and FT for being "too simple". Besides this, I got a frenzy rejection of 7 whole batches so I dropped them. I get payout at FT every month, but never reached U$ 50 in DT in a whole year. Sure the RPD is nice and maybe it still works for long time contributors because of the search, but one average day at SS is the same as the whole month for DT. It's just not money-wise uploading there.

Last month FT was ahead of IS for the first time, mostly because Istock PP is going downhill.

Lost all my hope for DT though.

Yes, sales are very low and for new contributors they're not worth the effort.

So besides getting less sales, now I have to pay 30% tax to US...

Why? Your country has no tax treaty with the US?

No...

Shutterstock.com / Re: Very poor sales in Nov!! :(
« on: November 21, 2014, 19:09 »
It's not about how much you upload anymore, it's about being better than the top images. If you can't beat them, chances are they'll be buried instantly. I used to get frustrated uploading large batches and getting very few sales, now I prefer to make a batch of 1 or 2 that I know will sell quite often. 1% of my images are responsible for more than 30% of my sales.

Really? You can guarantee that good images won't be buried in the blink of an eye? You surprise me.

If it's a high demand niche (rare these days) and a top quality image well keyworded and uploaded with good timing, I would be very surprised if it didn't sell regularly. Of course that doesn't apply to most subjects.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Are u happy with PicFair?
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:11 »
I was actively searching for new agencies, so I uploaded 5% of my port and got an average of 10 views per image, some stars and no sales. After DP and PhotoArabia scams I'm really against spreading my files everywhere.

The previews and lack of decent watermarks in Picfair is disturbing. I'm pulling down my port as it clearly seems it's not going anywhere. Nowadays I prefer to only work with the top 3. The only small agency I would consider uploading now is Pond5 despite the low sales.
